They were Motorhead. And they played rock and roll.

10:28 is among the greatest moments of Rock'n Roll! I've never heard anything like that before and again. Gorgeous!

He just had that right sound..ballsy loud low gain. Phil is great guitarist, but his sound is just awful for me, sounds like a wah and plus he was always hanging on wah.

Not quite, the original line up was Lemmy, Larry Wallis and Lucas Fox. BUT the line up in this video was the best.

Phil Taylor doesn't get near the recognition he deserves, he practically invented metal/ thrash drumming with that double bass drum attack. Plus he had the best hair in the business!

Tight tight tight, groove and swing, the ACCENTS in every riff.. his hi hat work is like no one else.
And agreed about the hair:) Cheers, forever Motorhead!

The SAME drum beat was used by Ian Paice in the M8 of Deep Purple's song Fireball in 1971 - and even THAT was not the first use of this drum exercise.

i love this song. the drums do pan that way as when you see them.libe it make your head actually move. I was at a concert and before they started Phil kicked one drum and sent my head one way and the snare took it back the other. I think these are tricks Lemmy learned with hawkwind.

  • @Вольноетворчество-п3ы

Very interesting analysis of an atypical song of my favorite band! Thank you. Perhaps all talk only about Ace of Spades...
I was open again this song for me a little time ago.
It was nice to hear about what makes Motorhead music special.
Interesting note about Lemmy's voice. I thought I was the only one who noticed that he had two voices in one. One clear and the second deep sound of hoarseness. You are imbued with great respect for the singer, who does not have high natural skills, but is working on his voice. (God was never on u side / Dead and Gone / Dont let daddy kiss me / Too good to be true)
    thx for video, Dennis

One of mine favourite mixing desks is the Neve console or should I say consoles that at one stage where selling for next to nothing and then went through the roof ( price wise ) over night, and I believe were made in the US of A but also I know that the British made some good consoles as well. Just a reactions to your pre-amp remark and saturation.

I could get a distorted effect recording to tape by over saturating the tape with a high recording level. By setting the record level +5 to +7dB, vs 3dB where it was cleaner? Maybe they did a little of this?

would i be wrong to say that the saturation (wall of sound effect) was perfected in his time with Hawkwind. Especially on the live album from the do re me tour?

Just leave it alone. Recorded at London, Roundhouse Winter 78/79. Early Motorhead fans don't care about heavy metal or what heavy metal like. This was OUR band, filthy Rock n Rock. It wasn't about analysis. What you are doing is the antithesis of Rock n Rock.

I'll never understand Motorhead's popularity. Give me any single song and I like it. Give me multiple songs in a row and I'm bored. They pretty much just wrote the same song over and over and over.
