► Prince Philip was officially born as a Prince of Greece and Denmark in 1921.
He came to the UK to study in Scotland and, after leaving school at 18, he joined the Royal Navy - enrolling at the Naval College in Dartmouth.
This was where he first met Princess Elizabeth.
He loved the Navy, served in world war two and was mentioned in dispatches - but once Elizabeth became Queen, his became a different life.

Prince Philip's life of service should remind everyone of the huge, tangible power for peace and stability the British monarchy is for everyone in Britain, the commonwealth and for the world. If there are many reasons England, Wales, Scotland, Canada and Australia, have had no civil war since Culloden in 1746, having a constitutional monarchy is an important one. In the 19th & 20th centuries the U.S.A, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Greece suffered in various ways civil wars, political storms, and dictatorships. This shows what can go wrong in the absence of a head of state which is above politics, which opposes illegal dictatorship and helps keep the peace.
Prince Philip could be tactless, and he had his failings as a father. Whatever mistakes he and his family have made, let us be grateful for the service he gave, and the difference the monarchy makes for the better, in everybody's lives.

I think Philip is also good but monarchies aren’t always good. The king of Greece ruined the country and that’s why most sensible Greeks would despise the monarchy because of how terrible they usually are. The British monarchy has ceremonial roles as you probably know so they have no real power. Britain hasn’t had civil war for many factors not just because of powerless monarchs.
