  • The CORNO Festival was one of my FAVORITE gigs of the year, yet again. Here’s an amazing piece that has elements of Latin Folk music, Classical, Gospel & Jazz Fusion, all melded into one cohesive sound by a great ensemble. This is how we opened the concert! The audience gave us a standing ovation! That‘s a first that I can remember. • Seriously, listen on headphones or speakers. Really hearing low brass is a must! 😍

    What a cool piece!! Love the arrangement. Adam Rapa killed it too, as per usual.

    Great piece and great playing. Despite the presence of a virtuoso tubist, adding a string bass or an electric bass would give warmth and depth to the bottom register, especially during the trumpet solo accompanied by only keyboard and percussion. Also, I play horn, and the horn sound would be more present with a plexiglass or wood reflecting shield placed behind the horn section. Stan Kenton's horn section used horns with bells facing forward, similar to marching band french horns. A few of those marching horns, made by Kanstul and others, are now for sale on ebay, and I am thinking of getting one for myself to try.

      Either a specific sound, an instrument better built for the part, or both

      That would be a brighter, more biting sound to easier cut through the ensemble. The first trumpet is a LOTUS Lead/Solo 140 model with a 4th valve, and the second horn is a LOTUS Principal C model, which has the same bell materials as our Lead model, but mounted on a C trumpet.

    What's that Bari sax shaped tuba?

    • @Mach1neWashable
      @Mach1neWashable 3 года назад +1

      Looks like just a custom leadpipe. Probably so he can use it with a strap like a sax to reduce fatigue and make it more ergonomic for those moving parts. Smart move.
