I saw the national tour last night and I CRIED!!!

ugh. I have to see "The Sound of Music" live at least once before I die.
This cast is absolutely amazing, if you can, see them :D
Saw this a few days ago at Ahmanson and it was AMAZING.

He was awesome in the show, and he is the nicest man. He talked to my four-year-old niece for about 10 minutes and made a HUGE fan that day :)

+Alex 24-01 That's still an accomplishment, to get close at that level, and if you impressed them that much, and behave graciously (of course you did and do), most likely good stuff will come from the experience. Congratulations! And you'll have so many more opportunities. Maybe you know, from that, and can tell: In this production, is "My Favorite Things" sung by Maria and Reverend Mother, as in the original, or with the children, as in the movie?
Ashley brown she was Mary Poppins which Julie Andrews was in and now she is in Sound of Music which Julie Andrews was in
+Jane Alberti True~And Ashley Brown also starred in OKLAHOMA and SHOW BOAT, neither of which Julie Andrews ever did, that I know of. And, of course, Miss Julie's done a bunch of things Ashley's never done. Two very talented ladies, for sure! Still, as much as I admire and enjoy Ashley B., I'd prefer the Mother Abbess to be cast somewhat older. But it's not that big a deal.
+AvalonMorley I saw the play 2 days ago, and Ashley Brown nailed the role of Mother Abbess. Her performance of Climb Every Mountain was one of the best performances I have ever seen live, dare I say even more awe inspiring than the film version.
+Robin Mendoza I Love Sound of Music and Mary Poppins I can say Supercalifragilisticexpialidicious backwards and I can spell it backwards I love Julie Andrews so much I went to see Mary Poppins and I met her I started crying I Wish I could have been there with you to watch it I hope it comes to North Carolina when it is on tour

That's great, and not surprising, given Miss Ashley's immense talent. So, did she sing "My Favorite Things" with Maria, or was that sung with the kids? I've been really hoping they'd follow the original script, including having that song between the Abbess and Maria. It helps so much with giving more to her character, and to the relationship between those two. The original creators of this show really knew what they were doing, and as lovely as the movie is, in many ways, it's done a great disservice to the show. Anyway, looking forward to seeing the tour in November.

When I saw it a few days ago there were people around who were like "why do they keep singing?" And was just like " why do you exist?" 😑
Oh lawdie....HALP!
PLEASE tell me they're using the original script and score, with all scenes intact, in their proper places, and without the changes based on the movie (and especially without those Richard Rodgers lyrics~no "Confidence in Me," or "Something Good," please!). At 1:37, Ted Chapin says that no director had wanted to go back to this show (not sure exactly what he means, with all the many productions done for many years, including that fairly admired Broadway revival and natl. tour, and Sir Andrew's high-profile West End one, with its publicity-creating TV show search for its Maria). But here in N. Texas, we had an absolutely magnificent production a couple of years ago, from Lyric Stage (of which I'm sure Mr. Chapin was aware, as the R&H organization has been working with Lyric for some years now, after being so impressed with their work in researching and recreating original orchestrations and such), sticking absolutely to the original script, score and orchestrations (orchestra of about 40, too) that clarified perfectly why THAT'S the way to do it! And, yes, "An Ordinary Couple" is a perfect, beautiful song for its moment and characters.
From what I've seen, most of the songs are how they were originally. But there is video of a rehearsal for Something Good.
The lyrics for something good were different from the film. There is no I have confidence.

Thanks! I'd read that "Confidence" wasn't in it, and that 's interesting about the lyrics. I hope they're an improvement. I just really prefer "An Ordinary Couple" for that moment, but will open my mind to this new "Something Good."
