When I was a kid in the early 60s, I would race home after church to watch Johnny Weissmuller as Tarzan on our black and white tv...great adventures back in the day..
Sept 28, 2019 I'm75 and still finding a lot of the Silver screen movies Over 80yrs ago. I've seen all the Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan movies and his Jungle Jim movies. As old and hammed up as they were. They're still great entertainment // Glen Morris was a big healthy man. If you enjoy old, you'll love this Movie
We'll leave in the cool of the afternoon! God!! I love these movies!! No wonder I'm so screwed up !!! Like finding out that iconic bird call in the jungle was actually a kooka burrs....an Australian bird!!
I totally missed all the suggestive stuff as a kid. They just slid it right by the censors. Pretty slick. When I was a kid I was just interested in the animals and the action sequences. That's still what I'm enjoying watching this flick, but I get what I missed then. Now I understand why my older brothers weren't seeing the same movie I was!
I love Weissmuller as Tarzan, especially in Tarzan and His Mate, and Maureen O'Sullivan is my favorite Jane. But my favorite Tarzan movie is Greystoke.
YEAH! YEAH!! NO ONE DID IT BETTET 4 MY PART, FROM THA HEART, BUT JOHNNY WEISMILLER, WAS, & STLL IZ.....A SHOW-NUFF THRILLER!!!!! I GREW UP FROM 1963, WATCHING TARZAN!, HE WAS THE FIRST.TARZAN BEST ACTOR & THA LAST......
My dad tells my mother I was named John (just John, but that’s a story for another time) after my great grandfather. Truth be told I’m named after an Olympic swimmer and actor. Rest In Peace Johnny.
LOL..LOL..Tarzan wrestles a lion with razor sharp bone-crushing claws and doesn't even get a scratch on him. That Tarzan just keeps all the dermatologists in the jungle unemployed.
Weissmuller was also Canadian and an olympic champion. All in all 'Cheeta' was the headliner star with reported 42 films and t.v. including Tazan films. "'Cheeta, a female chimpanzee born about 1948 owned by Ed Rogers, is stated to have appeared in 42 films, including Tarzan films as Cheeta and the television program Truth or Consequences as Beaulah."" bet she directed better than the directors because she didn't have to remember her lines. lol
Love this stuff watch it while you're napping reclining on a Sunday or Saturday afternoon when you should be working so relaxing sure wish they would have done more naked swimming scenes
Great fun, but the elephants are Indian elephants and the big cat was a jaguar, from South America and aren't Tarzan's adventures generally jungle adventures?
At the beginning it's said. that the film is based on an Edgard Rice Burroughs' novel ,but I read all Tarzan novels and there is no one named Tarzan's revenge, or having a plot similar to this movie
Loved watching Tarzan kind of felt like Steve Martin at the end of the jerk all I needed was Jane a chimp alion and croc to wrestle every now and then some vines a elephant for a car and a paddle all oh bout forgot loin cloth

When tarzan cuts down the rope bridge at the end and the bad guys fall into the water below. You see a crocodile and someone struggling in a fight with it. It is footage taken from another tarzan movie called tarzan the fearless. The footage is of tarzan fighting a crocodile in that movie.
Though neither Morris or Holm became stars the officer at 4:22 did. The next yearGordon Elliott would make The Great Adventures Of Wild Bill Hickok & become one of the great western stars
Alfalfa (from the Our Gang comedies): "Who's stronger?.. Tarzan or Flash Gordon?" (Answer: Tarzan. You'd have to be insanely strong to out-wrestle gorillas, alligators, and jungle cats. Oh, and trigger-happy white men with guns.)
Actually, he was the 3rd actor to play Tarzan. His inability to memorize his lines led to the stupid “me Tarzan” scripts that were not faithful to the books. He did have the best Tarzan yell though.

In the books Tarzan's yell is described as the cry of an ape and that's what it is in the movie Greystoke. Weissmuller yodels instead and I've always been fine with that. But I don't like this Tarzan's call.
This was pretty good, though not quite as racy as the best known Tarzan and Jane. African lions are not really thick jungle big cats. They inhabit savannah regions. The Giant Anteater is strictly South American, along with that big McCaw. Stuff like that was pretty much true of the Weissmuller Tarzan movies, also. Not a big deal, just interesting to me, anyway.
Johnny had the best yell. Even with his cave man vocabulary, He still had better language than today. Many all they got is mf,gd,f this or that. Sickening and ignorant.

In the books he finds a hunting knife in his parents cabin and it explains he uses it to cut his hair and shave like the men he saw in picture books. Tarzan of the apes by edgar rice burroughs is one of the most realistic depections of tarzan.

This Tarzan entry gets a lot of flack for not being up to par with the Weissmuller films, but it's really not bad for what it is.

Only checking this film out because Speilberg and Lucas said that this film inspired them to go on and create the Indiana Jones movies.

What do so many Asian elephants do in Africa???

On vacation.
Asian elephants are a lot more intelligent lot easier to work with that's why they chose to use them in the movies

African elephants are not easily be trained and they can be dangerous too.

Volume is too low. (No, there's nothing wrong with my hearing!)
The movie was made in 1920, mind you. Guess they wanted to keep the authenticity

Did anyone know that while swinging though the trees he only had four rops in use.
Ropes not rops
My guess is the 4 ropes make it safer. If I was the stunt double. I would want to minimize chances of getting hurt.
Asian elephants not African?? Maybe the asian elephants were on vacation
Asian elephants are smaller so they're easier to handle
passports were checked ??
Due to handling and availability. African ones are too dangerous in this way
