    Binding Vows are basically the core component of Jujutsu. There is also a theory that they are the reason cursed techniques exist. Think about it like this, how did inherited cursed techniques come to be? Maybe the clan heads made a binding vow to pass down their techniques to their bloodline. Anyways, that's just speculation. Binding vows are extremely important for a sorcerer in numerous ways. It's like equivalent exchange. To keep the balance in the world.
    Your videos are pretty accurate, by the way. Unlike a lot of other JJK channels, you actually give out the information in a understandable and spoiler-free way.

    • @SneakNationCEO
      @SneakNationCEO 9 месяцев назад +5

      Pretty fun to think about. But that wouldn't explain why not all members of the clan exhibit their inherited techniques, right? Like Naobito and Naoya with the Ten Shadows? It seems to me that the inheritance follows normal rules of genetics.
      You can argue that Gege would never give a single damn about science in a fictional story, but to me this seems pretty similar to the Kekkei Genkai from Naruto.

      or have body so strong that even one of the three strongest clans cant even keep up to you but you have no cursed energy.
      so yeah, its based on how much you sacrifice and on my head canon, cursed energy output beacuse like, if you we can get 1000 times more fragile for 1000 times more strength, then i would just do that binding vow mili second before attacking the enemy so my attacks are gonna get multiplied like i hit 250 black flashes at once. in sukuna vs gojo, they made few binding vows that im not gonna say beacuse of the spoilers but they gave a lot more things than the others but also took a lot of energy from them.

A binding vow like that wouldn't be sustainable too much risk very little benefit. With Mahito's transfigured humans it doesn't matter, they're expendable to him. Imagine that you binding vow yourself to not do regular day bad habits like smocking cigars and drinking booze for riskier discipline. You can do those bad things for the specific time like you can only do those things on Friday or something. In exchange for minor yet effective power-ups! I wonder if you can adjust the penalty to yourselves in order to know what will happen to you if you break it. Like the example I gave before, you drink booze or smoke cigars on times that is not in friday or the time you binding vow yourself to allow you to do those things. You get penalized for example, by getting severe blood coughing in the guts for a certain amount of time or something you put into it. And I wish that when even though you penalized yourselves by the binding vow. The vow is still there with you for a longer time for longer self discipline or punishment or something. Hope something like this happens in jjk!

    Was the binding vow between Yuji and Sukana broken in the Shibuya arc? Because Sukana is out for ages and kills thousands of people. But after all the fights Yuji says to Choso that he feels basically fine; and he thinks that it’s because of Sukana getting stronger (eating more fingers). • @svenjra
      @svenjra 8 месяцев назад +6

      Not likely. Breaking a binding vow of any kind results in some form of punishment or reprisal, depending on the nature of the pact, kinda like how irl contracts work. You breach the agreed contract, you get some backlash.
      Breaking a selfmade vow usually just means your punishment is loosing the benefits of the vow. However, Miwa's vow is a one-time done deal of an enhanced sword swing, she can not lose the benefits since she already expended it but that doesn't mean she can go back on her terms.
      She's forced to comply to her self-imposed terms, and while she can in theory just ignore it and use a sword anyway, since she cannot lose the benefits of her pact then her cursed energy would just punish her some other way for breaching contract.

      She should have made that binding vow on a spear or something she didn't spend her life trying to master. Sure, she's more skilled with a sword, but picking something she's not as proficient with is therefore riskier, so it should have a greater effect (wouldn't have mattered against Kenjaku, but she was going to make a binding vow regardless to try to be useful/get revenge, etc). You can compare it with Naobito (the old man Zenin) who revealed his frame rate technique in both manga and anime.
      Btw, there was no old lady voice in S1 since the studio used voice actors of other characters for the narrative explanations (for example, the flashback about Death Paintings was narrated by Geto's voice actor).

      - Creating a mechanic within your story to justify characters halting the progress of a fight to stop and explain abilities, doesn't change the fact that the act of doing so is still clunky storytelling. Breaking up the pace of fights to explain the mechanics of abilities reads as an excuse to not need to explain things before they become relevant in your story. A general rule of thumb in storytelling is to establish the crucial elements of a conflict that may lead to its resolution before they become immediately relevant, and failure to do so is often a flaw in writing, with exceptions of course
      - Many situations where characters explain their ability don't appear to have a substantial impact on their performance in the fight in a way that necessitates a magic story mechanic to boost their capabilities by explaining it. For instance, Boogie Woogie's effectiveness lies largely in the war of information, and it becomes effective against an opponent regardless of what he tells them if he doesn't tell them everything about how it works. And it's impossible to judge specifically in what ways his technique is improved by him explaining it. It's vague enough that you only accept the character explaining his power because the story justifies it with a mechanic
      - Without a substantial change in a sorcerer's performance after explaining their technique, the act of explaining your technique in favor of a buff doesn't appear to be worth the advantage of your opponent not knowing how your ability works, which might explain why tons of sorcerers don't bother to utilize the mechanic. The inversion Sorcerer for instance wouldn't benefit from explaining his technique and neither would a lot of other sorcerers
      Overall, it's a plot device that serves to justify the writer using the same kind of writing crutch that other shonen writers use without substantiating it enough to justify its existence within the story as a whole

    I think BVs are an interesting concept due to how they interact with the world. "Revealing ones hand" likely doesn't just make your technique more powerful by itself, but it also forces your opponent to now think about how you would use your technique at any given point. The best example I can think of here is how Hanami was forced to re-think the fight after Todo explained Boogie Woogie. Now she had to think about when he would swap and when he would fake it out. What kinds of things he can swap etc etc, which can easily lead you to overthink and make a mistake.
    Nanamis Overtime technically increases his risk of going into overtime at work, since there could be scenarios where those missing % during his worktime could be enough to finish a fight before he has to go into Overtime, while the latter part of it allows him to get off the clock at work quicker once he is in overtime. That just perfectly encapsulates his personality of hating overtime, but still being a diligent worker.

      Assuming the binding vow wasn't something as long term as say, "I'll never do something that is really important to me again" *cough* Miwa *cough* then yes. It's all about the wording. If one of the conditions is making a vow to never do something in exchange for a benefit, then you can break the vow, lose the benefit, and remake it later since you lost the benefit. In Miwa's case, she said that if she didn't kill Geto with that one swing, she'd never swing a sword again, and since she didn't, the condition of not swinging a sword stays in effect. Since she already used the benefit of the vow, if she breaks it, some kind of bad thing will happen since she is breaking her conditions that she set.
