This was absolutely one of the best games of RTS I've ever seen. I had absolutely no idea who was going to win and it was action from start to finish. Love to see this game being played at such a high level of skill
Yep, the APM and spread ended up being too much for Lucifron. I wonder if MarineLord purposely cranked up the pressure very gradually or just naturally played round 1 that way.
Oh man.. I was watching the spasskaya tower video before sleep, and this got uploaded while I was watching.. now I’m forced to stay up a bit longer since this is the best game of AoE4 I’ve ever seen
56 minutes, 39 seconds, and not one second will anyone want to skip. And not for one minute will anyone be able to guarantee who's going to win. I'm not going to say it either. What an absolute gem of a match. The absolute clash of two monsters going up against each other with more than skill, sheer will, and still getting their horns locked at a stalemate ever so often. If anyone ever had to help explain what an "Unstoppable force meets an Immovable Object" looks like, send them the link to this video.
I had to rewind and watch the minimap to figure out how that win was pulled off, and I think the secret was the proxy base in the far east corner. Lots of villager dots near it got wiped out in those last couple minutes.
@@whyno713 skip through the video a bit and focus on the right corner of the map in the last ~20 minutes - drongo was completely ignoring how much action was going on at the side.

I absolutely love how they both played French, but in completely different ways. I didn't know who to root for since I like starcraft and warcraft. I do think it's funny seeing a player named after a starcraft unit vs a player named after a world of warcraft boss in an age of empires game.
I haven't played the game and don't know the rules but still love watching it! Can someone explain why Lucifron lost in the end instantly? I thought you have to kill enemy king or town hall to win the match or am I wrong?
there was a slow trickle of death amongst his villagers, eventually, it reached a critical point where he wasn't able to sustain enough units on the battlefield, and he subsequently collapsed
that was really good game, lucifron army was better but marinelord has enough economic support and production building just right so he can defend his base indefinitely. To win, either you destroy the enemy's economy or production building. that was well played from Marinelord

--- SPOILER ALERT ---- Around 50:00 MarineLord proves what Starcraft II pro players have proved time and time again, even under constant attack, always go for counter-attack/raid if you think you can manage it. And being MarineLord himself he went for these "marine drops" aka tower drops to the "mineral line" aka farms/lumber camps. You can see from the minimap he always sent some horsemen some vils something something to Lucifron's base. And in the next 6 mins Lucifron lost 40+ vils (half of his economy at that point) and he had to tap out. Damn what a game.
i wish i'll be able to do that someday - but it takes an insane amount of APM. Raiding like this is somewhat common in AOE 2, 3 and 4, but not at this absurd level of intensity. Marinelord is a beast.
at minute 17:17 it looks like marinelord sees the vils on gold and ignores them while the knight mass is decentish. i know the army is valuable but is it worth killing the vils in that situation from his standpoint?
Losing that amount of knights in french mirror for a few vils is a bad idea, oppo will just immediately come to your eco with his knights and kill much more than those vils
