I think you're good at clearly organizing and presenting the relevant information. Keep up the good work. I've certainly enjoyed going back to revisit some of these artists with you.
Oh man. They were so good. Well as far as I know, the vocalist Tyson Stevens sadly passed away back in 2014, they band got back together last year and released a song called 'loved forever' which was a nice little tribute to Stevens as it actually featured samples of his vocal parts from the song 'Blood runs forever' and that's as much as I know. Hopefully we get to see a video that goes further into it and gives a lot more detail 🙏
SO! I'm from Buffalo and I wanted to share something from Cute's history. When I was in high school Cute came to play a show for us. It must have been in 2009 or 10. They won some Kiss 98.5 competition i think. So at the time i believed it was the original line up but watching this video i see it must not have been. Obviously an auditorium of teenagers at a mandatory assembly were not willing to hype up the band that was trying to play. They kept trying to get everyone to cheer and stuff but no one was really complying besides a group of maybe 15 girls who were standing up by the stage. It was pretty funny because as a local band that had gotten big all our teachers thought we'd find the band inspiring. Most of them had even attend that school in specific. So the guys stopped playing for a second and told us about a text hotline you could use to cheat on your homework and tests ( this was pre smart phones I still had a phone that slid sideways to reveal a keyboard) XD they won us over with that bribe. I was working on yearbook photography for it at the time and ive been a fan for so long even though noone knows who they are anymore XD.
The reason we were upset is because they claimed they wrote that song alone and that’s the reason “they” got signed. Kicked all of us out of our own band and took all of our hard work with them

My friend had to interrupt me to tell me that my attention was being requested on stage. I have been to probably triple digit shows in the past decade and that is probably the weirdest thing I’ve ever had happen to me at one.

One of my favorite bands still but those comebacks with him having a all new lineup just seems like he didn't know how to move on from cute and start a new musical journey
Man oh man this is nostalgic. I was thinking about this band today and l found your video through a search. Thank you for making it. I was obsessed with this band when I was like, 13, 14 years old. I actually purchased their Rotation album 2 days before my family left our home in the US and moved to Canada. I was 15 years old, now in a brand new country (again) and I listened to it on repeat. It was one of the few things I got to take with me when we moved. This band brings back so many memories of my most angsty years. I hope Shaant is doing okay. I hope all of the men are!

I'm not gonna keep edited so I'll just add this: you seem so passionate about this too. My interest in older bands brought me here, but your charisma keeps me listening. You got a career in this for sure my dude.
the words "street team" sent me into a that's so raven-esque vision of my past and I can't believe I forgot about that entire period of my life. wild as hell. I remember making art with the lyrics for I put the metro in metronome instead of taking notes in math class.
I’m really sad to only just now find your channel but I’m glad I’m here now. I spent 5 hours on your channel last night, only going to sleep at 4am and picking right back up once I woke up 😂 this channel is so underrated not only the nostalgia but your storytelling skills are absolutely captivating, you have something really special here. I feel like we would have been good friends 15 years ago.
I just revisited this album. I think for nostalgia sake it’s definitely worth revisiting and the music is quite good. However it can’t help but remind me of Brendan Urie and Hayley Williams refusing to sing the word “whore” in their biggest hits anymore, because this album is like if the misogyny was most of the project.
I met shaant at the 2018 CIWWAF show in Boston. Really cool dude, semed like he had a good head on his shoulders. Maybe it was just to put on a good face but he was hanging out in the crowd for all the openers and took a picture with everyone who asked. I talked with him for a few minutes about his recovery and buffalo sports and stuff, he said he had a fiance who really was helping him get into a good headspace. Shaant said they were working on new music and that it would definiteley be out in 2019. I don't really care that new music didn't come out, honestly didn't really believe him when he told me. Maybe he realized that public life wasn't for him, I hope he is okay.
Sounds to me like the dude isn't into political correctness and tasted a bit of backlash for his opinion. nowadays it's career suicide or even worse when you don't have a liberal ideology. He probably said fuck it and move on into obscurity living with his family happily.
@@eldirtyfaygo5395 Unless this comment has something to do with Shaant posting online in support of Trump or something, then no, people calling out the lyrics goes BEYOND 'political correctness,' and 'not being liberal,' though, if someone doesn't has a moral code in the FIRST PLACE, I wouldn't expect them to understand 🤷♀️ 'Blood rush,' had 2 overarching themes 1) ' slut-shaming,' and 2) they REALLY wanted people to know that they were sexually active...It's definitely a questionable (at minimum) choice, considering the fact that I'm pretty sure they were young when this album was released, and their target audience was very young as well. Like, just because teenagers in general are hella immature and 'have raging hormones' (and sexual activity sometimes goes along with those 2 things)... There are so many things that SHOULDN'T have been OK-ed. ESP. if they were teenagers, and/or if they were trying to appeal to teenagers. I don't know if part of the dynamic was that Shaant (the vocalist) thought he was attractive/appealing, and/or that the label thought he was, but like.... If he wasn't a teen, I really hope that he wasn't trying to appeal to teens? I remember my friend, Emily, had 'Blood Rush' on CD (I don't care enough to type the whole album title), and we used to listen to it back in MIDDLE SCHOOL. Yes, I was a fan of them in middle school (and high school). I remember back in '05-'07, 'everyone' in music was calling 'everyone' a whore. There was Misery Business (Paramore), I write sins not tragedies (Panic! at the Disco), and 'slut shaming' was a recurring theme on the album 'Blood Rush,' -- though, to be specific, he refers to whoever as a 'whore,' specifically in the song 'Newport Living.' Yet, for the most part, Hayley has been the main one that people have shamed. It's beyond. The one that always got me was 'The Fourth Drink Instinct,' because Shaant 'slut shamed' a MINOR (he mentioned in the lyrics that she's underaged and has a fake ID) for...someone else r*ping her, when she was too drunk to consent. 🤮 🤬 WHO approved these lyrics?! And no, I don't give 2 sh*ts that it was 'a different time.'
So excited that you talked about Cherry Bing, that band used to talk mad shit about all the other local bands in Buffalo so that Cute would be able to signed before anyone else!
You should cover Crown the Empire!!! I feel like their label pushed them SUPER hard, like I remember seeing RUclips ads for their debut album and after a few months I feel like I never heard about them again
CIWWAF was my first concert when I was like 14. They opened for Secondhand Serenade with A Rocket to the Moon and Automatic Loveletter. It was a great time!
I saw them a few years ago when they did that Same old blood rush with a new touch album anniversary tour. it was fucking awesome I was basically crying the whole time. Definitely a show I will never forget and I still feel so lucky that I got to experience that once in a lifetime show. Love what you’re doing on here dude keep it up!
Found this after reading about CIWWAF in a book (They Can't Kill Us Until They Kill Us). Thanks for an entertaining and thorough video about this band, and about Emo-Pop-Punk music during this time period. Well done :)
You make some really entertaining video. i don't even listen to this type of music or have nostalgia for it, but i can't get enough of your content haha. good work.

Bro I just found this channel and first off I’d like to say I’m hooked on your content! This was and still is one of my fave bands! I remember when the same old blood rush came out it was my 6-8th grade soundtrack. Man fantastic times. I can’t believe the album got such bad reviews it’s a masterpiece in my eyes!
I absolutely love your videos! been binge watching pretty much all of them in quarantine and I just cant get enough. Youre always so passionate about the things you talk about and you clearly put a lot of time and reasearch into every video. Also just really love your vibe. You seem like a really nice person! Keep up the amazing work!!
I love love love the way you described how important this music was as a kid and how putting these songs on again now can transport you right back to those sometimes fun sometimes crazy sometimes soul crushing memories.
One of my bands opened for them on their 2012 or 13' shows. During their set there was a wasted girl standing next to me side stage screaming at the band and falling down. I decided to help her by getting her outside but before I could do that he decided to stop the show and tell me to get my bitch girlfriend out the venue. I yelled back at him I don't know her and she is drunk and he told me to leave and ask for security. Not knowing that I was a bigger name myself in the town he was in. After the show I confronted him outside, he was sitting in a corner alone smoking a cigarette and drinking a mix drink. He apologized and said the song meant a lot to him and I basically told him I don't have a problem with you but one day someone might. Weird and fully obsessed guy. Oh and back in 2005 or 06 before they got a drummer I was talking to them on myspace to play drums for them. Guess I dodged a bullet...
This is so strange, I went to high school with Jeff Czum and just randomly got a thought in my head wondering what the deal was with cute is what we aim for. They played a concert at my high school's talent show and it's sort of took over the talent show by turning it into their concert. anyways - I searched their name on RUclips and see that one month ago a video was put up about them. This was like a decade ago that I last heard them. I can't believe anybody still talking about them or thinking about them.
haha wow thats crazy!! yeah they def seem to be somewhat forgotten in certain regards. that's funny that you went to high school with jeff and saw them at a talent show!! pretty wild lol. thanks for watching!
@@azhrayharris8 they were already pretty famous at that point if I remember correctly, it felt more like the school had asked them but they definitely took it over whether it was intentional or not just because they were already on fuse tv and it was hard to not be excited about that
Your words about their first album are so accurate and thoughtful. I enjoy it for all the same reasons. I thoroughly enjoyed every single word of every single song and there's nothing like going back to this album and reminiscing the feeling I got when I first listened.
Dave Melillo who you mentioned at 31:00 dropped an album randomly in 2022. It’s pretty good , if you’re into that genre. My fave song off it is “Believer”
My older sister got me into Cute when in 2009 she handed down a shirt from their early days. I saw them on the 2010 tour, which was my first concert (I was 14) and I also saw them at Warped 2014 which was my first and only Warped. It’s weird to think that I’m a small part of their weird history. But I’m thankful to you for chronicling all of it and explaining everything in an entertaining way. Oh and I laughed so hard at your end credits.
they were huge in Buffalo and I remember my older sisters good friend was asked out by Shaant and said no. I remember being so jealous and wondering what was wrong with her to turn down someone who made music I lived for… but looking back as an adult she probably dodged a bullet.
Super late to the party on this but I’m glad you mentioned Dave Melilo here. He had a podcast series called “Too Young to Fail” which basically was him sharing how he started writing songs, being courted by Drive-Thru, meeting and touring with CIWWAF and seeing Paramore when they were just getting started, writing songs with the guy from Better than Ezra, shifting from writing Dashboard-esque songs to more complex, out-there songs, and ultimately being screwed over by Drive-Thru. It’s a pretty fascinating story.
First time listener here calling in. Really diggin this dude. Props to amount of research and way you tell their story. Super entertaining......The nostalgia is real. Subscribed 👍
I remember this band back in high school and saw there's a class for this on fuse and thought they were a cool band. Bands like the acadamy is, october fall, amber pacific and cartel, hey monday, foever the sickest kids, and even post hardcore bands like funeral for a friend, saosin, circa survie, afi, a change of pace, lovehatehero, underoath, from first to last, stutterfly, I set my friends on fire, eyes set to kill, thursday as well. pop and power pop and post hardcore was what I got into in high school because of fuse, but i never bought there records just cause I was a little older and was growing out of it.
You should deff make a video on what banda are still alive and thriving and all those we lost along the way my Fav bands were always AllTimeLow TheMaine MaydayParade ForeverTheSicketKids
Ps Jack Marin rules. I wasn't a fan of the fueled by Ramen era of October Fall, but everything before that was so good. If anyone sees this and has those songs, please hit me up! I need them haha
Dude this is solid, I subscribed, unsubscribed, and subscribed again. Brilliant work man. Love this content also very entertaining! You get our pop puck generation!
Started watching this today while working from home. Loved them back in the day. Sure Rotation was produced by John Feldman (Goldfinger) work finished, had to take a drive to the shop, put on Same Old Bloodrush. Still good. Much love from the UK. Keep the content coming. Loads of bands from that era worth covering for sure
I still have those old demos from MySpace on computer from back in the day. Honestly I prefer that version of lyrical lies more than the album version. I was just jamming to that shit the other day. Dude I’ve gone down a rabbit hole on your channel. Keep up the good work homie.
@@deaniguess when I listen to the songs on Spotify I always expect the demo versions to play next. But I have them saved on my iTunes thank god. Do you remember the old ihop videos on RUclips? They are old as shit now.
I love how, out of this entire video, the only thing I’m thinking at the end is that I always thought the growling “123 123 pick it up123” in Bomb the Music Industry’s “Congratulations John on Joining Every Time I Die” was like a joke on a dude leaving a ska band to join a metal-core band when it’s actually just a reference to an Every Time I Die song and I’m just an idiot lol. Funny the things you learn listening to a dude talk about Cute is What We Aim For for an hour. Well that and that bands in the 2000’s that played any sort of punk and/or one of its sub genres all had really long names for some weird reason. Then again I’m in a band with a number in the name so maybe I should shut the hell up about how other bands name themselves.
I saw them with Lights and Boys Like Girls at ECSU in 2008/2009. It was a crazy show, BLG were massive partiers, but I got a guitar pick they threw off the stage.
In 2019 a song called, Through To You was randomly uploaded onto the Cute Is What We Aim For Spotify page. I was surprised that a new song was uploaded and the song is really awesome. Unfortunately nothing more was ever uploaded by Cute.
I interviewed Shaant around the time of the latest comeback and his alt press canceling... for my podcast called Better Look That Up. it’s no longer online but I’d be happy to send anyone the audio if they want to listen
@@thecozyrep I have it on my computer at home so when i’m off work I will send it over, it must have been 2016/17... it was while they were in tampa for the reunion tour. dave melilo is a friend and shaant and them are friends through him and a few other friends.
Met them at the 10 year anniversary tour in Oklahoma! At that date they all seemed pretty cool and Shaant told a story about a prank with a Buffalo park bench ending in the bench getting hit by a cop car + he said that A Closed Mind With An Open Mouth was "a mistake" lmao. The band offered to buy us tea. Based on some other comments maybe this show was before he relapsed...

for the first time in my life I feel like I should be dating someone my own age so that we can reminisce and listen to CIWWAF and Taking Back Sunday and the Used lmao
Been streaming the album recently for the first time. (Unsure how I never heard this until now) My favorite thing is the lyrics and song context. Themes of chasing a rush, charming girls, city lights, and attention. Although I’m familiar with these topics in songs, none have done it in the manner Aim For did. At times, the lyrics can be cocky, arrogant, and condescending. But I kind of like that. Reminds me of 2005 MTV. You just had to be there. I never managed to listen to the album when it was released so I like that I’m building association with it during present day. I live in San Diego so that kinda helps when driving down the sunny highway. WE GO WHEREEEEEE THE MONEY GOES.
Yoooo your videos are sick and really captivating/informative, keep it up!! I’d love to see something on The Cab someday if you could cause they were like my favorite of that era.

the words "street team" sent me into a that's so raven-esque vision of my past and I can't believe I forgot about that entire period of my life. wild as hell. I remember making art with the lyrics for I put the metro in metronome instead of taking notes in math class.
Do a video on Hawthorne Heights!!!
PLEASE
I’ve had Miss Sobriety stuck in my head for 7 years and counting now
Thank you so much for making this. CIWWAF will forever be one of my favorite bands.
@@eldirtyfaygo5395 Unless this comment has something to do with Shaant posting online in support of Trump or something, then no, people calling out the lyrics goes BEYOND 'political correctness,' and 'not being liberal,' though, if someone doesn't has a moral code in the FIRST PLACE, I wouldn't expect them to understand 🤷♀️
'Blood rush,' had 2 overarching themes 1) ' slut-shaming,' and 2) they REALLY wanted people to know that they were sexually active...It's definitely a questionable (at minimum) choice, considering the fact that I'm pretty sure they were young when this album was released, and their target audience was very young as well.
@@eldirtyfaygo5395 I'm back, now I know about the tweets. He's absolutely disgusting.
@@Lettheflamesbeginx3 you're butthurt because of lyrics? Yeah you're unhinged.
So excited that you talked about Cherry Bing, that band used to talk mad shit about all the other local bands in Buffalo so that Cute would be able to signed before anyone else!
Super crazy that Micheal from Passion Pit started out in a ska band lol
You should cover Crown the Empire!!! I feel like their label pushed them SUPER hard, like I remember seeing RUclips ads for their debut album and after a few months I feel like I never heard about them again
For whatever reason your chiodos video popped into my reccomended.
Then I watched the bryan stars video.
And now this one.
You earned my sub
CIWWAF was my first concert when I was like 14. They opened for Secondhand Serenade with A Rocket to the Moon and Automatic Loveletter. It was a great time!
I saw them a few years ago when they did that Same old blood rush with a new touch album anniversary tour. it was fucking awesome I was basically crying the whole time. Definitely a show I will never forget and I still feel so lucky that I got to experience that once in a lifetime show. Love what you’re doing on here dude keep it up!
When I was 13 my first concert was to see Cute Is What We Aim For.. I think Circa Survive was on the line up to.. oh those were the days.
ngl I miss them, I still have the rotation CD in my car ;--;
I still play the albums to
i remember going to a lot of those tours, i miss when shows were stacked like that now the scene is mostly dead :( sad
@@ashikyuu same here, yeah unfortunately the scene isn't what it used to be
@@ashikyuu i Love This band too😍
I have drum head signed by everyone
Found this after reading about CIWWAF in a book (They Can't Kill Us Until They Kill Us). Thanks for an entertaining and thorough video about this band, and about Emo-Pop-Punk music during this time period. Well done :)
Dude that Cherry Bing album slaps hard! Just listened to it. Thanks for the hidden treasure.
You make some really entertaining video. i don't even listen to this type of music or have nostalgia for it, but i can't get enough of your content haha. good work.
duuuude i need more! i just turned 25 and its the BEST feeling watching your videos with all these throwbacks and stuff!
i watched all of your uploads in the past week or 2 because the way you explain it just shows how much you love and adore this scene in general!
thank you so much for your time and effort - pls keep it up!
Thank you for doing these videos!! I thought I was the only one who wondered what happened to these bands!
please do a video about Taking Back Sunday omg
YES
Bro I just found this channel and first off I’d like to say I’m hooked on your content! This was and still is one of my fave bands! I remember when the same old blood rush came out it was my 6-8th grade soundtrack. Man fantastic times. I can’t believe the album got such bad reviews it’s a masterpiece in my eyes!
God , I love This Providence. Would love it if you'd do a video on them. I always wondered what happened and where they went.
Just found this channel and i am OBSESSED! I was a big ole emo kid growing up, you're covering all of the essential emo classics!! Keep em coming!
Did they take it over in a good "we're all having fun" way, or a bad "everyone look at how cool my band is" way?
@@azhrayharris8 they were already pretty famous at that point if I remember correctly, it felt more like the school had asked them but they definitely took it over whether it was intentional or not just because they were already on fuse tv and it was hard to not be excited about that
I loved this band so muchhh. I agree, not many people made a hype out of it and felt very underrated at times
Your words about their first album are so accurate and thoughtful. I enjoy it for all the same reasons. I thoroughly enjoyed every single word of every single song and there's nothing like going back to this album and reminiscing the feeling I got when I first listened.
Cute is what we aim for was my first concert I ever went to at age 14 , soo long ago 😊
Dave Melillo who you mentioned at 31:00 dropped an album randomly in 2022. It’s pretty good , if you’re into that genre.
My fave song off it is “Believer”
Haven’t watched yet but so happy to see this!
Great video. Also, that old photo of Valencia (one of my favorite bands ever) gripped my now 31 year old heart.
i am so glad i found this channel *puts on TBS shirt i bought with my allowance at hot topic in 2008*
they were huge in Buffalo and I remember my older sisters good friend was asked out by Shaant and said no. I remember being so jealous and wondering what was wrong with her to turn down someone who made music I lived for… but looking back as an adult she probably dodged a bullet.
I remember seeing Envy on the Coast in 07. Such a good show
Super late to the party on this but I’m glad you mentioned Dave Melilo here.
33:05 I realized that I have never disagreed with you once and I kind of want to see you do a "let's argue" fantano style video
YES amazing idea
First time listener here calling in. Really diggin this dude. Props to amount of research and way you tell their story. Super entertaining......The nostalgia is real. Subscribed 👍
I don’t care about this band at al
l I’m just binge watching all your videos because I love hearing you talk
Please do a video on how Hey Monday went wrong
Also VersaEmerge
The hey monday girl is a country singer now! She won the voice. Also yes i loved versaemerge so much
thissss ^^^^^^^
I'm 27 but ive been binging tf out of your videos. Thanks for the nostalgia plus giving me reasons to love it so much more.
As the original trumpet player of cherry. Bing I’m not sure what to say 🎺 😂
I was so caught off guard with the mention of Jawbreaker! Love them and your videos, Cozy.
Ps Jack Marin rules. I wasn't a fan of the fueled by Ramen era of October Fall, but everything before that was so good. If anyone sees this and has those songs, please hit me up! I need them haha
I was born in the same year that "The Same Old Blood Rush With A New Touch" came out and it's one of my favorite albums, rawr.
I can't even convey how much I appreciate your content!
Dude this is solid, I subscribed, unsubscribed, and subscribed again. Brilliant work man. Love this content also very entertaining! You get our pop puck generation!
ayy thank you so much!!!!!! i appreciate that for real, you rock!! :)
The demo version of Finger Twist and Teasing to Please are far better in my opinion. They're ingrained in my brain.
@@deaniguess when I listen to the songs on Spotify I always expect the demo versions to play next. But I have them saved on my iTunes thank god. Do you remember the old ihop videos on RUclips? They are old as shit now.
I loved CIWWAF. Thanks for the history and what happened. I had always wondered what had gone wrong.
Rotation is one of my favourite albums... It is so underrated.
Great video!
i love Cute Is What We Aim For, I love Passion Pit and this video just blow my mind! I did not see that coming.
Same
Music industry is really interesting
One of my favorite debut if the decade. Saw them with paramore back in "06.
Lol this was dope. You are literally the VH1 youtube incarnate. You're doing gods work my man XD
i remember that paramore tour it was so perfect, still have the ticket stub.
These scene videos just hit different, sooo nostalgic🤤keep it up you gained a sub today⚘
Could you do a video on the all american rejects?
The All American Rejects were my favorite band when i was a kid. he should definitely make a video on them.
I saw them with Lights and Boys Like Girls at ECSU in 2008/2009. It was a crazy show, BLG were massive partiers, but I got a guitar pick they threw off the stage.
The fueled by ramen power scene... that’s such a sentence
Oh and don’t forget to do Never Shout Never part 2!
OMG THE CAB.... What happened to them? That dude's voice was awesome!
La Dispute and Pierce The Veil pleaaaase!🤞🏻
New subbie, I haven’t stopped watching videos since the Bryan stars vid was recommended lol
In 2019 a song called, Through To You was randomly uploaded onto the Cute Is What We Aim For Spotify page. I was surprised that a new song was uploaded and the song is really awesome. Unfortunately nothing more was ever uploaded by Cute.
I interviewed Shaant around the time of the latest comeback and his alt press canceling... for my podcast called Better Look That Up. it’s no longer online but I’d be happy to send anyone the audio if they want to listen
hey i would love to hear this if you wouldnt mind sending it to me! my email is julianberosh@gmail.com :)
@@thecozyrep I have it on my computer at home so when i’m off work I will send it over, it must have been 2016/17... it was while they were in tampa for the reunion tour. dave melilo is a friend and shaant and them are friends through him and a few other friends.
Oh boy........ The dude should probably get off social media if he wants to keep having a career. What the hell.
Curse of Curves is a bop, I still listen to it. You can't be in a bad mood listening to bands like them
so cool you mentioned forgive durden. i never knew anyone who listened to them. wonderland holds up to this day as one of my favorite albums. they deserve so much more love, that album is a masterpiece
Hey great videos, will you ever make a video on The All American Rejects?
Ahhhh, this is so nostalgic. I remember buying this cd in 2007
Thank you for compiling all this knowledge, I've been following their trail for years, but you put it all together in the concise way I've been waiting for.
I’m in love with ur channel bc as a 11 yr old to abt when i started highschool I’ve always wondered what happened to half the bands u talk abt on ur channel and i now have answers thank you
No hate on former pop punk/ska bands.
Ice Nine Kills was originally a ska band.
i went to the tour with paramore, hit the lights, and this providence!! i was a freshman in high school lmao i was so tiny but i was on the barricade and had huge bruises after the show was over. to this day one of the most fun and memorable shows of my life!!
also i met shaant afterwards and got a really cringy very scene photo with him LMAO
omg also went to young wild things tour!!
for the first time in my life I feel like I should be dating someone my own age so that we can reminisce and listen to CIWWAF and Taking Back Sunday and the Used lmao
Well, that was a weird thing that you just said.
I’d love to see something on The Cab someday if you could cause they were like my favorite of that era.
hey thank you so much!! it means a lot :) i would love to do a The Cab vid thats a great idea!! they had such dope music
The Hush sound was awesome!
I live in Buffalo, NY the music scene used to be so dope. I miss that time :(
