This is a gorgeous song! There was so many great tunes written in 20's-30's. Victor Young did a lot of good stuff in addition to conducting an orchestra for RCA Victor. This is a very nice rendition. I'm 58 - I remember my parents having 10"LP's in their collection - as well as lots of 78's from the 40's and of course regular LP's. We were brought up appreciating a lot of good music. I remember when stereophonic sound was introduced - we went from HiFi to Stereo. I really feel old.
Interesting as this has become an often-played jazz standard and I had been told by some musicians it was actually a waltz...whereas for the past two generations-plus, jazzers play it in 4/4 time...
I had wanted to know the name of this tune and was searching for it via the internet. It's a haunting tune reminiscent of a bygone romantic era. This piece stirs the heart and touches the soul.
There were two unanswered questions from old movies that have sort of haunted me for a long time. One was this song, from the dance scene in "The Mummy" - so glad to have found it, especially this version, which, as has been pointed out, is close to the orchestration from the film. Thank you so much for posting this. The other, which thankfully has also been answered at long last is: who is the sweet-faced maid of nephew Fred in the 1951 version of "A Christmas Carol" ('Scrooge' in its UK title) - and the answer is Theresa Derrington. A researcher found out and now her credit has been added to the IMDb listing for the film. Whenever we get the answer to long-standing questions, it's like a gift!
@knibscratch Yes, please, I hope you enjoy it. Feel free to share anything you like, it would be a great honor for me were you to do so. Regards, david
Thank you Mr Hertzberg. You seem quite knowleadgable about this, I heard a long.long, time ago another version of this feat. a flutist, in jazz form, been looking for years, thought Herbie Mann, then Hubert Laws, but NO...Any ideas????
