    Used to hate even a though of driving MB,but my company requires only MB so for two years been driving E220d as a chauffeur car,done around 80k,can say that never had unpleasant morning surprise,very dependable.
    More than few times after hitting london craters thought that it will be end of tyres,rims,suspension but apparently as long as you have up to 18's and don't overinflate you can keep on driving no matter what.
    Did rear end at 10 mph peugeot that moved off and suddenly stopped,got just few scratches in compare of half end gone for frenchy.
    Bigger screen with sat nav works as kaleidoscope for customers and everyone seems to find comfortable position whenever they are in the back or front.
    Overall would highly recommend to anyone, it's frugal,comfortable,pleasant to drive,quite fast,robust vehicle that really grew on me.

      @@CanyonsCarver avoid the E300de
      Although it's +300hp and +700nm it's jerky in compare to 220d,heavier by 400kg and hybrid system really dislikes long traffic jams in more than +25°c,it overheats and goes nuts so you have to run it in sport setting because only then working engine cools down the whole system,that chews our economy really badly.
      But still,the worst contradiction in a car that have to save your money is 275 tyres,it's pointless, because even that width can't cope with that much torque and you end up changing tyres like every weekend you go for drift runs with friends

    Their sales team aren’t fully aware of the car mechanical in and outs they won’t tell you everything because they are just concerned about getting their commission.

    Tbh I would never buy a newer Mercedes second hand. I’ve leased 4 Mercedes since 2014, 3 c classes and 1 GLC coupe going back next month, they are great cars NEW but they have a lot of issues, thankfully warranty is covered, plus all these cars are ruined and driven hard by people and company car drivers like me lol. All mine were diesel and premium plus and 2 with air suspension. One time the c220d gearbox wouldn’t go into any gear on the day it was going back and went back to Mercedes to have a lot and expensive work done. My GLC coupe has a lot of juddering and won’t be fixed lol. Just lease them new they are cheap (if u get a good price) Get premium of premium plus and u won’t look back. However you would get them for a steal second hand as the depreciation is so bad lol. Beware of parts cost and inefficient engines and noise.

      I bought a new e class in 2017 - same model as this e 220 d with options - (full digital dashboard- metallic blue paint and a upgraded stereo) - a little over £40K - hence the expensive car tax of £465. Current trade value of car after 3 years and 35000 miles - £17500.
      Also service costs before 3 years include full set of brake discs and pads for £1000 from merc main dealers. Expensive to run but a cracking car if you love big depreciation German cars. One big lesson learned.

    I had one of these as a courtesy car while my Audi was being repaired, and I was quite impressed. Nothing astonishing, but a economical, comfortable daily driver with good tech.
    The E220d I drove felt underpowered, but it was more than happy cruising once you got up to speed and I thought the engine was quite refined for a diesel (and I wouldn’t touch a diesel personally, although I drive 30k miles a year)
    9 speed gearbox was very nice too, originally I thought it would drive me crazy constantly changing ratios, but the drive was seamless.

    Well yes an approved used Merc is a safer option but their guarantee is worryingly limited and doesn't cover (amongst other important things) electrics or body issues. So if for example, your windows cease to seal on closing after a month, then you have to pay Mercedes £135 to find out if their insurers will cover the repair under guarantee. Now that's quite a risk because it's a fiddly repair and can cost a lot in expensive labour if they turn you down. Sadly my experience of this quickly dulled my love affair with the car. Also, don't expect the transaction at the dealer to be quick. My purchase took hours... even had to go out for lunch while they sorted paperwork.

    • @Fireman9ify

      Mercedes used to be a quality product with the best engineering possible, not any more. My 2018 e class needs an engine out job with a new brake servo, vacum pump, oil pump, of course it couldn't be a warranty issue as the car has sone 38,000 miles. The car was bought 6 months old and serviced every 10,000 miles, the merc specialist that works at my car is trying to get the work approved for a second time under warranty, other than that it's 2200 + vat. I needed a new jeep so I bought a trusty landcruiser, wouldn't even consider a mercedes as I want reliability

    • @henrybenrycat1
      @henrybenrycat1 2 года назад +1

      @@Fireman9ify , trouble is, we can't buy the past new: we have to buy what's available today. And Mercs are prestigious and beautiful even if they aren't made the way they were. Surely what we are seeing here with Merc is no different to many another high end brand: trading on past reputation. Just look at say Aga cookers - once built like a tank but today you can buy a tinny Rangemaster that would in the past have a mainstream brand on it but is now branded Aga. So Mick, what you say is so true but in reality is just a consequence of ubiquitous 21st century business thinking.

    • @Fireman9ify
      @Fireman9ify 2 года назад

      David, I agree with what your saying. I have a 2018 w213 that I bought 6 months old from a mercedes dealer. December 2021 I take the car in for a service, which I generally do every 10,000 miles. I go to a merc specialist because he is brilliant. He came out to me and apologised, he said although the car only has 38,000 miles to fix it correctly its an engine out job, oil pump, vacum pump, brake servo etc, he said although it was a know fault mercedes would not replace all the required parts and it was a minimum of 2200 + vat for the repair. He put in a claim but they wouldn't cover all the work. He is going to try again to get the work covered under warranty. Apparently the brake fluid becomes contaminated which will eventually damage the braking system. Probably my last mercedes, I bought them over the years as their engineering was outstanding, very disappointed in the brand,. I needed a 4 by 4 so I bought a new landcruiser, wouldn't even consider a mercedes anymore.

      Wow what a story..... Mercedes should be embarrassed by their Reliability issues but it seems like they don't care ! These complaints have been known for more than 10 years ! It's mainly this ridiculous insistence on jamming so much technology and electronics into their cars !

    They aren’t as comfortable as you might think, overly firm ride, you feel all the bumps in the road, those you can’t even see and the seats are too firm and not sculpted for good seating posture.
    Mine has the agile suspension (which I think is a trick valve in the damper), it’s not great, the car skips over mid corner bumps and at times (on British roads I guess!) doesn’t have some travel on extension, it’s noisy. My previous car.
    Build quality is good but surfaces are ‘hollow’ so beyond looking really good they don’t quite have the tactile feel you’d be expecting...
    In car tech is ‘almost excellent’, it’s a touch slow at times and the radio presets don’t swipe in the order you have preset them, and that is really irksome!
    Had mine two months now and this my conclusion already!! My previous daily, a Lexus was a more comfortable and quieter ride but the tech wasn’t as snazzy as the Merc and believe it or, my Lotus was more comfortable!!

    Hi everyone. I already was own 2 Lexus models ( 1 - 2011 LS600HL with RSR pack , 2 - 2017 NX300H luxury ) . Bolth has some issues unacceptable to that name .... !!!! Now i own a 2017 Mercedes E class 350e 2 L petrol plug-in hybrid , 80 ooo miles , wich until today was perfect !!!! ... On the way back from city he didn't allow me to drive with more than 20 mph , without any woorning lights on the dash !! Should i pay 300 £ to a Mercedes dealer just find out what's going on ? Or should buy an Fiat and fixed 10 times in to one year BUT to any "corner garage" ? The times when they build durable and good cars HAS GONE !!

    Reliability will never match a Lexus! I love how reviewers say all German cars are very well built and have great quality but in reality these cars have poor reliability. I rarely see car reviews that mention reliability, the most important part of car ownership especially buying used as in this video. I have never once seen any German car brand top reliability surveys, ever!

    • @leon-lh737flyer5
      @leon-lh737flyer5 4 года назад +2

      Eamonn McDermott That’s just not true, you probably just have experienced exceptions

    • @eamonnmcdermott1939
      @eamonnmcdermott1939 4 года назад +9

      LH737flyer if I had an exception of poor reliability with a German car (Audi A4, 2009 model purchased second hand in 2012} why has there never ever been a German manufacturer with a number one in reliability ratings? Please show me one respected reliability survey where any German brand has been number one. That simply doesn’t happen unless you can prove me wrong, (proof required). The reliability of German cars will never ever match that of Japanese cars. I have never heard of horror stories with Japanese cars but I have with German cars. My family which starts with my parents in 1993 (previously to 1993 had unreliable leaking Fords) have only ever driven Japanese brands except my Audi A4 which was far from reliable, three separate issues on a car that was purchased 3 years old, I’m guessing that you never owned a Japanese car for a long period of time. My brother is driving my mothers 2002 Toyota Corolla and has only had one serpentine belt and one windscreen washer pump replaced from new in 2002 (excluding parts that need scheduled maintenance). As I said previously no premium German car will ever match the reliability of a Lexus. If you believe that German brands are more reliable than a Lexus well then you are deluded!

      Driving a 20 year old Japanese car is boring asf. Some people drive what they enjoy. I love my W213. Others love their Ferraris, do people obsess on the reliability of Ferarri when they buy one? I was well aware of the reliability of German cars vs Japanese cars when I got my E class, but it still what I wanted.

      I own the e class w213 and will have you know that this car is very reliable. Yes had many toyoya cars in the past and been amazing when it comes to reliability. I won't buy another car but a Mercedes. A superb car with reliability to match. I own the e220 amg version. It's fast very comfortable and looks incredible.

      Michael Buckley Most people couldn’t care less about what they drive. I drive a Mazda6 which I love. People who can afford a Ferrari more often have more than just one car and I am sure they don’t care about reliability. Each to their own.

    This is a review of a "new" older MB E class and nothing about should one buy a used MB E Class.
    The generic answer to the title of this video after browsing years of consumer magazines and reviews is probably no - unless you print your own money.

    Not an e220d if you are going to do high miles
    I know of 4 that have had to have camshafts replaced at around 100k miles thankfully under warranty (one is mine)
    Build isn’t as good as previous generation, gearbox like changing gear too often. Terrible road and engine noise. Has to be said though, still way better than any other car on our fleet. Also amazing warranty and service from our local dealer.

The fix isn’t cheap either if it’s not a simple nox sensor ..you’ll be looking at between £1600 to £1900 to repair..don’t believe me do the research before you buy guys. I’ve just been stung shame on you Mercedes inferior parts..with clear sell by failure dates. 100%

    The wheels are too big and ugly for what this car is. This is an E220d, not an E63 or even 53. I’d go for the smaller rims and more comfortable ride, and I’m a ZOOMER.
