- 1990ish....Driving in a Volga. I think.. We drove by the KGB office and our driver begged us not to film and of course we did.. and we survived......
****As a TV Photog, I've filmed many interesting events since 1981, so I've decided to archive most of my videos online ... once on google it will never go away.. my hard drives fail after a year or two.. Not only does life look more casual, but it looks rather American does it not? Cars, traffic, smoking (it is the 80's after all), busy sidewalks, some pedlers selling stuff. But if anything, these streets look more relaxed than New York. Such amazing footage this is, showing just how similar life in the USSR was to what we in the west may identify with. Also, the quality of the picture is astonishing, and somewhat baffling to me actually. None the less....great video id say! This is art.

If the great influence of capitalism is also right, I think that the USSR was always capitalism because of its economic model, that's why there are cars, transport, food, fashion, technology, but although its national facade was communist and Soviet, but in economic models and lifestyle more than middle class capitalism

That is not a 3102 Volga! A regular GAZ 2410 taxicab modification.

Rick Suddeth You attributed some of your other videos incorrectly. Apartment was filmed no earlier than in 1990, because guys there have 1990 wall calendar on their door. Grocery store looks much more like 1988 or 1989, if not 1990. Department store seems to be filmed in 1990 or even spring 1991, judging by price tags and girls chewing gum so openly. I think it's 1991, because "News Corner" is not dated, and was filmed in Leningrad (St. Petersburg) on late Spring of 1991: they discuss upcoming presidential elections with Yeltsin as principal candidate, and that only happened in 1991 and then in 1996. Also, one of posters demands renaming Leningrad back to St. Petersburg, and such legislation was passed on September 6th, 1991.
Actually, this Toyota Hiace model were produced from 1988

wow! this film it's so clear that it isn't even look you was in the 80's. Does the moscow traffic smelled bad? cos when my dad went to it in that years he told me that you can smell exhaust everywhere even inside in his hotel
I expect everything was running on 76 octane fuel. Even now, Russian fuel (and exhaust) smells different - a sort of heavy, pungent smell that implies few "light" fractions of oil.

То, что это позднеперестроечное время - это однозначно! В 1986-м мои родители только квартиру новую получили. Подобный, тому, что на видео, универсам на Осенней улице тогда ломился - мы полные сумки еженедельно таскали. И кафетерий работал и игровые автоматы стояли - народу было полно. Разнообразия продуктов, конечно, особо не было, и обстановка (дизайн помещений был скуден), но вообще все полки были полны. И сыры/колбасы всякие и консервы. А вот в 1990-1991, когда появились талоны и на полках, и в морозилках стало дико пусто. Люди с недоумением разглядывали прилавки, т.к. выбрасывали какую-то ерунду коробками, типа макарон или кукурузных хлопьев и всё - голяк. Помню, летом 1990-го родители меня в лагерь отправляя, на море, не могли в Центральном Детском мире найти ничего, кроме однотипных шортиков пионерских и белых гольфов с красной каёмкой. Пусто было. А к сентябрю уже одни галстуки в отделе висели. Такая вот невесёлая ирония. И, к слову, добавлю - мы жили до перестройки обеспеченно. Обладали всеми необходимыми бытовыми благами, которые выпускала тогда промышленность СССР и братских соцстран от пылесоса Тайфун до кассетного магнитофона Романтик. Автомобиль имелся в семье с 1979, видака, правда, не было. Семья из 4-х человек, родители в строительно-проектном бюро работали, если что. Ездили в отпуск на море каждое лето, также отдыхали в Чехословакии, Болгарии и Сингапуре. У мужа, если что - это уже в селе, (аналогичная семья - 4 человека) вообще родители счёт в банке на несколько тысяч имели. На каждого ребёнка была страховка и в госстрахе, и счёт накопительный до достижения детьми 18 лет. Жалеют до сих пор, что не успели купить на эти деньги хоть пару-тройку Жигулей, до обрушения. Все деньги сгорели.
Судя по номеру на копейке в 2:44 (серия МТ) - не ранее 1990 г.

Внимание! На трафарете проехавшего троллейбуса № 9 стоит старая ещё маршрутная надпись: "Гостиница Останкино - Площадь Дзержинского", а на проехавшем следом троллейбусе № 40 новый трафарет: "Гостиница Турист - Лубянская площадь". Т.е. ещё не на всех троллейбусах поменяли. Следовательно, я датирую эту видеозапись августом-сентябрём 1991 года, поскольку на улицах тепло. Кстати, Википедия на этот счёт вообще даёт неверные сведения - что площадь переименована в Лубянскую в 1968 году.

Was traffic better than what we see in Russian dashcam videos? in this video seems everyone driving in line and no single crazy driver.
Traffic WAS better, because much fewer people could afford a car then, AND Moscow was not as overpopulated as it is now.

Nope, it was not. As you can see in this video - people easily overtake the traffic jam using the opposite direction lane. That's savage.
***** On that exact street (Bolshaya Lubyanka) it was tolerated until the most recent times, as the opposite lane was for trolleybuses only. Several years ago both Bolshaya Lubyanka and Sretenka streets were made one-way without exceptions. Pokrovka and Maroseika still have PT-only opposite lane even after recent works... because otherwise you'll have no other way to for buses and trolleybuses to get to Lubyanskaya square.
Ignat Solovey Pretty much the same as Gorohovaya and Voznesensky in St. Petersburg. Nevetheless, nowdays it is considered as an awful savagery when someone tries to drive the wrong side of the road.
Toyota van and Moskvitch 2141 make it at least 1990.
Moskvitch 2141 production was launched in 1986 and mass production in 1987, so it can easily be several years earlier. Toyota minivan could easily belong to some embassy... what's more interesting, it doesn't have local license plates.

tnak100 You don't know about real production by Moscvitch plant. The REAL cars appeared for sale at 1989, and the one in this video is at least 1990 prod. year, judging by the body color.
Михаил Чистяков No. Look at the registration plate. That Moskvich has been registered in 1988-89(May). And could be built some time before.
And there's an 2101 at 2:44 with an MT registration plate. That's 1990-1991 (unfortunately I can't distinguish the 1st char).

там много иномарок в кадре если внимательно смотреть, БМВ 7-серии, Мерседес Е-класса, Вольво, Ниссан Патрол, Ниссан Урван/Караван, еще помоему какой то старый американец
