I wish the American style Sankey kegs had a spear that easy to remove. Ours are not screwed in, we have a split ring that goes in a very small slot above the spear that is hard to remove and hard to reinstall and easy to damage.
That made me giggle.😂 Good luck for double brew day. You could try reducing boil length to save a bit of time (and energy) and could you finish last bit of chilling in the fermenter to allow freeing kettle a bit sooner for second boil?
I imagine the HLT can hold the total amount needed for 1 batch? You could try to use the kettle to heat the water needed for the second mash, then top the HLT up right after you mash the first batch. That should buy you some time. It’s what I’m doing atm with my kit to maximize the volume as I’ve got a small HLT. I’ve been really inspired by your work, thank you for sharing!
Don't know if anyone said this before, but that's a US dime (ten cents), not a nickle, which is five cents. But no worries, we know what you meant and that's an awesome fix to get those out. 👍 Great video. Edit - Darn it. I didn't read down far enough. LOL. Never mind 🙂
Thirsty work! Five pence pieces come in two flavours, the older cupro-nickel thinner one and the newer thicker one that is coated steel. I should imagine the older one is the one you want.
What could possibly go wrong… Beer at the end for sure. All grain at home is great, in a brewery - anything above 25 ltrs takes on, volumes, weight, time. Loved 25 ltrs, then brewing 10 BBL & 20 BBL, hard graft, time consuming (not my brewery-thought I’d check it out) Put me off going commercial. All WiFi , tinterweb control, beer is like a baby, 24/7. Hard work, how the heck do commercial break even?
It's all about volume if you want a living from it. No way this brewery could sustain me and my family, but we will break even with 2 brews of 7 casks per month. No wages here! Consider it at the pro-hobby stage. And then we will see where it takes us...
Just for my learnings, why the feck isn't there a proper device for you to use? How do the manufacturers expect breweries to clean the kegs then? Am I missing something?
@@FourPriestsBrewery Lol. If all else fails (or you lose your Dime), then I guess you can have something welded to the bottom of a spare adapter……can you not buy latch less spears?
Glad you got it sorted in the end 👍
Over the moon. If I could make enough beer to put in them it would be great! Onwards! :)
@@FourPriestsBrewery If I lived closer I would come & help you with the double brew.
Oh wow that musta been doing your head in!
Love ya work Andy!
Not any more. I win. :)
Well done with the S-type keg spear mate - and Thanks. Now I’ve gotta head over to Vegas and get a US dime (I’m sure the missus will understand).
Yes, it' has to be a Vegas nickel. One from a boring city doesn't work. Tell her I told you.
To be clear, that is an American dime (10 cent coin) not a nickle (5 cent coin)
Is the little one the dime then? So a dime is physically smaller than a nickel. Well I never! Thanks, I will publish a correction soon :)

You could always move here! :) Cheers

Did it. It wasn’t pretty and I have 2 in the tanks. Slight difference in OG for reasons that will be revealed (chaos)

Thanks! Did exactly that today. Lots of challenges!
Well thought out Andy I suppose that's where the American saying go you gotta put your five cents in don't ya lol 🤣
10 cents John! :)

Correction and retraction in the next video :)
@@FourPriestsBrewery No need sir! Keep up the great work. 👍
Already filmed it :)
Is the angle grinder coming out? or spot weld the nickel to an old coupler? Great work!
Yes and yes

Thanks for the info. No idea why this didnt work with anything other than 5c. Will try again with other spacers now I know what to do.
