good video and info. i think you covered this well. i used to run everything under the sun. lol. sump,,fx6, purigen, chemi pure elite, a 15w external uv sterilizer. polishing pads. i realized in my case anyway, that it wasnt really necessary. the only thing im running now is my sump draining into a filter sock. and i saw little to no drop off in clarity. i think filtration/turn over, proper circulation, bio load, and feeding regimen are the keys to achieving this kind of clarity.

this video is awesome I used to think that Crystal Clear Water came from deep cleaning your substrate every water change mind you I used to do water changes every two weeks now I do them weekly but back then I would deep clean my substrate thinking that I would get crystal clear water and my water always look the same it was just ok I changed around a couple things that I would do and instantly noticed that my water became more clear I do a deep cleaning maybe once a month and probably just say that I have crystal clear water my friends that come to my house and see my tank that's the first thing they noticed is how clear and clean my water is thanks for this video buddy
+bernie grant thanks Bernie I appreciate you watching. I went thru the same thing with my substrate, used to vacuum it all the time and always clouded my water
like your channel, good information and straigt to the point. but a question from my side: fx6's aint that common in my country and i dont know anywone that owns one. but how much noise do they make in your opinion? are they quiet?
Having 2 yoyo loaches in the tank that dig through the substrate constantly everyday, it takes ages for my water to clear. Cause they stir it up constantly. 🤣 Got 1600L per hour of filter flow and 7 trays of mechanical filtration. And they still seem to screw it up at least once a day 🤣
Very informative Adam! Thank you. Do you have to deal with micro bubbles sometimes? It's a random problem I deal with my Fx6. I tried a lot of different settings but it doesn't get better. Can you please tell me your opinion on that?
Great video Adam looks great 👍. I have been running a 220 gallon over flow system with a 30 gallon sump, that runs back up through a 36 watt uv. Along with 2 FX6’s and it has been the best investment since I have been keeping African Cichlids. Chema pure blue and elite, in my sump. And for bio media I use marine pure brick and all biohome ultra large and maxi in my sump. Seachem pound matrix, seachem de nitrate, Purigen, Ammonia Zero lite, and Bulk Reef carbon in separate reactors of their own as well. In my FX6’s I tried Poundguru version of pimp my filter and used poly fill on the bottom and top treys around the biohome ultimate media. I know I have spent a lot on filtration but knowing that I can go a few weeks without having to do much maintenance but water changes. My canister I only open them every month. In my sump I replace the poly fill and wash out the 200 micron mesh sock when I do water changes. In the long run I want to switch over to predator Haps. One of the main reason I did my filtration to such max. Your tanks always look great 👍 at all times bro . Been learning alot from other hobbies out there including yourself.. Keep it up with the informational videos.. THANK bro👍
Great video and thanks for the tips! chemistry clear blue fluval thick filters 2 fx6's sounds amazing so does your sun sun 304b sterilize? Does your light sterilize?
Thank you for watching. My sun sun has a UV light but I rarely use it. Many many stories of uv sterilizers being left on all the time in sun sun filters and they melt the plastic tray
How do you remove all of the daily feces that drops down to the bottom of the tank (on top of the sand/gravel)? I use long feeding tongs to pull them out of the tank every day which can get time-consuming.
Thanks Adam, im a little stuck as mine are behind a channel in the background so i need to add a 90 bend to the pipe which will then make the two outlets be upside down if that makes sense!!
@@adamc7918 is your canister intake behind the background? Do you have any videos of how your tanks are set up with the background, like placement of heater, filter intake/outtake..etc?
I have a 200 gallon Africans cichlids tank with two fx6s pads top bio middle puragen bottom and i have power head pointing to top just still gets a lot of particles in water ??
I think a very simple thing that is most overlooked is cleaning the outside glass. A good background helps a lot too. Lighter backgrounds show less in the water and glass while reflecting more lighting. I think too much emphasis is put on the actual water clarity itself and what fancy chemicals you can add to a filter. I’m my experience it’s more often how you are viewing it. Not mater how clean the water is if the glass is dirty the tank will always look dirty.
Hey Adam, great tips! I do pretty much the same thing as you in my 220, but I have a sump with 2 FX6S. I also just use Purigen, but I don't re-activate it; I just replace. Otherwise, I really enjoyed your video and thanks very much for sharing.
Hi Adam.. great info. I have to say that Sapphire is stunning!! The interesting thing is when you do your water testing on a bloom it's usually good. It takes time to allow the tank to settle itself. It will if you give it time. The biggest point is don't panic and over clean or you will be taking 2 steps back instead of forward. Do you use a UV sterilizer at all? I have a couple but haven't used them in a while. With all the sunshine and heat I am thinking I may use them for summer. What's your take?
Adam, thank you for this great video but I did not hear you say how much is too much feeding. I have been feeding once a day 6-7 days a week. I try to give only enough that they eat for a couple of minutes but sometimes I feed more than that. I have sand in my tank as substrate; I’m thinking that might be a problem. We also have a bubble wand under a piece of driftwood and I think it is kicking some sand up into the water. I’m going to try to make a way to put the wand under the wood onto something flat that is not the sand to see if that helps. This tank has onjy had fish in t for a few months. I’m running 2 SUNSUN 704B filters in a 75 gallon. Doing a 15% water change every couple of weeks. Thank you so much.
I feed almost that same amount. My only suggestion is you may want to increase your water change percentage. But of you're having success by all means roll with it
what do you think about carbon in aquariums? I'm in the process of starting a 90 gallon Tanganyika tank with trickle sump filtration and I was thinking about adding a carbon reactor. it's similar to a small canister filter with only activated carbon in it. What do you think. Thanks for all your great advice.
"ah, new at fish keeping I see"...........will be the response you get. All carbon does it take chemicals out of your water. If you start a new tank, and don't put jack squat chemicals in it, (you don't need any).........you don't need carbon. Foam to take out particles. Biomedia to support bacteria to consume the ammonia. That's it. Not to mention, probably 80% of all carbon used sits in the filter too long. After a while, the carbon RELEASES everything it's absorbed back into the aquarium. If you use it.........TAKE IT OUT WITHIN A WEEK!!!
Sahadi420 carbon does take out pollutants it also gets rid of those nasty smells in your tank. I was trying to figure out if it has anything to do with water clarity. I didn't know carbon can leach the toxins back into your tank. I thought it would have to get pretty hot to do that like boiling hot. Thanks for the info., if you have a channel I'll sub you and check it out.
Chemipure blue is basically activated carbon and purigen in a single use bag. I would use 2 canisters and put your chemical filtration of choice as the last layer of each. I don't care for the idea of a dedicated carbon/chemical media filter since particulates will get into that filter and clog it up.
rmjeff45 thank you sounds about right to me. great advice. no need to devote a canister to carbon. Didn't really know what chemipure blue was now I do thanks again.
First of all thanks for the videos. They are a big help. Secondly I believe I saw a video that you made where I believe you said your third canister filter is simply for Bio media if so how often do you maintenance or clean that filter that you use for Bio only.I'm thinking about adding a third canister to my 125
+Robert Fezekas hi Robert thank you very much. funny you ask, if you go back through my videos maybe a month or so I did a video called don't make me open this. it was about my bio only canister and I hadn't cleaned it in a year. I wouldn't recommend waiting that long, I did it as am experiment and my water quality was always good when tested. normally I clean the bio only filter about ever 4 months or so. I take all the bio media out and leave it alone. then I spray down all the empty trays and put the media back in and it's good to go
Clear water: 1. Good filtration (if you have a 30-gallon fish tank, use a 50-gallon filter). 2. Don't overfeed your fish and use pellets instead of flakes. 3. Make 30% water changes every two weeks. If you are setting up a new fish tank, do it every week for the first two months to let the aquarium to stabilize. 4. Don't leave the lights on to prevent algae growth. 5. Clean the glass in and out at least every two weeks. Sometimes what is dirty is the glass.
Nice video. I have a question. I am trying to find out the gender of my two mbuna cichilds, I have an electric yellow cichild that has very light black on the fins and my demasoni cichild has a very light blue and little purple color. Could you tell the gender of those two mbuna cichilds?
+Roblox 5orange I'm not really an mbuna expert, but I think to be sure you may have to vent them. it's a pretty simple thing to do if you read up on it
Beutifull tank man..congratulation..looking amazing all cichlids👍..thnks to sharing few tips..im also use one extra filter like eheim 2217 just with polyfilm for small dusty and works well.. ..if this can help some body i well be happy😉
Nothing to do with Chemi pure or gravel vac. It's the fact that you run multiple canisters in your tank. It's the mechanical filtration. Although running multiple filters won't improve biological filtration ( there's a limit for how much bacteria you need ) it will improve your mechanical filtration. That's it. Chemi pure, carbon or any type of chemical filtration won't do nothing to water clarity unless you have tannins.
Adam C , sorry didn't explain too well...I keep fancy goldfish and now have discus too ( not together) . I want to increase filtration but the fish don't like a lot of movement in the water . If I add another canister the flow will be pretty fierce. So wondered how you dissipate it. Their Tank is 4x2x2 has eight fish in it. But they crap for England lol
+Gordon Jackson that's a tricky one. my fish do perfectly fine with the excess surface agitation but I know discus prefer calm water. you can always try pointing all of your returns up which will agitate the surface but won't cause too much current. or you could always try sponge filters or mat filters which can give you more biological filtration but don't really cause any current. without knowing exactly what you are trying to accomplish or how your tank is set up that is my initial thoughts
I use whole house filter 5 micron to achieve crystal clear water. % micron filter 20" is also great biomass media for bio filter. Only purigen can match my clarity.
Hello. I see alot of videos of people using chemi pure blue or purigen but i never seen what it is or where its put can anyone let me know if u put this stuff in the canister filter? Thanks
Hi. U put in a lot of effort to keep ur cichlids healthy. Not to sure what kind of water ur being supplied but do u really need to really run 3 canisters? My 170 gallon is 6 months old i have 86 peacock hap n mbuna. Im running 1 canister. 2 submersible power filter 4 sponge filter. Never tested my water for PH, ammonia, nitrate. Never had problem of ich, bloat, para* fishes are happy and coloring up. Grown from 1.5 inches to 5 inches in 6 months. Feed twice a day, 25% water change/week. The only product i use is safe. My water is as clear as bottled drinking water. The kind of equipment u guys use are highly expensive here in india.
Its possibly overkill but I had the canisters from older tanks that I had taken down, so I already had the canisters and wanted to use them. I do like the 3 though because it turns the water over a lot per hour. I certainly get your point though. But like everything I do in the hobby I probably spend more time and money than I really need to
+irish gta fan that depends on a lot of things like type of filtration, type of substrate, if you use polishing pads in your filtration, if you've used any products to aid in the cycling process, if you have fish in there, there's a lot that could affect that
+irish gta fan yes you can do that, don't stir up the substrate every day though that will keep it cloudy. as long as u have proper filtration usually it will clear on its own
Imo the substrate shouldn't be deep cleaned. I've done a deep clean with the vac maybe twice and I've had my 140L for a few years. A light skim every few months is good enough.
To make my aquarium water crystal clear, this is what I did. I got myself a power filter (The most common filter). I temporarily removed the sponge media that came with it as it is too porous. I replaced it with filter wool. I simply cut the wool to the right size and put it in the power filter and ran it. In less than a day, the water is super clear. Filter wool is best to polish the water, but not effecient for bio filteration. So once the water was crystal, I re-put the regular filter sponge. I love blabbering about fish on my Facebook Page - facebook.com/Convict-Cichlid-179626675527458/
is there any reason why my blue ali has the entire tank off to one side and won't let anybody come past half way. He's the smallest and it's a Predator hap tank. could I have a female in there?
+jared martin it's just odd timing in the picture. pure coincedence. normally he is with all the rest. I have a female in here who isn't really bothered
+jared martin oh haha I completely misread that. yes that could be a reason. sometimes though a dominant fish just claims a whole half of a tank. happened to me plenty of times
+jared martin oh yeah I saw he sold them all. nice pickups for you. if i were you I'd try rearranging the tank and lower the water temperature just a tad
+Free Swimmer haha. not as long as your new side view. idk what happened. I was subbed and then i saw your update on a friend's recommendation. I was confused why I wasn't subbed anymore
U 'VE very very Beautiful cichlids but not good aquarium length, height its ok but not width..remember not only provide good thing to fish is enough.COMFORT space" is very important.....
I have a great all male showtank, crystal clear water and no problems no algey ...I use nothing I only feed them end do every 2 week water changes... for 1 year now..

1. Good filtration (if you have a 30-gallon fish tank, use a 50-gallon filter).

I have an electric yellow cichild that has very light black on the fins and my demasoni cichild has a very light blue and little purple color.
Could you tell the gender of those two mbuna cichilds?
+Roblox 5orange I'm not really an mbuna expert, but I think to be sure you may have to vent them. it's a pretty simple thing to do if you read up on it
Adam C thanks. Have you ever had a mbuna cichild?
+Roblox 5orange yes probably 7 or 8 years ago I had a tank of them
Adam C why did you change to haps and peacock cichilds?
+Roblox 5orange just personal preference in how they look
Beutifull tank man..congratulation..looking amazing all cichlids👍..thnks to sharing few tips..im also use one extra filter like eheim 2217 just with polyfilm for small dusty and works well.. ..if this can help some body i well be happy😉
Thank you
Lately my 10 gallon has been a tad cloudy. So I tried Purigen today for the first time. Hope it helps.
give it time it should
Great tips and great video.
Thank you
we are addicted to u r

haha. thank you so much. I appreciate the support
great informative vid, and awesome looking tank👍
+My Cichlidz thank you I appreciate it
Your video and audio quality is great. What camera do you use?
+HalfMan HalfCichlid thank you. it's just my phone. galaxy s7
Thank you, do you find any things you wish it would do better with in recording your fish vids?
+HalfMan HalfCichlid honestly no not really. it has nice audio and video and has a Samsung video editing app preloaded
What media do you put in the other two trays I also have a fx6
I use basic filter pads, bio rings and chemi pure blue
Nothing to do with Chemi pure or gravel vac. It's the fact that you run multiple canisters in your tank. It's the mechanical filtration. Although running multiple filters won't improve biological filtration ( there's a limit for how much bacteria you need ) it will improve your mechanical filtration. That's it. Chemi pure, carbon or any type of chemical filtration won't do nothing to water clarity unless you have tannins.
Hey noob here, are those freshwater or marine fishes?
hi sheriff, nothing wrong with being a noob . these are freshwater that come from the great rift lakes in Africa
I use an under gravel filter for my 29 gallon and the water is super clear.
+Sean Ford awesome. thanks for watching
How do you deal with the flow output of three filters ?
+Gordon Jackson hi gordon, in what way do you mean?
Adam C , sorry didn't explain too well...I keep fancy goldfish and now have discus too ( not together) . I want to increase filtration but the fish don't like a lot of movement in the water . If I add another canister the flow will be pretty fierce. So wondered how you dissipate it. Their Tank is 4x2x2 has eight fish in it. But they crap for England lol
+Gordon Jackson that's a tricky one. my fish do perfectly fine with the excess surface agitation but I know discus prefer calm water. you can always try pointing all of your returns up which will agitate the surface but won't cause too much current. or you could always try sponge filters or mat filters which can give you more biological filtration but don't really cause any current. without knowing exactly what you are trying to accomplish or how your tank is set up that is my initial thoughts
i guess you got two cannister running at a time and sand doing its work as well.
+Zubair Javed thank you zubair
great video, crystal clear water, i also use the white pads
+Efrain's Cichlids thanks for watching efrain I appreciate it
Super helpful great vid👍
Thank you for watching
I use whole house filter 5 micron to achieve crystal clear water. % micron filter 20" is also great biomass media for bio filter. Only purigen can match my clarity.
Cool, thanks for the info
How often should I do water changes?
totally depends on what type of fish you have and how many you have, as well as type of filtration
Hello. I see alot of videos of people using chemi pure blue or purigen but i never seen what it is or where its put can anyone let me know if u put this stuff in the canister filter? Thanks
Yes u can put it in your canister filter or sump even
@@adamc7918 thank you
What is over feeding and how many times is over feeding
If you have a lot laying on the bottom then it's too much for sure
Can I tank a green terror with a red empress?
I wouldn't recommend it, they are from different parts of the world and have different water requirements
THANK YOU!!
You're welcome
Perfectly said!!🙌
+Tony Star thanks for watching Tony
But like everything I do in the hobby I probably spend more time and money than I really need to
is it true that when cycling a tank it goes through a faze of being cloudy
+irish gta fan it certainly can
how long does it take for that to clear thanks
+irish gta fan that depends on a lot of things like type of filtration, type of substrate, if you use polishing pads in your filtration, if you've used any products to aid in the cycling process, if you have fish in there, there's a lot that could affect that
im just using fish flakes to cycle it once its done cycling do i just do water changes to remove the cloudyness
Great info as usual.
+Cali Cichlid Man thank you cali
Awesome thanks for uploading.
thanks for watching
What do you have no plants?
I do now in my larger tank, you can see in recent videos
I use an aqua clear 30 and a fluval 206
+Logan Vapez nice filters
I use polyfilter and polyester batting
+logan roast corner good stuff also
very informative, I like that 😎
+fantasyqwest thank you for watching
great video
+Tyler H thank you Tyler
UV steriliser works a treat !
+jem Ogn yes those help quite a bit
Your substrate is your best filter. Never deep clean substrate always run minimum 2-2 1/2 inche bed 👍
I rarely if ever deep clean mine, just an occasional stirring
Which Substrate is this??
Its called Sahara sand and is sold by caribbsea
To make my aquarium water crystal clear, this is what I did. I got myself a power filter (The most common filter). I temporarily removed the sponge media that came with it as it is too porous. I replaced it with filter wool. I simply cut the wool to the right size and put it in the power filter and ran it. In less than a day, the water is super clear. Filter wool is best to polish the water, but not effecient for bio filteration. So once the water was crystal, I re-put the regular filter sponge. I love blabbering about fish on my Facebook Page - facebook.com/Convict-Cichlid-179626675527458/
Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
@@adamc7918 Your welcome bro!
That mara rock is lit
Thanks, one of my favorites
aquaponics is the easiest, best way to have crystal clear water with no maintenance. just add water when it evaporates.
good advice
Great tank
Thank you Richard
I will sub to you be greatfull if you would do same bk
Thanks Richard I'll check out your channel
if we can't see air does that mean fish can't see water? :D
+AnimeGamerCreater life's ultimate question
lol XD
+AnimeGamerCreater lol
They can
top 10 questions scientists still cant answer to this day
My tank looks the same! I’ve only got sponge and bio media lol
awesome
Adam C don’t see any chemicals in lake Malawi
no you sure don't
Good
Thank you
is there any reason why my blue ali has the entire tank off to one side and won't let anybody come past half way. He's the smallest and it's a Predator hap tank. could I have a female in there?
+jared martin it's just odd timing in the picture. pure coincedence. normally he is with all the rest. I have a female in here who isn't really bothered
sorry Adam but I'm asking about my 125 hap tank and my blue ali...
+jared martin oh haha I completely misread that. yes that could be a reason. sometimes though a dominant fish just claims a whole half of a tank. happened to me plenty of times
I purchased Matthew Moore's set-up. He tells me that you have helped him out in the past.
+jared martin oh yeah I saw he sold them all. nice pickups for you. if i were you I'd try rearranging the tank and lower the water temperature just a tad
I sure love a good sideview !! Looks great and thanks for sub'n !
+Free Swimmer haha. not as long as your new side view. idk what happened. I was subbed and then i saw your update on a friend's recommendation. I was confused why I wasn't subbed anymore
Glad to have ya back.. lol
My water is starting to get mature again and the new tank look is almost gone..
+Free Swimmer idk it is odd. I have had other people say the same thing to me that somehow they got unsubscribed
all good.
The aquascaping needs work. Go get more rock at a landscaping store for somewhere around $.20 per pound.
i keep clear water by haveing a larger amount of cleaners than regular fish
+mlp universe thanks for watching
It's only clear because there's nothing in your tank.
Have a tank with plants in it.
😘🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thanks for watching
👌🏻
+Bas ti thanks for watching
ich benutze keine chemie und habe trotzdem kristall klares wasser einfach guten filter haben
Feels like it's way harder in heavily planted tanks :l
+Channidae I don't have a ton of experience with planted tanks but I am sure you are right
Channidae Yeah I had a heavily planted tank and is harder . too much or strong water flow pushes the plants round all over the place
+Ricardo cichlid I bet that is difficult to keep clear
Adam C sure was adam , decided to trade in the plants for african cichlid tank and loving every minute of it ☺
+Ricardo cichlid haha. congrats
U 'VE very very Beautiful cichlids but not good aquarium length, height its ok but not width..remember not only provide good thing to fish is enough.COMFORT space" is very important.....
I dont have that aquarium anymore
I have them in an 8 foot king 300 now that I show on my recent videos. Thanks for stopping by
Polly fill
Good stuff
I have a great all male showtank, crystal clear water and no problems no algey ...I use nothing I only feed them end do every 2 week water changes... for 1 year now..
+Simon F B awesome
What size tank is that?
This is a 220, but I just got a 300 that you can see in my most recent videos
