The Prime Minister called it "New Zealand's darkest day". Three years on, most of the city centre is still in ruins. "Christchurch was such a beautiful place. Look at it now, it's like a war zone", a Christchurch resident says. For many, attempts to move on with their lives are proving difficult. Lots have found that the answer is to move away from the city. "It's a city for people that are ready to move forward and want something new and bright. That's not really me right now", a Christchurch survivor explains.

I was only four years old when the earthquakes happened but at 6 years old i was diagnosed with PTSD bc of them. My heart goes out to those who died and they're families, bc even to this day, things will trigger what happened while I was sitting at preschool with my best friend watching a spider before all I saw was black.

@@angelmendoza754 ptsd is from severe trauma that doesnt usually happen hence it being traumatic. you can't just tell someone "don't worry" people died and buildings collapsed. mentally that scars you. your comment is very ignorant.

i was 7, i got diagnosed with PTSD from the quakes too, i lived in hornby at the time, but my grandparents lived five houses from the redzone
Oh boy, I have two sons. Losing either of them would be devastating. Heart goes out to those who lost their loved ones in the quake.
It's been over ten years since then. You cannot scrub the stench of death out of your brain. You can't get that image of a person laying there with hands out begging for help knowing they are dead.
I saw too many squashed people on the day that I call " When the Earth Devil Struck!"

I was badly injured and the Company never gave me any compensation and they new the back wall want go if we got another big shake after 4/9/10 well we did and my room disappeared with me under the rubble etc. I can’t work fall time anymore and don’t live in Christchurch
I can understand leaving Christchurch after the quake, but to Auckland of all places, Bagdad would of been a better option
As an Australian living in Durham Street North, Christchurch in 2010 and 2011, I was very aware of the locals feelings towards Auckland. I miss ChCh and want to return to see it reborn. Auckland and Wellington were amazing as well.

pelon Martinez: Instead of praying to a string of lifeless beads: Why don't you pray directly to The Living God through his son Jesus ? It will do you a lot more good than running through some repetitive monotone prayer to the sinful mother of Jesus. Mary is NOT "The mother of God"!! She had to be forgiven of her sins, and be saved by the Son she bore . Why don't you ask God to protect these people?
