Just one more thing I wanted to point out that we all missed. When the Chaplain shoots the DG who tried to shot Kazarion and he dodged, Raphael actually shoots his entire hand off, along with his gun. By the time Kazarion cuts off his other arm, that DG was already disarmed once, and now twice. Bloke can't get a break :^))

Well you cant really compare it, can you. Totally different Art Style and Story telling.
Angels of Death was made from the Guy that made Helsreach. He got a Deal with GW as we all know.
So i think its also very very Good both of them. Helsreach Style was, cause that Guy was a Newbie to Animations etc. He kept his Artstyle although improved with a Team on Angels of Death. Its just plain different than Astartes and has definetly its Charm!
Astartes was single minded on Visuals and Sound. Not much of Story telling compared when it comes to Voicelines. It plays with your imaginaion. Although a Masterpiece, of course ^^

This is true, but the shot-callers and bean counters at GW will never do that. They want fans to praise "Games Workshop animations" as opposed to any individual animator. Also there's a substantial amount of malicious greed involved. They want to be the only ones making money on 40k, even if it means that they will make less overall, as long as only GW gets paid from 40K. Their animators get a low budget and a tight deadline as opposed to huge bonuses and public praise. This is why I can never spend another cent on WH40k, unless they revert their bullshit, let the fans do their thing, and pay the animators more than they'd possibly make on Patreon. It is sad cause the above animation is great and Id love to watch it all.

There is a trick to it, but once the Black Rage is engaged, psyker powers, Warp curses, plagues and other nasty events cannot take effect anymore. The spirit of the Space Marine is replaced by the Angel, and nothing else can enter it that place. The Space Marines become unstoppable rage engines, which sometimes left entire Imperial worlds empty of life, be they enemies, civilians or Guards, and a sea of blood in their wake.

I think there is a note of something not really recognised here that the Chaplain seemingly well knew the sergeant had fallen to the rage and that his abandonment of their mortal allies wasn't truly to save a fellow marine's life but to protect his honour and hide the butchery of loyal Imperials from the record. It's something parts of the community can often mask or overlook because they enjoy their cool heroes but I like that some of these series are including more of these aspects.
That the Imperial forces are often cruel beyond necessity and it is so common for even their most 'noblest' of members to focus on selfish personal goals or those of an order over the protection of the innocent, the duties they are charged with and even the very survival of the Imperium. From the sacrificing of other astartes chapters to satisfy battle calculations by the Iron Hands to the abandonment of entire campaigns to chase the Fallen by the Dark Angels, it is a faction rife with interesting flaws that should be focussed on. There's a sense that Chaos is so wholly corrupting, and that is why there are so many rebellions but the more interesting truth to me is that Imperial life is so unendingly poor that any citizen would rightfully take the first opportunity offered to seek better conditions.
I do really miss that about the writing as there has been a trend to make the Imperium more wholly heroic.

    • @andrew3203

It is entirely lore-accurate. Promethium mass-deflagration has been used many times in 40k books as a means to dispose of overwhelming numbers of enemies, or as miles-long jets of terrible fire-melting streams pumped from deep reservoirs as ad-hoc (or not) long range flamers.

Hey Devil. Did you notice that Kazarion and the Chaplain bounded across the bridge and kept talking guns?
Watching it at first, it seemed like movement across the linear hazard (bridge) was slow and put them in the Death Guard's sector of fire for too long. But then again... Astartes can probably tank plenty of rounds in that armor, so short, quick successive bounds might be a viable SOP.
Also, IIRC the creator of Helsreach and Angels of Death is a former Canadian Soldier - so this addition of Small Unit Tactics with an Astartes flavor is a nice touch.

In fact Raphael acts as his Primarch. It was Horus who discovered the curse of black rage when he overheard Sanguinus delivering the deathblow to one of his children. Sanguinus begged him not to say anything. He probably feared to suffer the fate of the II and XI legions. That's how this episode sends us back to 40k lore. Blood Angels and Dark Angels will do anything to cover up their secrets...

The black rage is the psychic wound that affected all blood angels when Sanguinius died. He was a highly psychic primarch, and Horus used immense psychic torture on him both in the run up to and during their battle.

    • @reddeath4806

@@ironduke5058 The Red Thirst is really similar to the Black Rage in that when a Blood Angel goes over the edge, there's almost no chance of coming back, they'll be formed into a Death Company or locked away forever. The difference is that there's a way to stave off the Thirst, via drinking blood. Another difference is that when one succumbs to the Red Thirst, instead of raving on about being Sanguinius and everyone around you being Horus, you instead pretty much turn into a vampire whose only thought is drinking blood of your enemies.

The animation of this is a lot more smooth and crisp, and a lot less stiff and clunky. I know it's difficult to accurately depict how quick and smooth an astartes can move, but this definitely got closer. If I had one criticism of this, it's they don't get right how a space marine charges. Instead of running like how you or I would to charge charge someone, they do an odd skip-push, where they push down on the ground with one leg to propel themselves forward, then do so with the other leg, which allows them to quickly and forcefully cover a lot of ground to get to their target, similar to how a sprinter comes out of the starting blocks.

I think my favorite part was seeing Chaplain Rafael again, he was just one of my favorite characters from the other Blood Angels series, aside from Ancaeus and Kazarion. I think the other thing I loved the most was seeing their faces. Kazarion does look really young here and it makes me wonder if Orpheo is still a Sergeant or Lieutenant. I remember seeing Kazarions face when he entered the chapel before leaving to serve with the death watch and how he didn’t have any scars on his face but seeing this is just amazing and it was awesome to see Rafaels face too. It honestly makes me wonder how long Kazarion has been a Space Marine. I’m hoping we get to see more episodes like this and other characters like Tiro and Ancaeus. Freaking amazing job man!! Interesting to think about how power armor changes infantry combat. If you're in a suit of it, you are as much a walking tank as an infantryman. So here they are doing a break contact drill not unlike what real world infantry might execute in this situation, but an equally viable option would have been to stay in a line and just slowly move rearwards while shooting, because their armor can probably take the hits while putting out a higher volume of fire at the same time

  • @neilstackhouse4488

Totally agreed! I think this is the best animation GW has done to date! Just the amount of reality stitched into every scene is truly inspiring! I did have THE TINIEST of niggles with the moment at the end where Raphael took his helmet off, though. There is a reason why chaplains helms are different from the standard battle brother's. They are expected to become MORE than human, even in the eyes of their fellow Astartes. It's something that is imperative to their roles as spiritual leaders. As a result, its actually a rule that chaplains are not allowed to remove their helmets unless they are only in the company of other chaplains or captains. Anyone below that rank needs to see them as this literal embodiment of death! There is a bit of me that can excuse it, though, because in the main series, they established that Raphael has been with Kazarion even before he was a neophyte. So it's very possible that he broke protocol with Kazarion but wouldn't have with any other marine.

Just a note, the Black Rage is not a result of the Red Thirst. The Red Thirst is a separate gene flaw, and in fact the one the Blood Angels want to keep hidden from the Imperium at large, as unlike the relative honor of the Black Rage (from the psychic backlash of their Primarch's death), the Red Thirst had always been there, and thus a source of shame (and potential for blamming due to being a harmful mutation).

I’ve been a fan of Warhammer, both types, since I was a 17 year old college freshman, and was introduced to the Warhammer 40k universe by Space Hulk, the board game (I got the computer version when it came out, a bit later). From there, my friends and I got into the world of miniature wargaming, and had some truly epic battles, with improvised terrain features, sometimes on a pool table, other times a large dining room table, and for the largest battles, on the carpeted floors, in the largest rooms we had access to. Even now, at 51, I still look back at those days as some of the best times my friends and I ever had. I am so happy to see that the game has grown in popularity, and that it has successfully made the transition to animation, and soon, with Henry Cavill, live action. He is one of us, and I have no doubt that he will do everything possible to stay true to the source material. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for making these videos. Through your efforts, a whole new generation, that might have been daunted by the sheer volume of information, gets an easy to understand, enjoyable, but still educational, introduction to the 40k universe, without missing any of the finer points. Keep up the great work, and I’ll see you in the next video.
