Fun fact: in Greece we read odyssey at its original form ( Ancient Greek ) and we translate it to our language right now :)
Thats so cool!!
Spellbound its is quite difficult though!
we do it in italian schools too (from ancient greek into italian, obv)
Καθαρεύουσα, όχι αρχαία...

I can’t describe how lovely it is to sit and watch you talk about things you love - your voice is so calming too!
Izzy Davy her voice is really calming! Wow, I’ve never realised that!
I loved this video!! I love hearing people talk about their favorite books and you just spoke so nicely about them. I definitely feel encouraged to jump back into reading now - thank you!
i personally love reading about gods and goddesses but i always feel like i’m a wierdo for reading books that u read in english haha glad i’m not alone💗😂
Tania Pena you should read Percy Jackson
so many books i need to add to my tbr - thank you so so much, i'm so excited
Yay! OMG, so exciting :D I've been waiting since your bookshelf tour as well!
Great list of books! I love every single one of those too! (Also I completely recommend The Aeneid, it’s amazing and dramatic which I love)
YESS was so happy to see Voltaire show up in this ✨
I have been waiting for this since your bookshelf tour! I never clicked a video so fast
me too! Can't wait to watch this vid!
I've discovered a lot of great classics because of you
12:09 "you're the fathers child" lol. i have adhd and dyslexia so i get my sentences all muddled like this all the time. i love your energy in videos !!!
Yaaaasss, the Iliad! I love that poem so much 😍😢
Your videos make me want to read more, especially all of the classics that I have a growing stack of
Dude, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf is also my favourite play. SO GOOD, on stage especially. Watching this really made me want to read classics. Especially Candide and maybe the Illiad.. :D
Books are amazing, I always love to find people passionate about as me
Hello! You’re so beautiful also you remind me a lot of Emma Watson. Your videos are the best and I watch you so much thank you!
Definitely going to be asking for all these classics and just every book in this video for my birthday! Get myself ready for second year and just life 💛
yaaaaaas classics will never fail you
already got myself Iliad and Metamorphoses 💛
Love you ems💗
Roald dahl is definitely one of the best childrens authors he literally birthed my love for reading and if I ever just can’t get myself to read I still always go back to him
Bloody brilliant video!
I gotta get my post its! thanks for the fab recs!
Please make a book club on RUclips! Also loving this video 😊
Love your suggestions!! I ordered the Iliad and the Odyssey... very excited to read it xx lots of love from Antwerp! Can you read Dutch by the way? :)
I’m in love with you and your accent ohmygod💕
Hi Emma. Great channel and choice of fav books. What about just your top novels/genre?
Interesting choices Emma :) You should do a video with feminist recommendations if you have any!
I'm planning to do a proper series on feminism and i'd do a dedicated video on recommended reading!
My goodness ! I love Montaigne, Voltaire and Homer but Nancy Mitford ! What treasure troves that woman's works are. I've read The Sun King, Madame de Pompadour, Frederick the Great and Voltaire in Love. Mitford was one of those rare authors who could not only bring the past back to life but who could also make you to love the people in it. Her fiction is excellent too imo. I also own Mary S Lovell's 'The Mitford Girls'. I'll push it up a little bit in my tbr. You have a new subscriber.
Hoe leuk ik het vind da gij dus ook Vlaams verstaat! Obsessed with your channel! Greetings from Leuven ;)
Ugh, I love your mind.
It took me a while to learn how to read and it always made me feel bad and honestly roald dahl’s (probably spelt wrong😐) books were the best things to motivate me to learn and I’ve still got two huge books that consist of the majority of what he wrote and I WILL be giving them to my kids one day. I could talk about books for bloomin ages🙌🏻
yes loveeeeee
hi, Emma, could you make a video on your favorite films, please
(may have already filmed this shhh don’t tell anyone)
Emma Angeline cant wait !
Ran a search for The Female Quixote and found myself here again!
Don Quixote might be my favorite (hard to restrict yourself to one right?), hope you read it one day and do a video.
Not a criticism - you have an old soul.
And a 17th century one!
Or a BC soul.
Loved the Iliad myself
Stay safe, and thanks for the lovely video.
i'm reading the illiad now. I love it. have you seen the movie troy
I have the attention span of a goldfish which makes it hard for me to read :( but seeing your love for books really makes me want to!!
trust me finding the right book makes it so much easier!!
Need an updated version!!!
My favourites are:
Diary of A Young Girl
Vicarage Family
Nefertiti
Harry potter (All except cursed child)
Christmas carol
Pollyanna
Percy Jackson books
And I love Greek Mythology books a lot
HI Emma, would love to get more of your thoughts on The Female Quixote (Kwicksoht). Do you have anything available online? An essay or the like?
As a Norwegian book lover im amazed how propper you said Roald Dahl`s name
Hi emma,,i think taking the book in hand while reviewing it makes the video much worth,,good luck
Thank u for converting me to classics 😉
YAAAAAAS
Emma, Marriage A History sounded interesting!! Will have to check it out. By the way do you have a goodreads account? Would love to follow.
Gap Yah!
kind of funny to see her waving her copy of the odyssey around in this video knowing that she's lost it
My favourite book has to be a clockwork orange, it’s just genius! I love how twisted it is but the language is somewhat childish and comical? It’s great! Also love The Catcher in the Rye, Animal Farm and Revolutionary Road! I’m very generic hahaha
I've never read the clockwork orange (or seen Kubrick's adaptation) so you've defo encouraged me to, ALSO LOL I READ ANIMAL FARM IN LIKE YEAR 7 BECAUSE I THOUGHT I WAS BABE
I loved your favourite films list. Was very happy to see that you are very enthusiastic about books! Am very surprised to find out that you're (partly) belgian?! give me a moment, I need to bingewatch your videos now. thanks okay bye
oooh my favourite play is A streetcar named desire. I should reread that again actually.
top 4 referenced works in English Language: The Bible, Mythology, Shakespeare, and Alice in Wonderland.
Hi Emma can you review one of my books... that would be awesome thanks
Voltaire bragged that the philosophes had never inspired violence, then the French Revolution happened. D'oh!
something about her kinda reminds me of emma watson
How were you allowed to choose history at uni if you didn’t study it at A Level??
Ben she studies comparative literature not history
ohh ok thought she did something history related, thanks
from Philippines, this books are great
do you have goodreads?
Emma for president
you have cats ?
You look like Emma Watson
Marriage is a symbol of wealth and completely idiotic in my opinion
