Just a small tips. Am highly recommend doing negative rep thay will help you a lot.
Feeling pain in you rist is normal. 1 exercise that help me a lot with my hand stand was doing handstand in the wall but your head need to face the wall. Try to touch the wall with only one feet. After you feel more comfortable try to do with out the wall.

One last stupid facts calisthenics is actually a Greek word. Meaning kalos sthenos (καλός σθένος). Means a beautiful body or strong body

Hey Ian, sore wrists are just from pressing weight onto them at an angle they're not strong in. You can strengthen the tendons by doing wrist curls or other forearm strength exercises. Also doing what your doing now (handstand press ups) will strengthen them over time but you can injury them if you push too hard without doing additional training for wrist strength
Great advice but I'd add that sometimes mobility is a problem too. Stretching can help a great deal

Already seeing a lot of comments on the wrist pain, but no one has mentioned to warm up the wrists.
Just doing some wrist rotations to allow blood flow and then followed by some planche leans will really help to prevent any wrist pain and injuries
any exercise involving hanging on a pull up bar helps strengthen your wrists, and i find deadhangs to be really good. I had trouble with wrist pain when I did a lot of pushups or similar activities where i put a lot of weight on my hands and wrists, and deadhangs helped me so much I dont feel any wristpain anymore

Ian, you should pick up a GripMaster. As a musician, I've used one for decades.
Muscles stengthten a lot faster than joints, so when you switch from normal or inclined push ups to hand stand push ups your wrists might hurt. There's really not much you can do other than train without straining them too much until they strengthen too. This happens when people which from knee push ups to normal push ups too.

I’ve been doing callisthenics for a while now and have had the same issue with my wrists hurting after doing push ups.
The solution is doing wrist extensions. Basically you should sit on the ground with your knees and hands down and turn your hands facing behind you. Then you slowly move backwards while maintaining that posture. Slowly stretch your wrists like that and keep going back and forth until you feel like they are stretched enough. No more wrist pain if you do pushups after.
I recently unlocked the back lever, been doing muscle ups and handstand hold for a while now.
For good wrist health and mobility stretching really helps, and strengthening in less stressing progressions of the handstand. First progression is using your other hand to find stretch, then put your hands on the ground and put bodyweight on it to your level. Don't forget to also do the negative, so the other way.
For handstand specifically you could throw in some circles while leaning on your hands so all positions are strong. (Pike) pushups and planking leaning over your hands are also a great exercises for the wrists.

I've been doing calisthenics for 2 years now. I have mastered the basics of calisthenics and can even do handstand pushups and even front levers. For me, the best way to build crazy strong wrists was doing negative reps, long dead hangs, and finger diamond push ups (if it is comfortable for you). I would recommend also doing handstands with wall support (facing the wall). Hope I was helpful; love ur vids.
Sup Ian! I do calisthenics as well and you should do wrist mobility stretches before doing handstands or anything that is intense on the wrists!

Love calisthenics. Wrist pain in handstands means your hands aren’t arched. Mimic the arch in your foot in your hands when doing handstands and should help. Personally front and back levers are my fav
You can strengthen your wrists for handstands by strengthening your forearms and hands. Doing forearm curls and squeezing those weight clips can help.
Wrist pain is pretty normal, you should put some pressure on your fingertips when you work on the ground like push-ups and grip the bar tighter when you do muscle-ups. It helped train both my grip strength and my forearm stiffness. Try doing slow muscle-ups with alot of focus on your back posture, you don't realise it but your entire body's posture is involved when doing callesthenics becase you don't have the privilege of being able to use weights thats were molded for a human hand aswell as for grip. This can actually cut off blood flow in the long term if you don't balance your grip. If it's still sore after a month from now I wouldnt suggest doing callesthenics as hardcore as you are yet. I swapped the ram rider for skele barrel and zap for tornado. Been finding alot more success. Especially against pekka e wiz
If your wrist hurts try to do better warmup and i recommend to buy wrist wraps for calisthenics they helping realy good

I think your wrists just have to get used to the handstand. Once the muscles develop in your hands, arms, and shoulders, you'll be good

train grip strength i can do 9 muscle ups but you have to better your grip strength most people have the strength to do a muscle up but they just have no grip strength
