7:02 Many (dedicated & life-long) Nikon shooters would debate that 😂 Tho I'll concede that Nikon & Canon BOTH are very impressive in the ruggedness of their gear. I guess only Sony shooters would hold/see the Z8 & remark on it being "too big/massive" lol I think the Z8 would be the answer for all the issues/complaints you have about Sony. But yeah, Z7ii would be the next best just for landscape/seascapes etc. I think the adapter matters as well. If I got an ETZ adapter, I'd get the Megadap ETZ21 PRO adapter. A note abt the Nikon Z mirrorless, as it pertains to ASTRO. I've found the sensor is alot more sensitive (more than most brands) to H-alpha & "blue reflection nebula" colors, so if you properly track &/or stack images, your astro shots will be on a whole new level 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 having to astro mod your camera.
Nice video, but you seem to be overlooking one crucial detail: you give up weather sealing when using one of those Sony to Z mount lens adapters. They don't have any sealing. You don't want salt water getting to your sensor.
Valid point! Ive got the atoll on the setup that seems to shield the adapter pretty well but water goes wherever it wants to… well see if i run into any issues with it… if that becomes an issue i gotta commit to 1 system to seal everything up i guess🙄
Hi Spencer, you should try the timelapse function on the Z7 II. Nikon Z cameras have the best timelapse functions on the market: you can put all the timelaspe files in a separate folder, you can do holy grail in P mode or A mode, you can set a starting time for example you can set it to start at 4:00AM but you don't need to be around. Sony cameras can't do this. Also the camera can create a 4K timelapse video in camera along with all the RAW files. You can do bracketing timelapse which other manufacturers don't offer. The weather sealing is reliable. My Z7II fell twice on the rock and all functions retained. Once I was hiking when drizzling , I had it on a PK design clip. the viewfinder was pooling for two hours and the moisture never got inside. But in a similar situation, the viewfinder of my Fuji X-T3 fogged up. My dislikes about the Z7 II: grip rubber sticky, battery door easily bumped open, hard to use the screen when vertical especially low angle, slow autofocus, noisy screen in low light. But overall, it is a great camera for landscape. I hike a lot and always want to save weight so recently bought an A7CR. But after a few hundred pics taken, it sometimes won't boot up. The red led flashes in this case. I have to remove the battery and put it back again. The camera will work. But it's so annoying. I suspect it is a bug in the firmware. Sony releases new products a lot more frequently than Canon or Nikon which I suspect they haven't done enough tests. I use the Megadap adaptor as well. When it works it's fine but I've had two adaptors failed for no reason. Luckily they were under warranty but I was told not to hot swap lenses. Now the Pro version is available and hopefully it will solve the problem.
Pretty sure he mentioned he's using the NEEWER brand ETZ adapter. Not any of the Megadap ones. Tho, I too, suspect the Megadap ETZ21 PRO adapter would be the overall top choice if using an E-TO-Z adapter.
thanks for your feedback! if u have a chance, please view my latest video on astro where I ran into some issues with the timelapse function on the nikon (at least when it compares to sony)... any feedback would be greatly appreciated! in terms of the a7cr, im thinking that these small sony bodies are probably less weather sealed and I wouldn't recommend them for serious nature photography, im still gonna hang onto my a7cii just because of how compact it is, its super easy to carry around timelapse body
if I ever commit to full nikon z setup, ill give that megadap a try... but I got the neewer cause it was cheaper and my friend who shoots the z8 says it works fine for what he needs
Some nice images there. . . regardless of camera brand. In saying that, do you find the Sony sunset yellows & oranges to be too yellow / blue vs Nikon which tend to be more orange? Even with my Nikon gear, I still need to adjust the yellows and oranges to a warmer hue to match what my eyes sees. . . or maybe I just have funny eyes 🙂
great vid. I've been shooting with my Nikon Z7 for 3 years. Hell of a camera for landscape/seascapes. ISO 64 is also nice. Please don't ever shoot with your back to the ocean like you were doing. Testing weather sealing with sea water is a little tough. Yes, the Nikon will be better than the Sony, but I wouldn't want to get sea water on my camera as a test. If you must, why not just use your hands and splash some sea water on your camera?
probably not the smartest of ideas... but got the shot right? probs could've just splashed some water, but I figured that if im gonna test it, I better at least get a shot in the process
I was looking at the z6iii as maybe a possible replacement vlog/timelapse camera until i saw the dynamic range issues from that partially stacked sensor… they gotta fix that first

All great points! Seriously thinking about that z8, especially after testing the z7ii for astro!

I made sure i shot them at the same exact white balance so i didnt notice that i needed to adjust the colors too much

Why not the Z6III? It's even smaller than the Z7.
for landscape the Z7 II should be better. more dynamic range I think and the Z6 III is bigger than the Z7ii

@@spencerlee808 Yeah, fair enough. It was a disappointment for me too at only 24 megapickles.
Buy a used A7RII! Very affordable now! 🤙
haha if I use an a7riii for seascapes im definitely gonna break it lol
