DIY Batman Costume: Cape

- Опубликовано: 12 сен 2024
- I had a few requests for various pieces of a DIY Batman costume from Rage On and Diegoneedsselfesteem, (and I also had to get it done because it's going to be my cousin's Halloween costume). It will be based on the Michael Keaton version. This tutorial is for the cape part of the DIY Batman costume and it's very easy to make. If you're on the smaller side, you might not even have to do any sewing, but if you're on the bigger side, you'll probably have to sew two pieces of material together like I did here in order to get the right width. The fake leather material can be found at JoAnn Fabrics (just make sure you bring a coupon for this stuff, since it's in on the pricier side), but you can always replace it with something cheaper if you prefer.
MATERIALS NEEDED:
Fake black leather fabric (prf.hn/l/Plyy0vP) - I used a little over 3 yard for my cousin, but it will depend on your height. Basically you want something as long as your neck-to-ankle measurement, plus 7 inches to account for the neck hole
Scissors
Needle and thread or sewing machine
1 large snap (amzn.to/41a1c7f)

The materials listed above are the products I actually used for this project. I find that people often want to know exactly what I use, so I've started including exact links when I can find them. However, it's simply meant as a guide and you can substitute with whatever comparable brands/products you might have available in your own area. Also some of the links may be affiliate links, which means I may receive a small commission from the company if a sale is made. It doesn't cost you any extra; it's just a simple way to help support my work on this channel. (I just figured, hey, as long as I was posting the links anyway, I might as well make them affiliate links)

I love your cat! That’s such a cat thing to do :)
Batman cape black
HEy I just discovered this today! LOL ! this is actually the only piece missing for my costume! I did the chest piece out of foam and also the boots and gloves! Its going to be my halloween cotume also but we will make a skit with it ! Thanks for doing this easy tutorial!
Cool. I was gonna send ya a message when I had the whole thing finished, since you'd requested it, but looks like you found it anyway. I'll watch for your skit.
I love this channel! So entertaining and very easy ways to build things! Thank you for doing what you're doing :)
Thanks so much, glad you enjoy my vids 😁
The Woodland Elf ah don't mention it 😃 Can't wait to see what you'll do next!
This is perfect if I want to make a PreVis of a Batman fan film!!! Thank you!
Glad you found it helpful 😊 And good luck on what sounds like an upcoming Batman fan film!
Thanks for making the diy Loki costume! I'm making it for comic con
You're welcome, glad you enjoy it
idk if you do it on purpose but that 2010-2014 type of feel on your video makes this seem nostalgic and i love it
As much as I'd like to take credit for it, it kinda happened on its own. The camera I use was made in 2011 I think (and I'll probably just keep using it till it dies, haha), and it gets that "nostalgic" look anytime I try to shoot black fabric. It can't pick it up clearly for whatever reason, so it ends up with an old feel look. Glad you enjoyed the effect though 😊
Thanks I needed this man capes are expensive but this was easy and way less 👍😊🖤
I watched the batman movie and it somehow brought back memories of watching this like 5 years ago.
Cool 😊
Your cat wants to help XD
Lol, yup, my cats always want to help.
Lord of the Bat-ring
Her newer videos have the modifications showing. You can really tell when you watch one of her earlier videos after being used to her newer ones.
Do you prefer the newer style or my earlier style? Just curious, as it helps me to know what people like better.
Your cat is so cute
Thanks. They love to "help" when I'm making costumes 😉
@@Thewoodlandelf sure
Riddler me this
Nice.. I’m surprised that I don’t see more videos like this. So do you make costumes
Yup, I also make costumes. I get a ton of orders this time of year for Halloween.
Your the best tutorialer
Aww, thanks 😊
Hey just saw your channel today, I think you've done a brilliant job! Definitely dropping a like!
Thanks so much 😊
Awesome...
but I liked that cat very much...😁
Ha, yeah, she loves to "help" me make costumes
great....
Batman cape
What is this material and where can you buy it?
You can get it in JoAnn fabrics. I think it's technically a suedecloth, some type of polyester. It's usually over near the alova and other such costume making fabrics.
I’m working on making a Batman cape of my own exactly like the one that Matt Cook provided me and it will be a big huge one as I got me black costume Satin and Plastic sticks to make it Stretch my arms like the wings of a bat
Just some questions:
How expensive is the material?
Did you order it or did you find it in store?
I found locally in JoAnn Fabrics. I don't recall exactly how much it was now, but I think it might have been in the $15 a yard range, so I waited until I had a 50% off coupon to make it more affordable.
The Woodland Elf Oh ok, thank you so much
Could use a bedsheet
@@s.nifrum4580 I actually did use a bedsheet for my first go 😁
Please do 2017 pennywise! It would be so cool!
Sure, I'll add it to my list. It'll be a while before I get to it, 'cause I get a lot of requests, but I'll let you know when I get it posted.
The Woodland Elf omg yessss you are totally awesome!
Can you please do Peter pans dagger?
Sure, I'll add it to my to-do list. It'll be a while before I can get to it, but I'll let you know when I get it posted.
The Woodland Elf Great! Is there any possibility it's going to be done before the 30th of this month? If not could you give me tips on materials?
I wouldn't be able to get to it by the 30th, so here's some tips. Cut the basic blade and handle shape out of cardboard. Cover the handle with clay to give the 3D look and feel. Once it's dry, paint the hilt. Then on the blade, glue a thin strip of cardboard down the center to give it the raise middle. Then wrap some electrical tape all around it, all the way down the blade. That will give you a blade shape with a raised edge. Then if you look in JoAnn Fabrics or Michael's they have that adhesive silver foil that goes in those Cricut machines. Stick that on both sides of the blade and trim it to size. It'll give you a super shiny blade then. If you got any questions, let me know.
Don't know if you still need this or if you already made yours, but I did just post a Peter Pan dagger tutorial if you still need it.
lol...I wonder how many millions of cats are named Froto...mine for one 😅
Ah, a fellow Frodo owner! lol. Yeah, there's probably millions of cats with the name. We named ours Frodo because my mom hated Frodo in LOTR, so we figured by naming the cat Frodo, there'd be one thing named Frodo that she'd have to love 😂
Are you doing making Batman costume.
Yup. The cape is the first part, and then I'll have the rest of it coming in pieces over the next weeks.
Yay time for diy batsuit
I like the movie in 1989
Me too; I was so happy to see that Keaton's Batman will be in the Flash movie! 😊
Are you scrapping the dr strange costume? ????
Oh no, definitely not scrapping Dr. Strange, just taking a little detour. I gotta finish my family costumes in time for Halloween (one of which is Batman), so I'm just posting those while I'm making 'em. When I get them done, I'll head back to finishing Dr. Strange.
The Woodland Elf ooh thnx
Where did you get your materials?
JoAnn Fabrics.
how many yards did you buy??
I used a little over 3 yards on this one.
I have it?
You have what?
Can I interest you in making costumes for a potential project I’m thinking of starting
Possibly, it depends on how soon you'd need it. I get a lot of requests, and some of them are from over a year ago, but your request might already be on my list too, which means I'd get to it faster anyway. What is it?
i never put one in. so you mean your backed-up because of all of the orders? well i am thinking of starting a kind of fan made youtube movie like channel and its kind of hard to find people who design or create costumes
Oh ok, gotcha. So you're looking for actual costumes then, not just a tutorial? Yes, I do make actual costumes for people as well. I'd have to wait until after Halloween before I could do them, as I have a lot of costume to make for people who ordered for Halloween, but if you don't need them before that, then sure, I'd talk more with you about it.
So I'm trying to work out how I'm going to do the cape from "The Batman" movie coming out in 2022 for my pwn suit im making. It looks like the cape is flat at the bottom judging off of the new trailer we got, so I was wondering how i would do that, like getting the measurements and all so it can be flat?
I haven't seen the new trailer yet, but if the cape is similar in shape to this one, other than the bottom, you could do the measurements the same way. The difference being that the "point" length, would be the center of your entire semi-circle. And then just don't add the dips at the bottom; leave it a smooth semi-circle.
Ok so now i go try fly XD
The cape won't actually allow you to fly. It's just fabric.
make another video where you jump from something in it like batman does lol
Not a good idea. Cape does not actually provide flight or gliding capabilities.
@@Thewoodlandelf I meant like a box or something like that, sorry for the misunderstanding lol
Oh, ok, gotcha, LOL. You'd be surprised how many people ask me if these costumes will actually allow them to fly, so I thought that's where this was heading, lol.
The Woodland Elf btw I just subscribed to your channel, keep makin cool videos 👍
Thanks 😊
