The construction site accident which killed Tan Jing's father left him impotent due to injuries, so he keeps the kid to his heart, as he knows he can't have his own kids. He's a drunkard and hyper by nature and often lands himself and Tan Jing in troubles, but he adores the kid more than anything. Also, when Tan Jing was left alone and pregnant after her parents died, he helped her at every step of her pregnancy and even helped her raise the kid.
