- On May 11 & 12, 2018, Caltech and PMA presented Feynman 100, a celebration of Richard Feynman’s life & legacy on the occasion of his 100th birthday.
The May 11 evening event celebrated his broad contributions to science and society as a scientist, teacher, and curious character. Speakers included: Robbert Dijkgraaf, Freeman Dyson, Joan Feynman, Michelle Feynman, Janna Levin, John Preskill and Kip Thorne, Tom Rosenbaum and Leonard Susskind. The evening also included two special video presentations featuring Bill Gates and words from Richard Feynman.

It is a wonderful tribute and honour to a father. Professor Feynman was perhaps the best physics teacher I never had. I began studying physics at the college level after his death, and during my first year at the university, I delved into his books. I had to make a choice between medicine and physics and later entered medical college. I wish I had been born 40 years earlier. Fortunately, thanks to modern technology, we were able to watch his lectures as if he were still alive and lecturing. He probably would have objected to being called the smartest man, as he was a very modest and down-to-earth person.

Richard Feynman was undoubtedly *the* genius of his generation of physicists. It is nice to hear from the best source possible that he was also a nice human being.

You can read his words, both in the books he published and in the ones his family assembled from his other writings, and there's a lot of video of him.

I can't describe how beautiful her genuine elation when recounting these memories is. I can't stop smiling. What a wonderful family! She's so proud of her brother, too. You can see it. That's awesome!
It's called respect... it's something we learn from our parents... like most of the other stuff that gets us through life... respect for others comes from the respect of one's self... and we learn it by watching our parents...

I'm lucky enough to have one of my sons as a theoretical physicist and a teacher as well. I was an undergraduate at Cornell when Feynman gave his lecture series in the '60s, but didn't know about them at the time. I rediscovered him a few years ago and have watched his lecture series and read his books since then. His QED has brought me a clear understanding of light phenomena, and his lectures on the subject are not to be missed.

Richard Feynman has been my favorite scientist for many years now. These talks are precious to someone who recognizes him as an amazing human being who lived life with a joy seldom seen. His life deserves to be celebrated.
My dad presented me the three red books of Feynmans Lectures in Physics when I was in high school. I studied physics from these three books.

An inspiring man through and through. You don't have to be a physicist to enjoy his presence and learn from him how to learn, how to ask serious questions. He passed away, but he is very much alive and present. I am very grateful.
I was engaged by Richard Feynman's twinkling eyes and charisma even in the short clips shown of him on Netflix's recent Challenger documentary. He seemed a very interesting character and I really admired how he put himself out there and re-directed the outcome of the Challenger Commission's findings, supported by General Doug Kutyna and secretly, Sally Ride. That got me looking at books he'd written - unsurprisingly, his humour is mentioned repeatedly. Just ordered two and look forward to reading them. His daughter clearly adored him - she literally shines with love at her happy memories of him.
We should all aspire to have our children cherish us this much, genius or not. This was beautiful.

it is so exciting to hear the voice tembre and a rythm, that has a vibrant part of his marvelous passion to life, I was never fan of him as a scientist , but rather as a human being, who love the life, the world and nature, as it is. Well, fortunately more and more records of Feynman's appear and it is always a pleasure to watch, read or listen. Thanks for sharing it. to Caltech, Princeton and to Feynman Family.

I watch a Feynman lecture or ramble at least once a month. What a great teacher he was and still is.
Mr. Feynman was the best teacher I never got. His books influenced me greatly growing up and they left me with this sense that I knew him on a personal level.

It could be rights issues - they have the right to show them in the auditorium, but not on RUclips. You sometimes see the same issue on +1 TV channels.

Where have I been? At the age of 62 I discover this man only today! He reminds me of myself. Although I have nothing more than a poor high school education, when I first heard him speak I thought so I am not the only person who questions everything and sees things so differently than most everyone I meet. I am so looking forward to watching every video clip I can find of him speaking and reading any books by he and most likely his daughter. What a great day has turned out to be!

What a beautiful person in more ways than one. I'm talking about Michelle! As for Professor Feynman, I'm not all surprised he was a great Dad to those children. He had such a great sense of humor. Mix that with creativity (which he had in abundance) and you can entertain anyone.

I was shown Richard feynman by my young son . And I will thank my son for this formally. I've read a bit about him and I consider him a rare rare gem of humanity . Sorely missed .

I too loved his brilliance, his delightful sense of humor and wit. Her great affection for her dad is truly heart warming and readily understandable, l would have been honored just to have met him.

I never got to meet him, to my misfortune, but as a Physics undergrad student I read his famous lectures and his more popular books. I developed a deep respect for what I knew of him and his work.
I celebrate his life.

I loved the book "Genius" by James Gleick. Wonderful insight into this truly wonderful person. Well worth a read.
I recommend you YOU MUST BE JOKING MR. FEYNMAN, written by the man himself. It is BY FAR, my favorite book. I have the paper version as well as the digital so I can read whenever I want.

I have studied all three volumes of the feynman lectures any they are superb,and, often there is much humour.One of my favourite observations his where he is discussing the planets etc in relation to the early Church.He said that the early Church believed that the stars were held in place by angels pulling in all directions,but,he goes on to say, this theory has been modified.

Hello Yash.Well,I entered college so that I could study only pure Maths,where I sensed some amusement on the part of the Interview Panel,seeing why, when I came up against differential equations involving half life decay etc.Therefore, I can only suggest the method I have always used. namely, when studying the chapters on thermodynamics,which covers mostly what you ask.,If I found a single term that I did not understand I would go to a physics dictionary and to find its meaning.Now it starts to get funny.So ,to take a simple example.if I wanted mass it would direct me to say page 64.But on page 64 density woud be mentioned which neccessited my going to page 19,and from there to another page to find what volume meant etc.In this way I understood,and remembered that which was being written. But might I suggest this?.A professor who absolutely astonishes me (online) is Professor Balakrishnan whose lectures completely covers Feynman"s three volumes,in a way I have never experienced.He fully covers Thermodynamics,beginning with the basics and ending with statistical thermodynamics.Hope I have been of some help. J.B.

I"m pretty thick and I don"t get the point.I am trying to link Unitarian with one who is a member of the C of E, and ,who is against the doctrine of the trinity, with the fact that Feynman, was Jewish,and like Newton, when asked about the existence of God by Bishop Berkeley, said that he had nothng to say,but the Universe suggested order.

I just finished listening to “Perfectly Reasonable Deviations from the Beaten Track“. I enjoyed it so much I listened to it again! His letters show a romantic man with great warmth and humor. I also thought his command of good letter writing was second to none. I’m looking forward to reading his other books!
I can’t wait to delve into his lectures available on RUclips, also. Thanks go to his daughter for her contribution to these books and to her remembrance talk at Cal Tech.

I admire Mr Feynman ever since I discovered Feynman lectures in physics at my Mc Gill university library, when i was first or 2nd year physics major. The way he explained physics showed his true understanding of physics. Since then every time i traveled to LA I must go to Pasadena and take a peeping at his name in the university board, just to admire it. But I am not the type that work hark on reading and working on physics problems then, so I knew I wud never be able to enter Caltech.
I thought learning physics must know the fundamental and rational. Well actually not true, because the teaching of physics is from the historical perspective, as how in history human discovered physics peaces. No much laws of physics and the laws may not be 100% reasonable down to sub particles level. My believe that physicists knows all was due to misguided education I received when very young in a pro communist elementary school, of written by those not so well educated.
I like Mr Feynman ways and his playing of bingo drums in night clubs as well as participating in carnival!
He is very human physicists and I am fortunate to hv met him in Montreal and asked him a few very silly questions !

This man had it all, he was a true genius, had a great sense of humor, was a great teacher, he could be very silly when the times allowed for it and on top of it all he was pretty handsome. If women weren't all chasing him I would not understand.

I sure am glad people don't call me Dick... somehow I didn't ever like that name after watching the Nixon Kennedy debates... it's still there in my mind... it was the last time I watched television... and "enjoyed it"... it's actually insulting to any intelligence... but hey... it's not my business... you are so very fortunate... I don't know, but I have the feeling I was named for him... no other Richard in my family.. I was born on Sandia Base... my father was supervisor for building the scaffolding
As I was watching this video clip, I was able to see the thumbnail of Richard Feynman's speech on Computer Heuristics. And wow, the physical resemblance of Michelle to her father is so clear in this video. There is no mistaking who her father was.

A beautiful remembrance by a charming woman. I'm a computer scientist and it's really strange how much certain aspects of Richard remind me so much of my grandfather who was my mentor. I'm talking about certain personality aspects and his manner of speaking. I'm not sure how that can be, since I don't think we could be closely related at all. I know Richard is Jewish and my grandfather's family came over to America on the boat so long ago from a small village in Germany. They were blacksmiths. Life is strange and wonderful.
