This is the best advice I've ever read for inshore fishing. I use an equivalent medium light fast action Pro Green model with a Stradic 2500 Ci4+ on 10lb PowerPro superslick, 20lb fluro leader for stripers in the Northeast. Easily handles 30 inch fish, even in heavy current. Most people don't understand how much pressure you can put on a fish with these seemingling very light rods and a highly adjustable 20lb drag.
I know this video is older but I just saw it on my suggestions. I use the same rod (e6x inshore) but in a 7' 6" medium fast paired with the new Stradic fl 4000. I catch slot size Snook and even up to 36"-40" in Sebastian Inlet with it. I use 20# power pro with 40# fluorocarbon leader and its a great set up.
Would you recommend a medium or a medium heavy size spinning rod for tackle under 3 ounces for red snapper, smaller tuna, mahi, and also bay fishing for redfish and more. I think what I’m getting at is a good all around rod size for inshore/bay fishing.
Any chance you guys have used the new GCX line? Im confused as you say you have the 842S model which is the medium model but you give the specs for the medium light. You must not have weeds in your area. My spot is weedy and I Texas rig my soft plastics mostly and a moderate fast action wouldn't work. The medium heavy seems to be the ticket.
Any recommendations on a length for wade fishing? I am torn between getting a new 7 ft or 7’6.. I like the added length for distance casting when wading but the additional length makes working artificials a little more difficult / fatiguing.. what do you think? Thanks
I prefer the 7’. Landing fish with a 7’6” is a pain. Moving slow can overcome the distance equation or setting up in the right area and letting the fish come to you with the tide.

Now I didn’t do anything fancy because I’m a simple guy but the guides are still going strong and it’s easily been three years. I remember wondering if the thread would hold up to a quality fish.
I actually use Abu Garcia Veritas casting rods. I have 1 6'10" Medium Light Fast, and I also use the 7' medium fast action. I haven't found a saltwater action rod that I love yet. I feel that the moderate fast action makes me work harder when working baits. Since i have all but abandoned the spinning reel i loose way less fish. Maybe that's due to me growing up using baitcasters for 99% of my fishing. But as always great videos Nick!
I personally prefer to use a baitcaster as well. I use a variation of a NRX 842C JWR because of the action. It’s casting version is a bit stiff then the spinning version. It’s interesting to see the preferred differences. Thanks for watching, Ryan.

Just wondering what your thoughts are on the Shimano Teramar Southeast Spinning Rods, and if you would recommend a 7.5 foot or a 7 foot for inshore fishing? Thanks.
I have the Shimano Teramar 7'4" (Shimano TMS-F74M Teramar Inshore Southeast Spinning Rod), medium light 6-15 lb. Have Stradic 4000FI on but, have used the 3000FI also. I like the 4000FI since it balances also with the vintage glass Fenwick Rods I use, PLS70 PLS76 which the Teramar is closest to that action I have found. I grew up Gulf Coast (Sarasota) and knew every Pass, Inlet, Bay, Brackish river, etc. at "Guide Level" (family owned 7 marina's so I had first canoe at 5, canoeing & little Skiff & Shoreline/extensive wading, caught 1,000's of Snook, Redfish, Trout, Largemouth Bass (Yes in Brackish I have caught 5.25 lb Bass & 8 lb. Snook (seen 40 lber's & 100 lb. Tarpon) within a few hundred feet of each other). The Teramar is closest I have found with Topwater (vintage Dalton Specials for bass and Zara Spook for Snook) plugs that can mimic the Vintage Glass Fenwicks I grew up on (late 1960's-1970's). Teramar also works perfect for Crank Baits, Spinner baits, Jigs, spoons. Also, at $120 have never seen a rod (St Croix, Loomis) that can touch it for value. I am in no way saying what this video is showing that the G. Loomis or St. Croix someone may not prefer or value as the better rod....but I love the feel/action of the "T Glass" blended into the rod for that glass feel.
I bought the stradic FL 3000 last year. I absolutely love it. I mostly use it in the surf. As you know the surf is a pretty rough environment. However, after watching your videos I think I might move it to the kayak as well. I have experienced the roller noise. A good cleaning, and a little Lube it went away. I wonder why you went with the 2500? The 3000 is the same weight, and the same physical size. It already has the upgraded drags, and a little more line capacity. I have a paired with a custom Phoenix rod. 8 foot medium light
The roller issue actually went away on two of the reels which was pretty interesting to see. I like to use the 2500 for a few reasons. The first is it fits 150 yards of 15 lb. PowerPro perfect without the need to add backing. The second is I’m not a fan of the power handle and it gets in the way when throwing small soft plastics, jerk baits, and Topwater lures all day.
@@NavarreKayakFishing that makes sense. I'm not a big fan of my handle. I use 20 lb braid, so that extra line capacity make sense for me. I hope they come out with a ci-4 plus FL, at that point I might get a 2500 for finessing some crabs/small plastics!

Tom, if you’re pitching live bait I will assume you’re using a circle hook. You’re going to need a rod with enough tip to control the mullet. If the tip is to fast you will have a hard time casting and sling mullet off of the hook. Personally I would use something similar to the. E6X 843S

The 843 has plenty of backbone. Most people rely on the tip of the rod far more then they should while fighting a fish. You should be able to feel pressure on your wrist if you’re applying pressure correctly. If you’re not anchored in the kayak or pedaling backwards it won’t matter how much backbone you have. The fish will just pull you into the dock.
Man I made the same mistake with medium or medium heavy rods. I keep looking at med/light rods and kick myself for putting the med/light rod back that the old man picked out for my 3000 BG. Do you troll offshore with the same rods?
It will pair great with the majority of medium action rods. The only difference between the 2500 and 3000 is the spool size, drag washers, and handle. It’s the same frame.
@@NavarreKayakFishing I loved this video. Extremely informative and all correct. I have a Stradic 2500 ci4+ and use it on a couple rods. One of which is the 9 foot G Loomis E6X Steelhead 1084-2S STR medium fast. Use it for salmon, steelhead and striper with usually 10 lbs copolymer fishing line and have had zero issues landing anything and not over tiring them. The one thing I wanted to add to your comment about the 2500 vs the 3000 is that the spools are interchangeable. Also getting carbontex carbon fiber drag washers instead of the felt washers makes a nice difference and supposedly adds 20% more drag power. So the 20 lbs drag is then 24 lbs. I'm looking for a rod that will do double-duty as an inshore rod but also for casting far off a jetty. I was thinking the 7' 11' (M-H) new Mojo inshore but the Loomis E6X looks like a contender as well. I'm fish the SF Bay area (halibut, striper, rock fish etc). Would the Mojo be a better fit or would E6X?
@@riccardocarbo2479 just got an E6X and it's the best rod I've ever had. Replaced my st croix that had two eyes break off within a year, despite washing it off with freshwater after every trip. Never had that happen to a fishing rod in my life until I bought a st croix. G loomis makes everything in america, unlike st croix who moved most of it to Mexico.
20 lb braid will cast better then the 30lb braid. If you plan to throw lures with it I would lean towards 20 but if you’re going to use it for live bait I would go with 30.

St. Croix Mojo is made in mexico and is garbage. Either upgrade to the St. Croix Avid (made in usa) or go with G Loomis (also made in usa).

7’ makes it easier to land fish in the kayak/boat. 7’6” is nice if you’re wade fishing and need a little more distance.
