  • In this video I walk through the process of building simple 5 over 5 frame deep boxes very cheaply. These work great to get comb drawn out fast and for over wintering honeybee colonies.
    Homemade 5 Frame Box Measurements
    Bottom Hive Box Sides 10½” x 19¼”
    Bottom Hive Box Ends 9½” x 7⅝”
    Bottom Board (Advantech) 8½” x 19¼”
    Handle Ends 2” x 8½”
    Super Hive Box Sides 9½” x 19¼”
    Super Hive Box Ends 8⅝” x 7⅝”
    Migratory Tops (Advantech) 8½” x 23”

    Great looking boxes Johnny. For me I would skip the nailing the bottom on, just to be able to clean out easier. Thanks for the measurements and all.

      Thanks Don!!! Not sure yet how many I'll get out of the plywood. Depends on how many mistakes I make. Lol.

    Hi👋Johnny, I really like the 5 over 5's. I want one of those draw-saw tables.

    Great video Johnny, I just built some 5 frame supers yesterday to make comb in. Those girls sure like to go up instead of horizontally. Take care buddy and God bless!

      Thank you, Tim! I agree, seems they'd rather go up than out. God bless you, brother!

      @@TennesseeMountainBees I'd get after it... especially if the season is kicking off good for you. It's great to hear things are going so well. God bless Johnny.

    Take a look on the back side of your chop saw fence. You may see some allen screws thatll allow you to straighten that fence.

      Thanks Phillip. I'd looked before but checked again after your suggestion. The fence on the saw is made as one piece that will not flex. After your suggestion I tried the Allen bolts but they only hold it in place. Thanks again!

    Watch steveos outdoor world
    Steve down in Florida producing nuc boxes for a couple dollars.
    I’ve been making them like him for years stupid cheap stupid easy way less time than your investment.
    Don’t get me wrong I love what you have done and did the same thing before I had to get cheaper to keep growing as quickly as I wanted.
    Thanks for sharing!

    What were the cuts done at Lowe's?🙂

    • @TennesseeMountainBees
      @TennesseeMountainBees  Год назад +2

      I had them cut the plywood into strips the width of the boxes. My table saw is too small to rip the 4x8 sheets. Thanks so much for watching and inquiring!

    One Question, does gluing the painted corners reduce the glue's holding strength?

    • @TennesseeMountainBees
      @TennesseeMountainBees  Год назад +2

      Great question! I wondered the same thing and would guess the glue would hold better without the paint. But I'd rather have the added benefit of weather proofing the vulnerable ends and let the staples take up the slack. They should hold good enough for box weight. Thanks so much for watching and inquiring!
