Ryan, I put down some Elite PRG about 3 weeks ago in Upstate NY. It went around a 10x24 concrete pad we had installed next to the garage in Dec. After some snow, an earthquake, an eclipse, and some very heavy rain I was concerned about washout and if the seed would germinate. I'm happy to report that it started growing last week and is up to maybe 1.5" so far. The rain did a number on some areas and its patchy but a reseed should fill it in nicely. I have two other bare areas from drainage work and regrading to seed. Then need to rake, mow, and overseed the rest. Really excited to see where I'll be by the summer.
Mike, I'm also in (way) upstate NY. Had an awesome Eclipse too. However, my ground temp still isn't warm enough to grow my Elite PRG yet. (4/25) Do you know what your temp is? Where in NYS are you?
@@johnhaubner1889 I'm in southern Saratoga County. Overnight we've been getting down to 32 and this week it has been highs of mid-50's, but the 10 day in looking good with high in the 60's/70's and lows in the 40's.
Hey man question I tried overseer twice in fall and did not work. First forgot to rake seed into tilled dirt lightly and maybe overwatered second time used a drum water barrel roller to press seed in dirt thinking make sure seed is touching durt enough both did not work. Now thinking using a dethatcher or slit seeder to swirl see into drift 1/4 inch so seed is in dirt enough. Instead of of putting dirt on top of seed. I have one of those dethatcher so I going to use that. Both those times I tilled the dirt/existing grass good with dethatcher blade option pretty good deep as settings allowed then did it those two ways. Should I only ‘till’ with the dethatcher on the ‘high’ depth setting meaning only tills dirt 1/4 inch or similiar so it’s not tilling dirt too deep/to keep seed from going to low into dirt. Here’s what I thinking and advice would help Cut grass little lower then usual 4 inch to 2 Dethatcher and just till dirt little bit/use leaf blower for clippings Push mow with bagger and maybe 1.5 inch high Grass seed spreader overseed amount Then use dethatcher and go over the seed to swirl it into the dirt up to 1/4 inch deep with dethatcher Water delicately so I donot over water
Hopefully y’all in the northern plains get some on going rains and thunderstorm activity this summer. It’s been a very wet and mild favorable spring here in Michigan. I hope the moisture continues all summer. I hate when we get dry summers, I want beautiful things without the work of irrigating everything 😂
I’m sooo sick of the wind it’s ridiculous, without the wind I’d be in a t-shirt but unfortunately still having to wear long johns lol good old Canadian weather! lol
The wind has been terrible in NE US too. And the temps have been fluctuating like crazy. One week it’s in the 70s all week. The next week it’s in the mid 30s. Messing up my whole spring seeding project.
Hey Ryan I'm curious, have you ever played around with pregerminating grass seed by submerging in water for a series of days?? Thinking of trying this for my shady area that I just can't get to come in. Any feedback or maybe even a video would be appreciated!
Couple questions, how soon until I can mow my lawn after overseeding? (It’s been 2 weeks and grass has germinated) should I apply tenacity every 3-4 weeks as a pre emergent? 😊
Depends on many factors but usually when things are about an inch higher than your intended height of cut - can do one more round of tenacity at 4 weeks but I would go to a different post emergent after that. I have videos on post emergent from my front lawn last spring more for info
Hey Ryan Really enjoying your videos, living up in New Hampshire I know how weather can change rapidly. I just dethatched my KBG this past week. Just waiting little warmer weather to help it recover from it. On side note, I can send you a PACKERS winter hat if you want me too. Ha ha!! 😆 GO PACK GO!! Thanks again for great lawn videos have used a lot of your tips in my lawn care. 👍
Hey @ryanknorrlawncare Question: should we water on top of morning dew? Is morning Dee the same as rain? Can you do a video maybe sometime on “morning dew”? Water on it or not? Thanks.
Watering it helps to remove the dew which in very humid climates can be a good thing when the water is not sitting on the grass for extended periods of time. It won't be the same as rain in terms of you can't count it as true irrigation into the soil.
Having part of my backyard regraded end of may. Is it better to do a quick seed and then renovate in the fall or should I seed with good grass seed and water religiously?
You'll have likely nothing but crabgrass if you seed late may. I would just do an annual rye or cover crop or really, let weeds come in and start spraying them all in early July in prep for the renovation late summer.
I completed my lawn renovation, put down my peat moss, watered it well, but noticed the soil was dry beneath the peat moss. Is that normal? I thought it would be wet, along with the peat moss.
7 days after seed down and no sign of PRG germination. Been watering 3-4 times a day. Air temps plumetted and now soil temps are down from mid 60s when seed went down to below 50. Hoping the seed will survive if I keep it wet and germinate when air temps are up in the 70s next weekend.
@@ryanknorrlawncare well I was wrong. Just saw some new grass, but it was red in it. I think because of cold stress, hopefully it will hang on for a few days until it gets warmer. Should I stop watering during the cold weather?
@@ryanknorrlawncare are you saying that without the bag you don’t really have enough suction to pull the seeds off of the soil? I’m afraid to run a rotary over the top of over seed myself it just feels like the blade would be chopping up seeds. But if I’m wrong, I love the idea because that’s always one of my challenges with over seeding. keeping the existing turf short.
@@anthonydickman757 I haven't seen any issues with it and the seed should already be at the soil level from watering for the first few days so it doesn't pick up very easily.
Okay. I was just worried about using my Toro with the vertex system. I was also worried about growth of existing grass because I used Starter fertilizer.

The amount of different plots and projects you have going at once is wild! Really interested in the potential golf green. Love that.
