It is possible that Bourgault will turn out to be a better player than Johnston but highly, highly unlikely. Barring injuries, never gonna happen. It's not like Bourgault is lighting it up in Bako. I would really like to see him be a big part of the OIlers future, but the facts are Dallas nailed this one. He was on their radar early on, they got the benefit to see 3 of the U-18 games in their practice rink, and they did all the follow up calls to his past coaches. They were not lost just because the normal data was not available. They traded down in the draft because they knew he would be available, not because they weren't that high on him. They definitely wanted him. This gave them an extra 2nd round pick which let them get both Stankoven and Grushnikov, the latter which allowed them to get Tanev. Go Oilers, but you gotta hand this one to Dallas for an incredible scouting job.

Wyatt Johnson also got the opportunity to play. Bourgault will never get a chance in a premium roll the way the Oilers deploy their rookies.
