The question is this By will alone Does my heart carry the strength To see you burn? When I do not wish to part To see them farewell Does my heart carry the strength To leave you behind? The eternal search for purity A fragile hope for the just and fair Order feeds from the corpses All beauty must die Where is the essence In beast or scripture? Enslaved is one of the few bands that are really trying to write songs, and not just a blast beat over a really cool riff that goes nowhere and is wasted.
I dont really think you need to fit the sterotype to like this band or the style of music they make,i just like this cause it sounds great to me!! just krank it up and enjoy!!!
Greetings from seattle! \m/ Saw you guys a week ago, just wanted to say that I really appreciate all you guys do. It was very nice hearing your amazing set, I really wished it could be longer. I'm so happy you guys hung out afterwards and talked with my friends and I, it meant alot. Great music, great times. Come back very soon. \m/
Yeah i meant more so the lyrics and vocals. The drums are fast but the music is very proggy trippy. I think thats why i think of it as pure BM like old sabbath. No theatrics and contests as to who is the most evil. and very spacey cool. I am into al ot of the evil stuff but i just like proggy death stuff the best i guess. Opeth, edge of sanity, that genre.
@chaisegilbert I think it's important to understand that early influences and an actual genre are not the same thing. The genre black metal was born during the early 90s in Norway because it is here there are clear stylistical changes both in terms of aesthetics and sound. That these bands drew influence from bands such as Venom is a different matter entirely. The name "black metal" was most likely coined thanks to Venom, but they WERE NOT black metal per se.
@Die4tw0 : as long as the music works for you, it doesn't matter a fuck what anyone else thinks. Just as long as you don't go round murdering people or something, like some metal bands talk about in their lyrics, e.g. Six Feet Under. But the band members themselves don't actually put into practice what they talk about in their songs, it's just art.
Well Mayhem 1991 album was very atmospheric aswell i think, what we are talking about here is norwegian black metal, black metal started with bathory and even some of their songs were atmospheric i believe.
Black Metal was started as a anti-religious genre. The british band Venom was the first labeled as black metal back in the 80's and their music focused on Anti-Christian and Satanic themes. Im not starting a religious debate. Im also not arguing with anyone and saying they are wrong. Im just stating a fact that hadnt been brought up yet.
@GPazosL Some people become confused when I put on something like Radiohead or M83 because apparently listening to Darkthrone etc, means I must not like anything else.
@InFlames231: that's damn right. I listen to a lot of rock and metal but I've got short hair and don't look the slightest bit rock/metal really. Sometimes I think about going really goth or something with my appearance, but then I decide I'm happy with the way I look. And the most important thing is what's in someone's head and heart, cos if their personality sucks then what's on the outside doesn't count for shit.
Why must every death/black metal song have an argument in the comment section about how it is satanic started off by some nitwit who doesn't know what he's talking about. Shut up, sit down, rock out.
One of my friends still thinks it's weird I look the way that I do and like a lot of extreme metal. No long hair or black clothing (minus black tshirts) goes against her stereotype. Not that I have anything against long hair or black clothing, but people should never have to fit any kind of mold.
@amusingisthedawn While I personally disagree, I can understand your point. I often discovered great music where one (large, or tiny) element ruined the entire experience for me. I this case though, I feel the vocals are what elevates it beyond the music, which is, in itself, already pretty fucking great :)
@InFlames231 I get it too. My hair is red and medium cut, and i'm a nursing student so i wear scrubs every day... i always wore clothes that were comfortable. I wouldn't mind some combat boots though! Peace
@InFlames231 is the most truest things ive ever heard i like heavy metal and i dont wear that kinda stuff i wear skinny jeans black tshirts etc. but i dont have very long hair...if anything people would think i was a skater but i dont skate :L
yeah i pretty much dress as what society would deem "normal"...short hair...clean cut, but i fucking love metal....who gives a fuck how you look when it comes to music?
yeah. i don't know how popular people live with themselves .. i mean .. how can you live your life being like everyone else and being a sheep? meh .. thats besides the point .. and plsu .. theres nothing we can do about it -_- enslaved kick ass.
this music is so cerebral...there's no need for vocals...let alone the extreme metal vocals. i can deal with it cause ive listening to extreme music my whole life...but in this case, i would say it takes away from such an opus.
Still to this day remains my favorite Enslaved song. So much emotion
The nostalgia is strong in this one...
I can't put to words my love for these guys...
Me too. Their music speaks to my soul
one of the most original bands ever
The question is this
By will alone
Does my heart carry the strength
To see you burn?
When I do not wish to part
To see them farewell
Does my heart carry the strength
To leave you behind?
The eternal search for purity
A fragile hope for the just and fair
Order feeds from the corpses
All beauty must die
Where is the essence
In beast or scripture?
Where lies the laws
In stars or temples?
I cannot see myself
Not your orbit
I cannot see the others
Not your eyes
It lasts forever when you let it go
Purity and Pain
Where is the essence
In beast or scripture?
Where lies the laws
In stars or temples?
I cannot see myself
Not your orbit
I cannot see the others
Not your eyes
If I told you I'd get you through
I'd have to let you fall down
Not because of malice
You needed to
And I'll remember
What we had
It lasts forever when you let it go
Purity and Pain
Any posibility to re-upload the video in HD 720P?
Enslaved is going to end up being my favorite band it's only a matter of time
A year later where we at? Suspense is killing me
Enslaved is one of the few bands that are really trying to write songs, and not just a blast beat over a really cool riff that goes nowhere and is wasted.

the winter comes...
Maybe not. Enslaved was there before Agalloch but bands arent always afraid to be inspired by later artists...

Truth, agreed. :)
HAIL!!!!!
@Die4tw0, i fail to see why their opinion matters in any way, shape or form. it's you who lives your life, not them through you.
1349- celestial deconstruction
