Usually in dictatorship, people are told to cry when the dictator dies. In this case, the tears were genuine. They knew that Yugoslavia lost its soul and it was just a matter of time until it fell apart. You could tell his people really loved him

I think it was doomed from the start. Tito never took care of national elements in the CPY and the decenterlized eonomy made it worse. He was a great guy though but I have my criticism for him. Also he was never really socialist in my opinion.

Tito's death marks the day all hell broke loose in Yugoslav politics. He brought up a nation built up on brotherhood and his successors had to go and spit on his grave by becoming hardline nationalists. An ideology Tito himself had despised because of the damage Nationalism can do.

Svi nam nedostajete Tito. Živi Tito.

I´m not almost saying it. I´m saying it. These were counterrevolutions. Manipulated fools looking for “the american dream”. They gave up what they had for a dream. The dream turned out to be a nightmare. Now they´re regretting it bitterly. But many are still to proud to admit it. Because admitting it would mean admitting that they were fools.
You remember Vukovar and Srebrenica. As monuments of nationalist stupidity. I prefer to remember Yugoslavia.

The bigger reason people cried is fear. My family was in Belgrade during his funeral. Immediately after the news that Comrade Tito died, they went to Nis. People thought that someone would immediately invade Yugoslavia because Tito was gone.
    ------------------------------

Tito was always saying political forces from the East and from the West want to destroy Yugoslavia and they did destroy it. but before that they also destroyed the capitalist Yugoslavia by killing first the king Alexander II Karadzordevic. I just hope they can learn the lesson, and sit at the table next time and solve differences through peaceful negotiations.
i do not say that Tito was perfect, but many people cry for the old times, same like they will cry soon for Gaddafy,
