I wasn't an X person in the time he was alive (I was around 10 and a half when he passed) but I knew of the mugshot and of his popular shit. That's how big the dude was, you couldn't avoid him OR that mugshot. The mugshot took a whole life of its own aswell, such a dark and haunting picture. To me, jail and rap will never separate, its deeply rooted in the culture. It adds interest, lets be real here.
You white ? Not being discriminatory bro but Rap and jail culture definitely ain’t intertwined with rap culture AT ALL. And you young so I don’t blame how you see shit cause you didn’t get to see a lot of shit but being born in the year 2000 I can say that’s untrue I didn’t notice a lot of rappers being locked up till later in life and still not the majority
To be fair x was only locked up for 6 months, the first six months Pooh was locked up I heard the same free shiesty as I did for x only difference there is time.
The difference is X was a nobody and Pooh shiesty was already big so it wasn’t nothing to find out about. Bro already got the whole world wearing “shiesty” masks. If Pooh was a nobody got locked up then back in blood and should’ve ducked released with Durk it would be more hype than what X got. Everyone would be asking who he was and saying free him too. This guy just hard for X for some reason.
What kept me out of jail was my Uncle Donald. He spent the late 80s all the way up to when I was a Sophomore in high school (2009) locked up because he kept running wild doing dumb shit with the worst kind of degenerates and it caught up with him. I remember drawing him pictures for his cell and I grew up when TCAP, Beyond Scared Straight, and Lockup: RAW were making new episodes. I'm never going to jail or prison unless I am visiting a loved one and it depends heavily on how fucked up the shit they did to get there in first place is.
Mass incarceration is the real issue. Rap itself isn’t the issue. Even if these ppl would’ve chose a diff genre or never partook in music at all there’s a big chance they still would’ve lived basically the same lives. Living in the hood seeing ppl yk in and out of detention centers is common place @ an early age. Rap is a Black dominated genre so it only makes sense that issues that a community faces would show itself in the art they create
thx so much for dis video bro. the game needed dis one. dis shit aint talked about enough. u could lead a couple ninjas to a positive path just off dis video alone🙏🏾
the people are stupid they want "real" rappers and this is the negative outcome idk man for me it's all about the music not about how rappers do crimes, sadly it costs lifes either death or prison, please wake up y'all
Bro in all craziness the reason hip hop/rap and jail go hand and hand is cause there was some sort NDA agreement between each industry around the time gangsta rap was getting popular cause if you look at certain statistics you will see go from 80's crime stats to the 90's which is when gangsta rap was rising and violence was at a all time high and same can be said today new gangsta rap is drill music go look at how many people that wanted be like pac and live that thug life and now you got Correctional officers in the rap game rapping someone elses life to make it seem cool to the youth im pretty sure you don't need to do that much digging too see that rap and jail are connected in a more deeper way but its just my opinion and i read alot of facts and interesting tidbits on this topic.
It's no secret that rappers aren't exactly smart. I mean, it is a form of music that has the lowest barrier to entry, you don't need to know how to play an instrument, sing, write, etc. So of course even the slow learners are going to be able to be rappers. Some rappers end up being victims of their fanbase too in that, if you rap about being a gang member, your fans might egg you on and claim they like you cause you're "real". You being the rapper in that case might play into that facade of being a gang member and might even go as far as to join a gang, just so you can be authentic. It's why if you look into the back stories of alot of these rappers, they grew up nice, even if they came from poverty or the trenches, but yet they rap about being hard and all that, when in reality they aren't. People like 69 are a prime example of what I'm talking about. EDIT: I iniatially typed this out before finishing the video. What I said ended up being covered, one way or another.
Time of the sentence is a big difference, x take 6 month it's way so the hype still was here but poosh take 5 years, to much appens in 5 years it's like Bobby shmurda when he go to jail Chicago drill movement was up but the time he goes to jail a all new generation with all new code came out and all new sound. I mean the time bobby get out lil durk ad the time to flop and made a come-back and get bigger than ever and the carrier of bobby still was on the same point how do you want him to take the time he lost when he's last song was 7 years ago?
After seeing the streamer Kai jokingly did a “jail stream” and people think that’s funny it’s crazy and sad people can say it’s entertaining but ain’t shit funny joking about being in jail niggas are weird nowadays

He was locked up for 7 months, not to mention he was in and out since 13. So he spent damn near 5 of his last 7 years in and out of the system.
The problem with this is that authenticity in rap entails illegal acts, which is just messed up in general. The culture is f-ked.
This is the correct take crime is the problem here not jail
