I remember watching this video as a kid eager to own a R6 one day. It’s been a year already with my 2018 R6 and it’s amazing to look back. Ride safe brotha
For anyone who is worried about the seat height of the r6 which is 2'9" just make sure to lower it about 1 inch in case you are a small person. I am 5'7 and lowered mine about 1 inch now I can handle it fine. Plus the r6 is my first bike although the majority suggested not getting + learning on the r6 as a beginner BUT I would say if you always drive with a clear mind, are mature enough and respect the bike you will be fine. The bike handles rly well even for a beginner and IMO is the best looking sportbike out there.
lol you don't know the potential of R6. Good if you can handle it. But seriously, R6 isn't boy's toy. I highly doubt you have the ability to handle it even with clear mind. But oh well, I wish you a goodluck and safe ride.
MrShqiptar92 and SuperGlory32 Very well said. The R6 is diffidently for experienced riders. It requires lots of skills to be able to ride that monster. You have to keep it at high rpm. Its designed for racing.
There's no question that the R6 has the best stock sound of the 600s, and it's an absolute rev monster. It's the smoothest 600 up high in the rev range. My first supersport was an R6. Will forever be close to my heart!
Really entertaining review Tom! Nice to see you chose the 636 though. :) I think anyone can learn on a supersport or literbike but I don't advise it either. But, it's definitely doable and not as difficult as people make it out to be.
I had no motorcycle or dirt bike experience, bought a used r6 and learned on that by myself, never crashed. I did drive manual atvs for years previously so I had the clutch control and shifting experience down already though. Not bragging, just saying it is very doable. For someone who has no experience withclutch and shifting though, I can see it being quite a lot to take in and maybe too much, but if you know clutch control and shifting already from an atv or dirt bike you can definitely start out on a fast bike. My opinion
@@ytfrank4412 I've been covering my front brake on my bike since the time I almost rear ended a car which stopped suddenly in the city, don't see any real disadvantage as i've still got a grip on the throttle with my thumb and pointer finger
My first bike after my test was a 2006 R6, loved every minute, I up graded to an R1 after , gonna buy myself a sports bike next week, think I'm going to go back to the R6 absolutely love them !!!
***** Not bad at all; I'm 6"1' though. I flat foot bent knee at stop lights and the R6 is supposed to be one of the highest stock seats with the highest foot pegs for ground clearance. I wouldn't even know what to do if I didn't have my R6. It is 100% my dream bike and even after owning it for 2+ years, I still get butterflies when I ride it. I can definitely see myself eventually upgrading to a Panigale or 899 or BMW at some point in the future, but my R6 would suit me for the rest of my life if it could last that long (I just like new things and would probably still keep my R6) Long post, but I 100% recommend an R6. I also would like to say that people think an R6 is crazy expensive, like when you see people on riding vlogs "what do you do to afford a bike and a car????!!" etc. I pay $180+$120 (payment+insurance) per month for it. That's crazy cheap, even during the winter when you don't ride it as much. To the question at hand, it is more comfortable than my first bike, ninja 250cc, which was said to be the most comfortable bike because of it's upward riding position (like and rz6n). By keeping concentrated on keeping weight on your legs or butt not your hands, which btw is not as hard as people say, it feels just like sitting hunched forward at a computer desk. I recommend going to a dealership and sitting on one to get a feel for it. If you are >5'11", I 100% say get an R6. Even so, go sit on one. Best wishes, Alex
I'm 5'10" and I was comfortable. You will probably be on your toes but that won't be an issue. Even people as short as 5 foot can ride it, it will just be leaning to one side. I don't think having your feet flat on the ground is needed so much with road bikes, I would only think riding off road or maybe with a passenger might be an issue though.
Very good point. The other reason for not covering the brake is, if you're whole hand is on the throttle, when you come to getting the brake, your hand rolls forward to reach for it, automatically taking you off the throttle. Much safer, especially for an emergency brake.
Your next bike will be a bmw s1000rr...oh you knew that already :D But here you say why would you ever need a more powerfull bike than this, then you get a liter bike...lolz
What power dirt bikes have you been riding? The only thing you need to know is how to ride on the road. (But that comes under all street riding) Throttle control (Because a 600 will be unforgiving) How to move from a standstill (because you will flip it) And to not get carried away with the power. If you are worried, then you arent ready.
Got this model a year a go here in Cali it is the 2013 model, production date is 2012. The 2014 has gold wheels. Love this bike not riden it in a while racked up 6300 miles in a year gonna ride mine tomorrow after watching this.
Best bike review I have ever watched, hands down. Watching you blast down the motorway and hearing your reaction to the bike put the biggest smile on my face and you say some funny staff. If you make anymore Ill definitely tune in. I hope someone sees this and hooks you up somehow
Hey man like the vids, but what`s up with the constant 3-4 finger covering of the front brake lever? Even 1 finger is mighty plenty to stop with maximum efficiency from 100+ mph. Always having at least 2 fingers around the throttle gives you way more control than just palming it is what I`ve noticed. Like to hear your thoughts on that. Cheers from Bulgaria!
i've seen most of your videos tom. this one is my fav tom. i have a gsxr 600 in the garage and its my first bike. this video shows me what i should expect for acceleration. please keep posting, its still snowing here in massachusetts; your videos help me through the winter. cheers man :)
I swear every time you pulled that throttle and got a little excited, i was over here on my end of the computer yelling with excitement too! can't wait to get one of those
i think your reactions said it all..the icing on the cake dude !!! awesome video !...best part, the guy asking u if its yours ! cheers ! @ridingWithTom
I have own both and for comfort (if there is such a thing on a sport bike) I prefer the R6 as well as for style. But for overall experience I would say go for the 636. You'll enjoy the extra displacement and the fact that the powerband is geared more towards street use, and the extra things like power modes and traction control, which is awesome for the rainy days.
He doesnt have the brake pulled in to actually brake, he probably just has the slack pulled in. Youre taught to have the slack taken out and the brake covered when riding through traffic in the US, idk if its not taught in AU, but its supposed to make you able to stop in an emergency faster
Yes it is depending on where you live. I know in California and in the UK you can lane split. It's not legal but it's not illegal, and in some cases (almost all) it is safer than waiting in traffic like a car. You'll have to check with your local law enforcement to be sure though.
Haha, this had me smiling throughout this video, listening to the sound of this R6 it's so good, can't wait till I can afford one in like 10 years (I'm 17 at the moment)
My weight is 170lbs, built not fat. My height is 5'7.5" 25 years old. Would gsxr 600 fit me better for its lower stance or will I be okay with r6? I started with ninja 250 and once I rode my friends cbr 600, I just fell it love with the power. Wow, what a difference. I like the look on the r6, but I do not want to tip toe.... :( thanks.
nice review man (y) im planning to get a 600cc supersport in 2 months n i cant decide between the r6, zx6r and the daytona 675. which one would you recommend?
Great video! This bike is insane! Got a dumb question, is there a such thing as a throttle restrictor or like a tension screw that can make the throttle harder to give gas? I think that would make 600's easier to learn on for bigger guys that look goofy on a 250-300... And, what ever came about of that heat issue on your leg? Is it normal for a r6 to run that hot where its that noticeable? Thanks, loved the review, I keep finding myself coming back and watching again and again for some reason lol Take care..
Just got your full license? :) I just upgraded my Ninja 250 to a ZX-6R and I was completely awestruck by how much more power the ZX-6R. I felt like falling off the bike when I tried to red line it on 1st and the bike just has a life of its own after 7000 RPM, your video put a smile on my face and certainly reminded me of the first time I rode a 600
i'm 6'2 mate and have ridden this beast and its fine, obviously its not as roomy as other bikes, but i'm looking at get one myself after riding it, gorgeous looking machine and a lot of fun on a open and windy road XD
Tom, it seems you have the need for speed. Glad you enjoy the r6 so much, have fun and stay safe! I would also be interested in seeing a gear review video.
Yea, When I took my MSF course which was my first time ever on a bike, i thought covering the brake would be good until explained to me. And yes, you get quite a few points on your test if you cover the front brake at any point.
I used to do this as well. On a rider training class I did, though, they advised why it's not a good idea. In the event of a brown moment you're more likely to squeeze the brake on unnecessarily and cause yourself to lose the front end. If you're not using it keep your fingers off it. :)
I started years ago on a freaking vespa px 125 and wheelied it at the first redlights I hit it down, hahaha , was fun though. Truely this r6 for a beginnersbike, I wouldn't advise it, then again , with a bit of common sense and good training I guess it can be done. Nice bike, lovely review, enjoyed it, thanks for sharing!
You should be fine starting on a 600. A lot of people say start on a 250 and then switch but i dont agree. You will get bored with a small bike in a couple days. Take it easy on the 600's because give it a hand full in first or even in second if youre giving it hell when you shift and you will flip. Just take it easy and drive it normal and it wont be a problem at all. The r6 is a very easy bike to drive as its light weight and turns great. Currently own a r6 right now and love it.
Make sure you're careful and treat the bike with respect. Would hate to lose someone due wanting a super sport for their first bike. Be safe. All the gear. All the time.
Nice video over all mate. - Just a couple things. First off I just felt that the camera should have been pointed up a bit more - felt like I was always wanting to look up past where the screen ended. 2nd - Do you really ride all the time covering your brake? I understand when going through traffic or coming to a junction you are not sure about but you have it covered the whole time! Can't be comfortable and when accelerating you don't want to be on that brake.
I have never actually owned a super-sport bike, But I do have some riding experience. In the past, I did ride an older models of R6, R1 and Suzuki GSX-R600 , But most of my experience was on 250cc bikes. 600cc bikes are not recommended for people with little or no experience with bikes, but as long as you're responsible, and respect the bike, you should be fine. This is only my opinion, And remember that the R6 is a powerful machine.
I purchased a CBR250R for my first bike and i have NEVER riden a bike before.. I had the 250 for 1 week and i sold it and bought a 2008 R6.. As long as you're switched on and alert and respect the bike you'll be fine starting on a 600
Hey Tom, I noticed you purchased the Ninja over the r6 does it make you react/ smile like the R6? My mate has the 2012 zx10r and lawdy lord does it go- what made you go the ninja over the R6? Love your vids!
Hey dude. Love the video. Not talking power etc, but how did you feel the Yamaha was compared to the Kawasaki? I test drove the main four 600's (CBR600RR, GSXR600, ZX6r and the R6), before buying my R6. I felt it was quicker and more fun than the Honda. Comfier to use in traffic etc than the ZX6R and not as brutal as the GSXR (This was my first bike). Still have my R6. Love it. You think if you went to a 600 you'd go R6 or ZX6R as you're used to wakkas? Bet getting on your 250 was slow as hell?
Hi, you have some cool videos. I just have a quick question: Does your microphone come with the camera? How do you install it inside your helmet? Thanks!
Totally JUST bought one of these bikes on Saturday! It's my first bike and I've never rode before. Yes, I'm nervous but hey! Dove right in! (Wish Me Luck!) Yea the throttle is HELLA touchy. It's hard learning how much throttle & clutch to give it
Hey Tom nice review of the R6...your reviews are always appreciated. I was wondering how much km you put on your 250 before you decided to upgrade? I myself have a 250 and feel like I'm growing out of it and want to upgrade for the next season

How did you find the height of the R6 without lowering it?
I keep watching this video because I want this bike soo bad >.
***** Me too. Haha
Same :)

+SomoneOnYou got to demo my first R6 yesterday. The experience was very similar lol. "R6 where have you been all my life?"

That's an excellent representation of the R6 powerband and what separates it from the other 600's-that top end explosion.
The R6 is not scary. Until it is...
I've never even ridden a bike (looking to soon) and this has to be the best natural review video I've ever seen! Well played!
Can u please let go of that front brake
***** Its a dirt bike thing man, pretty sure he rides dirt bikes and you never let go of brake or clutch on a dirtbike
Taylor Martin nah hes a street rider
why is this a bad thing?
@@Ultrarc same as in a car you don't have both your feet on the accelerator and brake at the same time. he also doesn't have a grip on the throttle.
@@ytfrank4412 I've been covering my front brake on my bike since the time I almost rear ended a car which stopped suddenly in the city, don't see any real disadvantage as i've still got a grip on the throttle with my thumb and pointer finger

dude your comments are hilarious "R6 were you been all my life" my favorite .. lol getting an R6 this summer :D
You won't regret it one bit!
Deciding between ZX-6R or R6, 636 seems to be better suited for street with better midrange but the 2017 R6 looks and sounds sooooo good!
"I need 5 of them, tape 'em together"
hahahaha
I've been watching r6 vids all day and my love just keeps growing
Hey Tom, if you have to pick a bike between R6 and CBR600RR, which one would you pick?
I'm not tom, but the CBR = comfort / the R6 = Fun / Aesthetic.
I have done the ,same thing as you, took it for test ride ,i was sold right away ,this thing still put smile on my face ever since, thx,for video .
"it doesent feel scary at all" .... but i think the speeding fine will, especially in Australia:-D

I'm amazed you can twist the throttle with your fingers permanently on the brake. You were even doing it taking off from a standstill.
"How fast is a liter bike then?" -Tom
Oh young Tom, faster than your wildest dreams, but soon you will find out.
Tom is the dude in the video... Hence his name being Ridingwithtom...
YaBoyardee actually r6 06+ is known for high revs acceleration reminding of a 01 r1 model. its a yamaha thing
watched this video non-stop. Wanted an R6 since I started riding 5 years ago. Bought my R6 2 years ago. Smile on my face everyday since then :)

This bike is amazing! Is it the Raven edition? Gotta start saving now. Thanks for all the awesome videos!
Getting my R6 2012 this weekend cant wait :).
I want a Yamaha R6. Your bike is wonderful man
You should be fine starting on a 600.
Why give gas and then close the throttle and release it again all the time?
Hey mate, just wanted to ask if you only grip the throttle with your thumb, and why? I'm still learning. Love your vids BTW.
I have to try a CBR600RR, I'm a fan of honda's, it's just the CBR600RR is getting old now, it would be first on my list if it got refreshed
Hey! great review of a great bike. What camera system are you using?
I purchased a CBR250R for my first bike and i have NEVER riden a bike before.. I had the 250 for 1 week and i sold it and bought a 2008 R6.. As long as you're switched on and alert and respect the bike you'll be fine starting on a 600
Hey Tom, I noticed you purchased the Ninja over the r6 does it make you react/ smile like the R6? My mate has the 2012 zx10r and lawdy lord does it go- what made you go the ninja over the R6? Love your vids!
yeah , thank you very much :) this has helped a lot. once again thank you for taking the time to respond. -ZK-
so what was your old bike cbr250? how you feel about weight difference?
(Wish Me Luck!)
Yea the throttle is HELLA touchy.
This video made me in love with the r6
LAMS approved bike now, not restricted to 250cc. Bike has to have
I think this is one of the best reviews i have seen in a while ;)
