    As a steam locomotive crew member, I can tell you right now, this was staged. They were slowing down and speeding up on purpose. A steam locomotive wont lose speed that quickly on a failed stoker because whatever is still burning is making a sufficient amount of pressure. The injector issue, no big deal because the engineer has another injector on his side.

    Surely the faster loco would eventually make headway and hold that? Watch a Pendolino v a 350 leave Euston, the 350 will take an initial lead, then will get overtaken comfortably by the much faster Pendolino. There won't be any tooing or frowing unless one of them comes under a signal check.

    Stokers are not "Automatic"!; every steam locomotive has 2 forms of boiler feeding.

    • @renegadeoflife87
      @renegadeoflife87 3 года назад +1

      Some engines were fitted with mechanical stokers, which would move the bulk of the coal required by the fire and were much easier on the fireman's back as it was only necessary to manually fire the corners and fill in any holes. It was common practice to fit them after the 1920s when the screw feed and steam jet table system was perfected.
      And every boiler larger than a tabletop model should have at least 2 methods of adding water, sometimes 3 or more.

      Hi, The hats shown are mostly versions of the standard Victorian Railways drivers cap from the steam days. Finding them can be a bit difficult. Occasionally they appear on ebay, or you could try contacting Steamrail who are the preservation group for a lot of the mainline steam locos in Victoria. They have a drivers cap listed on their souvenirs page but I dont know exactly what that one looks like. Go to steamrail.com.au and they should be able to assist a bit more.
