Yeah, that's the same statue of Eros that Megara is going to turn around to face the other way when she sings "I Won't Say I'm In Love" (as if to keep him from shooting one of his infamous arrows at her)...but I think the fact that she backed away from Hercules into the point of the arrow implies that the damage has already been done no matter how much she might want to avoid it. She certainly doesn't seem to be resisting very much when Hercules moves in to kiss her!

I’ve learned that when you love someone, you give him the power to destroy you. And most of they time they do. So it’s easier to stay away from love.

When I watched this for the first time, I always thought that Meg was talking about herself and Hercules. "Petty and Dishonest...yes they are..." and her talk was a genuine attempt to discourage Hercules from liking her "Sometimes it's better to be alone...nobody can hurt you..." because she knows that she's using him and she wishes that he wasn't falling for her trick. I never imagined this as a genuine, relatable conversation between the two of them, but I see that side of it now.
Love the part when she backs into Cupid's arrow! She does the biggest double take of her life. Meg, you were my first crush, and I will always love this movie.

Megara's view on life is definitely mine. I believe people are petty and dishonest, even believing that I'm like that too as much as I hate to admit it (Just like Meg did when she questioned how Herc knew what she was really like), and believe that sometimes it's better to be alone because that way you can't hurt anyone and nobody can hurt you.
