Sifu, I have a selfish request. Before I ask I need to give a little background. My name is John and have loved martial arts since taking karate in the 1970s. I dreamed of also learning kung fu but there were no schools in my area. I am now 61 years old. In the 1990s I took up tai chi and studying under masters like Dr Yang Jwing Ming and William C C Chen. In the early 2000s I taught tai chi for about five years. Then my parents became ill with Alzheimer’s and I needed to spend the next five years taking care of them. During this period my health declined severely due to the extreme demands of being a primary caregiver. In the attempt to regain my health I have found that learning the kung fu forms I wanted to learn as a child are now available online and offer the best exercise for getting stronger in both body and mind. I’ve been been learning Hung Gar with the help of videos like those of David Lee. Hung Gar is the style that seems to give me the most strength in my recovery process. However, videosare the only ones that show the actual breathing and dynamic tension aspects of the art, without which the movements are not nearly as effective in strength building.

OK, sorry wasn’t able to complete my request. Gave you my sob story about needing to learn more. Could you please make more videos regarding breathing and dynamic tension aspects of this form. It would really help me.

  • @jpinternalmartialarts3266

Again, I know it is a huge request but your videos are the only ones that show the actual breathing and dynamic tension aspects of the form which I would really appreciate learning as I would imagine many other students would. It would be a great contribution to the entire martial arts community.

This was a great tutorial. I was taught an incorrect version so was thrilled to come across this tutorial on the intro. Will you be finishing the form? I would love to see your explanation of the rest of it.

Alright took a couple weeks going bit by bit but got it! Whole thing is memorized. Still have a long way to go on getting everything sharp though. That second half is intense. Feels good though. For years I have wanted to learn hung gar and now I feel like I have an inkling of what it's all about. Thanks again sifu. Amituofo!

@@naamkuenkungfu thanks I'm planning on it. The only thing I'm confused on is the speed at which it should be done. Like when I should be fast and slow, or light and heavy. I've watched other videos of people but everyone does it a little different and blazes through it. Different speeds exist in Karate when practicing kata so I can kinda feel it out so I guess I'll keep doing that maybe. Let the form tell me when I need power and speed and when not.
