i’d argue his fanbase is only so big because he doesn’t drop tho, we remember how good his music was back in the day. I love ski in every way but that last project idk the name but the one with the song the matrix on was ass in my opinion, if he dropped more often the quality wouldn’t be amazing, even with him dropping singles every few months or features i haven’t rated him. If he drops i’ll listen to it fully but i don’t think it’ll be great, happy to be proved wrong tho for sure

@@timmy5876 Nah honestly I think its beceuase people, including me just love ski and hes still fire like he has done some features and freestyles in the last couple of years that have been fire. Yeah hes not really big as a ”releasing artist” I guess because hes not dropped in 2 years but I think everyone knows that hes a good rapper no matter if he dropped a mid album back then so he has not fell off in terms of respect and his fanbase.
i think Ski is fine. Hes got nearly 10 mil monthly listeners on Spotify alone. Hes been focusing on his mental health since X and Juice died and he seems to be doing a lot better now. I think his next album will sell fine

If he takes his time and drops another well-polished project he’s guaranteed to have a great first week. And when inevitably it blows and becomes a tiktok song he’ could probably make some of his best numbers

I agree. I think one part of rap culture that makes it somewhat toxic is peoples expectations for artists to put out straight fire non stop forever. And if they "fail" to do that then they "fell off."

I mean Autumn and Summrs are still doing relatively the same and they literally blew up together. I think it really just depends on how both artists perform on their standalone music. If they both have their own unique style then I believe that both will shine in different ways and avenues

Swear ppl be surprised when I say this back in early 2016 you would’ve thought ski would’ve been bigger.
Neither are better then each other it just depends on what kind of rap you like, ski has better flow and is more fun to listen to X is more versatile and is more of a story teller

@@YUNGCITY I’ve listened to both and I’m an avid fan of both for their differences I don’t put ski on when I’m mad or sad or want to listen to a story and I don’t normally put x on when I just want to vibe or have people in the car like I do with ski it just all depends on the context, mood, place etc.

People that I immediately thought of DaBaby and Stunna 4 Vegas. Stunna started to gain himself attention once dababy started to blow nationally, but as Dababy grew, Stunna became more and more irrelevant. I love his music now to this day, but now he's at his lowest low now that dababy is irrelevant too.
i can understand why ski has dropped much with the passing of two great musical friends. honestly i think he would have maintained relevancy if he dropped more often.
Ski is a real nigga. There were numerous times where bigger artists jumped on his wave after X died wanting to collab like Migos, Drake, J Cole etc. he could’ve used X death to sellout and have those big mainstream hits but he chose to lay low and grieve his friend and he eventually would collab and support other upcoming artists at the time and help them get their big moments instead. Thats what makes Ski so different than other artists anybody else would’ve wanted the clout and mainstream popularity instead of the latter
i think it’s fine if they go in their own direction, for example carti and uzi were very similar at one point, people even said juice wrld was the next x but they went in their own direction and now they have the potential to be bigger.
I think what stopped Carti from being known as the Uzi sidekick was his cult like following. Even though Uzi is more talented in my opinion, Carti's cult kept him on the same level as Uzi
Ski still makes fire music imo, he just needs to change the beats to modernise his sound. But flow wise he’s easily running laps around any of these new niggas in the game

Great video, I would have really appreciated a mention of Lil Peep and Lil Tracy, however. The industry tore them apart and when Lil Peep died, they were supposedly still on bad terms. Tracy's solo music is amazing, but tons of publications always overlooked him for their biggest collaborations. My personal favorite duo. Lil Skies and Landon cube is also one that comes to mind. I feel like Landon is overlooked for Lil Skies but he is very underrated imo
smokepurpp had potential but the direction he went with his music and not grabbing a hold of the spotlight when he had the chance was his ultimate downfall.
Ive said it before and ill say it again, the original Tic tac video he pushed out was fire and if he would've kept that same style & flow i think he could've gained much more traction.
bruhhh tthis what i've been saying forever, exactly that - cactus jack/deadstar etc weren't the real "turning points" of his career missing the right direction and/or overcompensating - it was the time OG tic tac snippet leaked, he really fumbled it during that time and made a string of bad decisions & then trying to hail mary with deadstar 2, and that album was just trying to be too "high profile" for what the fanbase expected and vibed with from purpp at that time. interesting how things go
