Manhattan Beach: A Sense of Freedom, a Taste of Reality

  • Manhattan Beach is one of the several cities along the Marvin Braude Bike Trail. It's this path, locally referred to as The Strand, that can be seen as emblematic of the California Coastal Trail when completed: miles of uninterrupted path (in this case, 22 miles), a stack of communities, each with their own coastal vibe, and always within sight, sound, and smell of the ocean.
"Because it's in the process of coming together, it will no longer be just a day walk," explains Robin Kirk of the Manhattan Beach Woman's Club in the above video. "You can go from town to town and actually see more than on just on a morning walk. The importance of having the long distance is an entirely different experience. And there's a sense of freedom to putting a pack on your back and, just on your own two legs, go as far as you can go. It's starting to become a reality."
    Who's ready for a thru-hike?

Manhattan Beach is by far one of the most beautiful and charming neighborhoods in California. Each time I am out on the West Coast, I make it a point to visit Manhattan Beach for a day of walking the shops and sand. I have even written a major scene for my new film which takes place on Manhattan Beach.

"A sense of freedom...A taste of reality"??? 🤔 I wonder how the descendants of the Bruce family feel about that title. looks like a beautiful area, though...👀

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! I lived on Manhattan Ave just up from the strand. Loved seeing the porpoises diving in the waves in the morning....

Manhattan Beach is one of my favorite places in the whole world! It is really beautiful, especially in Dec/Jan-Feb when all the crowds, local and international tourists, are gone. Otherwise it's way too crowded to be bothered worth visiting -- you won't find any parking anywhere (literally!) Do not go there any time other than winter

in the 70s I could park El Porto, Redonado, all those beaches free. Loved the strand, brought my kids there to ride bikes, the piers, on Friday nights was cruise on the blvd.

I was a kid back then and my babysitter lived right off of the stand and her boyfriend lived with her. He was a total Spicoli-type of surfer Dude and really cool. The vibe back then was 180 Degrees different than what it is today, not only in MB but ALL OVER California.

If I was rich, I would rather have a big house on Manhattan Beach overlooking the ocean rather than Hollywood Hills. That's just me, I like the South Bay =)

South Bay is what I consider the true laid back version of LA everybody dreams of, no doubt.

Ok I’m looking at this from London and this looks like exactly the LA I’d want to live in. It looks amazing.

Why limit yourself to that garbage? Go travel and learn California isn’t that great compared to the rest of the world. Compared to Shitcago, of Detroit, or any other big city, maybe.

Manhattan Beach was a nice family town, now it's so out of reach. I grew up in Hermosa Beach and Manhattan beach it was a wonderful place to live back in the 60s and 70s. Now it had turned into such a New York kind of out of touch town.

Grew up surfing MB Pier and El Porto, good memories but given all the million dollar real estate and celebrity residents, the community has lost some of its old soul/charm IMO.

You have to wear a mask here now, even when outdoors or get fined $100 so there goes your active lifestyle let alone trying to get a nice tan as your huffing and puffing your own carbon dioxide!
