    Still have my Corsair 2500 for more than 7 years. It is one of the best PC speaker systems I've heard. It gets very loud, the woofer is deep yet not muddled, with no clipping or distortion. Also one of my best PC upgrades I purchased. Good luck finding them.

      It's running those speakers at slightly below 220W. The rating on the speakers isn't how much power they consume all the time, it's how much they are designed to handle when maxed out at a 'safe' to them level.

      kaptainbastard These are not "great speakers" by any means. *The best speakers and amplifiers were made in the late 1970's as those were real Hi-Fi*. Things you can find on store shelves today are complete and utter crap.
      Back in the days, times were different. All manufacturers of equipment didn't have such big names as they have now. Companies were fighting for name/popularity. In the 70's, technical standards were also at a very high level. Engineers had more to say back then - that's why all parameters were described as they really were.
      Around early 80's, corporations found out that there is no more that can be done about quality in mass production - everything was already achieved. So, what to do next? There is need to make people buy something new! We need to earn money! More and more! They decided to "do less, talk more":
      1). Cut costs of production, make the product as cheap as possible (cheap plastic and garbage components).
      2). Instead of simply making a good product, they decided to concentrate more on promotion (promotion and packaging).
      3). Slow process of making worse and worse equipment started.
      Economics is the most important thing for companies now. Instead of making something really good, they are cutting costs of production and giving jobs to people for marketing/promotion. It's obvious that normal people aren't experienced in such things. If companies say that something is better because it was produced using "new technology", normal person has no choice but accept this lie.

      +Anime Maakuo What modern speakers are you comparing to 70s speakers? What you are saying makes little sense. There's no reason why good speakers cannot be made today. Sure you can find crappy speakers with plenty of bollocks marketing, but at the same time you can get perfectly good manufacturers. And there are many different speaker manufacturers, so surely some of them know how to make good sound. Also remember you need to take into account inflation when comparing.

    You have 2 options to do so.
    Option A) Use the coaxial (Red, White, Yellow) plugs and run plug those (Red and white accordingly) into the line in on the back of the sub. There is an option somewhere in the PS3 menu to send audio to both the HDMI and the coaxial.
    The other one requires you to have a PC with a soundcard that has a TOSLINK Digital Input. and it routes the sound thru your computer and out your computer speakers.

    these speakers sound REMARKABLY good.
    people make the comment that this isnt audiophile and that all this thing does is make really loud bass...... and you wrong.
    ya, the sub is huge, but its a band pass box.... a sealed, AND ported box at the same time.... which gives tight, accurate, yet loud and punchy bass.
    the highs are what highs should sound like, and the mids are good..
    infact.... audiophile websites actually rank the 2500's quite highly...when paired with a proper sound card. if you feed these speakers shit, they will sound like shit. match the impedance, and -10DB, and your all set.
    ive got 3 grand into a system in my car, and i like the flatness of my sp-2500s better than my car.

    This isn't "hi-fi". If you've done any research at all, you'd realize that small plastic boxes/acrylic speakers (which are mass produced crap), don't accurately reproduce sound. For top notch sound, you would need large/expensive studio monitors and high end amplifier and pre-amplifier.

    • @feel.s1304
      @feel.s1304 8 лет назад

      Property? And you don't need large speakers for high quality sound. Most audio engineers use small studio monitors unless they are in a large room.

    • @Ryokawshi
      @Ryokawshi 8 лет назад +1

      +FreshCrispyBacon You DO need large speakers for proper dynamics. What the hell are you talking about? Is a little baby woofer made by some boxing company supposed to give you this euphoric and tasteful accuracy? "Most engineers"? You mean, the ones that are imaginary, or the self-proclaimed idiots who think they know a lot about speakers, but they really don't? Do yourself a favor and buy a huge pair of vintage (preferably restored]) JBL speakers from Kenrick Sound in Japan (if you want serious high-end and *legitimate* "studio monitors", with heavy cast drivers). Unless of course, you're telling me that 50 Cent records his music with snake-oil branded, plastic speakers which were mass produced in China and labeled with "monitors" is good enough? Hah, give me a break. You know nothing, quite obviously. A true "studio monitor" will never be replicated from the past because those were the days when engineers competed for quality (instead of designing something to last many life times with accuracy and proper measurements, today they focus on packaging, cutting cost, cheap labor, used parts, and mass production of plastic drivers).

      Anime Maakuo I have a Pioneer a-x50 amp from the 80s which my dad bought, it's small but weighs a ton and only outputs about 30 watts a channel. In today's standards that's nothing but the sound quality it produces isn't comparable to anything made today! I think he paid around £500 pounds for it in the day which is heaps in today's money. He also has a pair of Leak 3020 speakers, which when combined with that amp, makes today's speakers sound like utter shit. Nothing today matches the sound and quality of vintage audio equipment.

    • @Ryokawshi
      @Ryokawshi 8 лет назад +1

      +Ben Smith You are absolutely correct. There's a documentary (Light Bulb Conspiracy) on RUclips which will confirm that. I highly recommend watching this because it's very educational. Companies nowadays (for the most part) do not take as much pride in their equipment as they once did in the past. There's a reason for this. In order to remain a successful business, many companies have to compete with low prices (they have to cut cost and find cheaper methods to make their product). Back in the days, this wasn't much of an issue because engineers took pride in their design and pushed their measurements to the very best. Specifications of equipment meant something compared to today's standard. McIntosh, for instance, is a *highly* reputable company that hasn't fallen victim as much to this phenomenon as other companies have - they practically invented stereo equipment.

    These are not audiophile speakers. Any audio product with the name "gaming" in the title will not be audiophile, that's is a guarantee. I got into gaming before I got into high-end audio, so I didn't used to understand just how much there is to know about audio and how wide of a range of products there are...but now that I do, man, I wish I could teach the world how to really look for good gear (for any budget).
    General rule, most audio products built by computer companies will be crap (the only exception I can think of off the top of my head are Asus's external Xonar DAC's, which are actually quite good, especially for the money). At the same time, the majority of people don't really know what "good" sound is anyways. If it gets loud and has lots of bass, it's good right? (We all know people like this...hell, it seems that most younger people these days seem to believe that).

      Since you've obviously researched pc audio, what is the best bang for the buck audio system that produces high fidelity sound for pc? I was looking at the Bose Companion 3 Series II for $220. They're less expensive than Corsair, but are they any good?

    • @audioman612
      @audioman612 10 лет назад +2

      Bose (along with Beats) is typically a strongly disliked company amongst audiophiles. Most of them will simply tell you that Bose is crap. To be more specific, Bose builds very average quality equipment for a more premium price-tag. To put it simply, Bose has a very bad price/performance ratio.
      If you're looking for a simple computer audio setup (as in powered speakers, so you don't need to worry about getting an amp), Audioengine makes some great pairs like the A5+ and A2+ (be sure to get speaker stands, or the bass will be a bit excessive from being coupled to your desk and the tweeters will probably be aimed at your chest instead of your ears; Audioengine makes a pair of matching stands for $35). You could add a subwoofer to these setups if you found bass to be lacking. Swan Audio also makes some good pairs (way too many to list), but they can be a bit of a pain to source (at least in the US). There are other products, but I think this is a decent start.
      I recently bought a pair of CEntrance Masterclass 2504's because I got them at an excellent price, and they sound great (though could use a subwoofer for things other than music). I'll probably get a NAD D 3020 to power them. They are really good near-field monitors for the money in my opinion.

    • @seibrav
      @seibrav 10 лет назад

      Eric Giese Thanks for the info. The A2+ seems to fit the bill.

    • @audioman612
      @audioman612 10 лет назад

      Awesome. I haven't heard them myself, but I've heard generally good things. I do know that they can be a bit weak in the bass department, but you could always throw a small sub in the mix (something like a NHT Super 8). If you can save up for the A5+s, it's worth it (they have been massdrop.com a few times recently), but if not, the A2+s will do you well. Glad to help!

    • @audioman612
      @audioman612 10 лет назад

      No, they are better in plenty of ways, down to the capacitors used for the crossovers. They may have less bass, due to physical limitations, but they are speakers with music in mind. If you want good audio advice, go to sites and forums that specialize in audio, not general computer websites. If you take audio seriously, there really is a ton to learn, far more than with general computing (and I'm a computer engineer).

    @theomega831 yes you can plug it to your blue-ray because in the back of the subwoofer it has an input that is red and white Thats for audio left right. Plug your blue ray using this cable (Red and White to the back of the subwoofer).

    All of that is well enough but the idea behind these speakers is that they are "set it and forget it" computer speakers that, when combined with a quality sound card, provide incredible sound quality in a single, self-contained setup.

    Nice video. I still own my set of Boston Acoustics Digital MediaTheater 4.1 speakers that came packaged with Gateway PCs in the late '90s. Still works and sounds great, even without a center channel. Right now I'm using a 2.0 setup from Dayton Audio bookshelf speakers and their class-T amplifier. My TV setup is Boston CR-95 towers and CR-75 rear bookshelves, CRC-7 center, sub and Yamaha receiver. The BA stuff is old but arguably better than their new consumer products.
    So I understand wanting good sound, and how most gaming or PC setups are usually junk. Klipsch had that great 5.1 setup but now seems focused on 2.1. I always lean toward audio companies rather than gaming companies, for sound! Good to see Corsair leaning in the right direction.

    for $90 more I bought myself swan m50w's because reviews and many forum recommendations were saying that the swan's were hard to beat. I personally believe that the bass this Corsair set puts out hits hard but is quite "boomy" the swan's on the other hand have a sub that puts out very cleans bass that blends extremely well with the satellites but also hits pretty hard.
    That's my opinion after a fair bit of research.

    I had one, and tested it against my logitech Z-623 system. Both provide equally personally. I really don't think gamers care too much as long as they have a headset, whilst this seems to be more audiophile and theater people. One is THX certified and the other is made with studio quality. Personal preference, I'd go with the logitech system, more compact system with around the same power output for half the price.

    I would recommend the Logitech Z623 or Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 speaker systems if you can't afford the Corsair SP2500 2.1 price tag. I actually own the Z623 system so I can vouch for it on a personal basis. I got it on sale on Amazon for $99, and it gives PLENTY bang for your buck. The highs are crisps, the mids are "full", and the sub reaches the low frequencies pretty well for an 8inch driver (the system is THX certified therefore you'll get plenty of low frequency response). I also own an Image Dynamics IDMAX 12 sub, therefore I have a high standard that I can compare the Z623s sub to in terms of loudness and frequency frequency response. As for the Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 system; Klipsch is a well known high end audio manufacturer. They make some of the best sounding speakers available. That said, the Pro Media 2.1 system isn't one of their multi-thousand dollar speaker systems, but you can be guaranteed you're getting great sounding and good quality speakers from a reputable company at a decent price. Hope this helps!

      Epic Paddo Not really. I can't fully vouch for the Klipsch speakers since I've never owned them. As for the Logitech speakers I've ran a test tone through them and the sub is pretty responsive from 33Hz and up. It wouldn't surprise me the KRK RP 10-3s sound better but they also cost considerably more, 5 times more in my case.

    • @joemama7031
      @joemama7031 10 лет назад

      The Z623 highs won't be as good, since they have no tweeters. The lows will be close but the SP2500 probably hits harder. The box is 4th order bandpass, the sub is an inch bigger, but the wattage of both subs is close. Neither will have amazing mids since the mid range drivers on both of them are fairly small, but they'll still hit mids.

    • @XShadowHazeX
      @XShadowHazeX 10 лет назад

      Mark R I'm sure the SP2500 is better in some respects, but the Z623 performs very well for being half the cost.

    If the amplifiers are bridged then they are not powering the tweeters and drivers individually, they are running in unison to achieve the ohm rating of the drivers, woofer and tweeters.

    11:43 - 12:05 the difference linus, is that their design allows for better "clean" bass for short notes, such as a kick drum that has more of a THUMP THUMP feel, and is not so much intented for the bass guitar which has a much longer note or support things more liky sythentically created bass heard often in rap music (not downing rap music or that kind of bass i love it, just smaller subs aren't going to support it that well)

  • @RWL2012
    @RWL2012 4 года назад

    lol I find it funny how in the "subwoofer" section on the box they didn't even put that it's a fourth-order bandpass enclosure!
    In the diagram of it though it's basically showing that the subwoofer driver is in a sealed chamber firing into a ported chamber, which gives a more "punchy" bass.

  •  13 лет назад

    @kevaughanshiu yes you can hook it up to your PS3 because in the back of the subwoofer, it has an input that is Red and white (cable "red and white" included with these speakers) DO NOT PLUG THE RED AND WHITE CABLE TO YOUR TV - ONLY YOUR CORSAIR and ONLY THE YELLOW CABLE GOES TO YOUR TV (More help ask me or LinusTechTips)

    If you are serious about good audio then don't waste too much time on "good sound cards", most of these are just affordable 5.1/7.1 processors.
    Instead, just take the digital connection out of your motherboard (preferably co-ax) then run it into a good DAC, like the V-DAC by Musical Fidelity or Box DAC by Project. Then run the phono from that to these lovely speakers through the line-in.
    Congrats - you just made the best audio upgrade ever for your PC! No soundcard needed...

    Those M-Audio's are indeed decent studio monitors for the price but are not really in the same market as something like the SP2500's. There's no sub for one and they are more designed for accurate signal and frequency response rather than general computer use (where their 20W amps would probably be a bit underpowered). Certainly anybody interested in computer speakers would be well served to consider studio monitors (I love my old KRK's) but they are not necessarily right for everyone.

    Makes the sub safer putting in bandpass box vs down firing open sub to the elements! From my experience with car audio bandpass, they are great for space saving without all the cost to killing the audio experience! 😎

    You have a pair of KEF's in your home? That's awesome, my grandad has a pair of KEF's hooked to a Marantz stereo amp. This is a pretty pricey system for what you get and although it's nice to see features that are usually found in home theatre tech, some of it is pointless for speakers of this caliber. For example, Bi-amping on those small satellites is pointless and I would only consider it for larger bookshelf's or floorstanding loudspeakers.
    While it is a nice attempt from Corsair, a lot of it is still marketing gimmicks made for those who don't know better. Personally, if I were to get something better on such a low budget, I would go for a low end Home Theatre separates 5.1 surround sound or jump to the middle ground such as the Cambridge Audio MINX sat+sub systems.

    logitech z906. first of the z906 is surround so great for movies and games. this subwoofer is 120 watts, and the logitech one is 190 watts, although the z906 doesnt have tweeters so they do have a little lack on the really high tones. but you wont hear a really big differense anyway. also the completely black speakers and subwoofer are far more stylish (i think)
    dunno if its more expensive and if your watching your budget but i will choose the logitech over this.

    The listed specifications on the box in the video are different from those on the box that my SP2500's came in. My box says 232 watts RMS, not 220 like in the video. My box also says each satellite has 56 watts instead of 50 watts like in the video. Weird. Also, just a side note, this system is LOUD. The volume controller for this system maxes out at level 24, but for regular use (watching movies, videos, gaming, iTunes, etc) I keep the volume at level 2! If I really want to piss off the neighbors I turn it up to level 12. Anything higher and your brain goes numb. I am running my SP2500's through a Creative Sound Blaster Z internal sound card, and I generally keep Microsoft Windows volume level at 100% and only adjust the SP2500's volume. I am not sure how this system would sound paired with standard on-board audio, and I'm guessing it would not perform quite as well, but in my case, this system is seriously ridiculous.

    Corsair has developed to cater primarily to the overclocking and gaming communities (which largely overlap - no reason to overclock to use Excel :p) All of their expansions make sense - high end systems require good power supplies, a lot of tweaking (especially watercooling) takes a ton of space, hence specialized cases. The speakers are a bit more of a stretch, but it fills the gap between mediocre 50-100 dollar speakers and the absurdly good 500 dollar ones.

    I love how Corsair decided to repurpose a bunch of random ports. The satellites are powered with 4-pin CPU power, as mentioned, but he didn't mention that the remote console plug is (physically) one of those old analog video ports. I sure there's a couple million of those ports in random manufacturer inventories never to be used again, since analog video out has almost completely died off, so the decision makes sense. It is, however, amusing.
