The device shown here has been called a ferrocell. To be clear, it probably does not show the magnetic field lines. Most likely it shows the specular reflection that results from the iron particles aligning to the magnetic field lines (ruclips.net/video/pc9ghVd1rsw/видео.html). This seems like an active area of interest and there may be some value to the ferrocell even if it doesn't necessarily show the magnetic field lines.

Just so anyone can understand: There’s a difference between bending a light ray without a change of medium (n1=n2) as in actively changing a photons path by some force acting on that photon and changing the path of particles with light reflecting on them. Therefore you’re not bending light in the literal sense. The only force that can do that is gravity.

reminded me a physics experiment back from highschool. the setup consisted of a glass sphere with vaccuum inside, as well as a piece of coal in a circuit acting as resistence. over it was a cone with hollow tip, so when the coal was electrified, it generated a beam of light that was actually purely negatively charged. The real show was when two hugeass electromagnets were also powered up, which ultimately curved the beam of light in the vaccuum, bending it all the way into a coil, if my memory didn’t exaggerate the visual in the last 20 years. nice to see you followed up on my recommendation to explore the ferrocell.. for a more permanent device you need optically flat borosilicate glass and make it sealed..
3:50 use “optical glass flats”. You can buy them pre-made at incredible flatness. Then you just need a tiny bit of ferrofluid and an eyedropper of WD-40 smashed between the flats.
Graphite powder for lubricating locks is diamagnetic and will also illustrate magnetic fields when mixed in mineral oil in a bottle or a shallow tray. Conveniently, the flakes are reactive to the magnetic field but do NOT all clump toward the magnet at all.
The magnetic lines did not exist until the mass created them by reacting to the field. USE A FINE WIRE and try to find a single field line. It is not there. The field is homogeneous until a bunch of mass comes in and mucks it up from its reaction to the field. The field lines are an effect of the mass itself.
Greetings my friend! Anyways, here's a personal question out of my curiousity that I would love to bring out to you James, or perhaps everyone for a fun discussion/ consult. So here's my question :- **How far can a magnetic field bend light? Could it be bent enough so that it goes around a three dimensional object and comes out (after going 180 degrees, I guess) the other side, being bent by the magnet, therefore making it seem as though the object had the light bass through it completely, and it does not appear to the human eye? Here is the best example I can give: -->=light, O=Object, *=mag. field, / or \=light bent. **___** |***| If this can be done, please tell --->/*O*\---> me how, and what would be needed to perform such a thing. ( PS - This would need to be done in a round sense, as in all around the 3-d object, not in just one line, so kindly please keep that in consideration. Also, if anyone know any other way to get the desired effect please feel free to comment or reply me here, CHEERS! )** Wishing everyone good health and may that divine bliss and perfect happiness follow every single beautiful souls here bring endless joy and fulfillment for the rest of your life. Blessed Be. AN'ANASHA!✨❤🌈
That is very nice visualisation. I guess the intensity of the field could be approximated by measuring the size of the magnetic field arc produced by the magnet and then comparing it with the magnetometer reading. The bigger the arc produced the higher the intensity at the source? I wonder how accurate such approximation would be...
Yes I also did Something super cool. I crushed a magnet into fine powder. It automatically aligns itself with the magnetic field of the permanent magnet. Maybe you should take a look. It is a short.
@@B.V.Luminous Naaah. The RUclipsr you sent says "Make sure the south side of the magnet is facing Up when you germinate your seeds over it." Not hardly. Action Lab has a REAL scientist.

I think its pretty significant that magnets can hold up more weight than the size of the magnet itself simply because it loops though every piece it attracts.

I have to say, you literally inspired me to think of fusion in a different way. At least with magnetic fields and just using size, scale, speed, and stepping it up with a mechanical advantage (gearbox)
Finally another channel talks about these!! I have two and they are AWESOME!
This is an outstanding demo. Never saw magnetic field lines this clearly.
Just subscribed because my 4 year old loves watching your videos
5:07 thanks, that's useful for finding shite before drilling , except for that plastic crap ducts, but hopefully with strong magnet, I can find the copper wires
Thank Goddd. A video of this subject not made by Theoria Apophasis.
Very cool experiment
5:36 You can visualize the magnetic field lines with the aid of an old CRT tv screen. The screen will show the magnetic field from quite a distance and the lines will be colorful.
This is the best channel ever.. ever since I saw your vid on Facebook I started foloowin you wherever I can find you.. you always blow my mind with these amazing experiments
super cool, it would be interesting to see the magnetic lines in a picture of single magnets, example, take a picture with only the cilynder, a picture with only an sphecial magnet, etc. Thanks for sharing, awesome work.
look for Theoria Apopahsis he did loots of video on the ferrocell
DUDE!! You made my jaw drop with that light setup.
Best magnetic field visualisation ever!
That's the most amazing video on magnetism I have ever seen
That's the most amazing video from you. Love your contents. Keep teaching us new stuffs like these.
nice to see you followed up on my recommendation to explore the ferrocell.. for a more permanent device you need optically flat borosilicate glass and make it sealed..
This guy never run out of ideas
Awesome job on this video. Great way to present magnetic fields
This should be a practical in schools when learning magnetism.
Just looking at those magnetic field lines is soo damnn satisfying
3:50 use “optical glass flats”. You can buy them pre-made at incredible flatness. Then you just need a tiny bit of ferrofluid and an eyedropper of WD-40 smashed between the flats.
Visualization of magnetic field is really awesome
Genuinely one of the coolest things I've seen!
No matter how old you get, magnets are always magical
3:29 that music was EPIC
Your videos lately have been really great. Keep up the good work.
Man you just keep nailing it! Nice work sir!
That last little hard about finding nails in the wall would make a great stud finder!
Whoa! That looks really cool. Would like to see this with magnetic breaking. Might need slo-mo, though.
Now what I wanna know is where I can get this shirt. It's awesome
Hey action lab congratulations for 3.2 M subscribers.😀😀😀
Graphite powder for lubricating locks is diamagnetic and will also illustrate magnetic fields when mixed in mineral oil in a bottle or a shallow tray. Conveniently, the flakes are reactive to the magnetic field but do NOT all clump toward the magnet at all.
The magnetic lines did not exist until the mass created them by reacting to the field. USE A FINE WIRE and try to find a single field line. It is not there. The field is homogeneous until a bunch of mass comes in and mucks it up from its reaction to the field. The field lines are an effect of the mass itself.
Outstanding! I will be trying the ferrofluid trick!
Thank you so much for this path light demo
Thanks for telling us modern way to verify magnetic field lines
Greetings my friend! First of all, I want to salute you that indeed, such amazing job and wonderful experiment you've had carried out here and am sure this very short yet powerful clip does finally solved a long-standing doubt and a straight solid answer to the point which has been much disputed among the scientific research field, Bravo! Anyways, here's a personal question out of my curiousity that I would love to bring out to you James, or perhaps everyone for a fun discussion/ consult. So here's my question :-
**How far can a magnetic field bend light? Also, if anyone know any other way to get the desired effect please feel free to comment or reply me here, CHEERS! )**
Wishing everyone good health and may that divine bliss and perfect happiness follow every single beautiful souls here bring endless joy and fulfillment for the rest of your life.
You are getting better and better in explaining stuff, nice work man!
Edit: and the experiments are amazing.
Wow the light one was very cool
Yes I also did Something super cool. I crushed a magnet into fine powder. It automatically aligns itself with the magnetic field of the permanent magnet. Maybe you should take a look. It is a short.
This is his one of the COOLEST videos ever!!!! 🔥🔥
amazing stuff! Love the "nail finder"
Your demonstrations exceed any other channel I have found, in showing the deeper physics of things.

@@B.V.Luminous Naaah. The RUclipsr you sent says "Make sure the south side of the magnet is facing Up when you germinate your seeds over it." Not hardly.
Action Lab has a REAL scientist.
Super cool video! It would be interesting to see what the ferrofluid alignments look like when you try to touch the same sides of magnets together, like N to N, or S to S? and maybe see how the magnetic lock works on it too (the one you had in a previous video that can turn on an off by turning the alignment of two magnets together)
I would love to see that as well! Great idea!
I love your videos, your child like enthusiasm brings me back to my childhood. And the wonders of science so thank you
Honestly, best video yet :)
One of the cool stuff you made this year so far.
❤️ from 🇧🇼 Botswana
Incredible! Very cool experiment.
I think its pretty significant that magnets can hold up more weight than the size of the magnet itself simply because it loops though every piece it attracts.
Excellent. It might help us if you would show the north and south pole lines carefully and slowly to us without just moving the magnets.
0:23 Steel pennies? It's even more illegal than Vsauce Michael's "Penny from 2027"!!
