@@travistuttle6330 what i meant is tigers and many other creatures back in a day were much stronger and bigger than nowadays as they had to evolve to smaller or different forms to survive so even after evolving to such size they still got such a powerful roar.
yea fairly certain some monsters would annihilate your ears even if you cover or have them plugged. and some monster could probably destroy your soul all together.
If you stand too close to tigrex you’ll get damaged by the roar, but if you stand a bit further away or behind it you’ll get frozen by the roar like with every other monster. I assume that is why its considered strong
You should see Brute Tigrex in MHW Iceborne, he has a literal roar beam. Tigrex's have some strong lungs, and even in the lore (if i remember correctly), Tigrex can roar so loud that sometimes they break some of their own ribs because of it
Diablos still has my favorite roar, it's so unique and iconic compared to a lot of the other cast monsters. Beetlejuice and Valstonks still have really cool ones, but mostly because they don't sound completely like monsters.
What I truly love with those powerful roar, especially Gaismagorm, is that due to their size, they have to take a big breath before unleashing their roar. Gaismagorm is among my favorite monster roar due to how long it take for him to roar, it makes a build that he is about to roar at his mightiest, especially on the last phase, this monster, despite being now easier to fight, is among my favorite that I am ready to fight it back. Edit: The sound design team truly made his roar something that, personally, is a memorable roar from a memorable boss fight, already this thing could be considered a Kaïju, it sounds like a Kaïju.
To know which roar is powerful or not, count the number of shockwaves. The more powerful the roar is, the more shockwave it got that will freeze your char. Weak roar got mainly one shockwave, so if you dodge it, then you can enter the range and DPS for the rest of the roar animation.
Too bad we cannot measure the strength of the ginormous Monksnail. That thing can make a freaking roar aswell somehow. But animation wise each time the Monksnail make a roar, it only create a single shockwave, however it looks to be very powerful judging from the shockwave animation.
Defiance lv3 definitely makes a lot of these roars do nothing when enraged, plus some extra defense to go along with it. Saves up on slots, then just counter the regular roars for buffs or free damage.
Really appreciate this, I tend to still put in Earplugs or Defiance whenever I hunt because I grew up as a Hammer guy on the older titles. While QoL skills like those aren’t as useful due to wire bugs now, still nice to use

Diablos is a very memorable one to me. His roar will make all the cephhalos and even a cephadrome came out (yeah I am that old) He is also the best monster to fight with lance. His move can be easily predicted
The most iconic roar for me is still bloodbath diablos from mhxx. When he enraged for the final time, his roar just give you that "you're fucking dead" vibes

Some is possible to roll them without any help, others you may need Evasion, others can't be rolled. Oh well, but you can counter/parry/guardpoint them!

Maybe, but the roars when enraged are pretty good and have the same effect and power as narwa and ibushi. A wasted potential I didnt know that somnacanth and anjanath needed a strong earplugs. Good video
Although “Apex bad/nobody cares about them” Credit where it’s due I found the apex roars cool. The screen blurs and your ears are ringing. They had that powerful effect in a way.
Only counterpoint is that there are Apexes in Anomaly Investigations, and they’re worth a lot of points, so I fight them a lot. If you make a follow-up with the Apexes, I’ll watch it
Thank fuck, nobody made one for rise/sunbreak so this is a godsend, please consider making a final version when all dlc has been made if you have time, also apex lol

I just don't use earplugs, I prefer to use my dual blades' demon flight iFrames to dodge through roars and also get some sharpness back with Ironshine Silk
Kinda crappy that Earplug is a level 3 deco when Defiance is level 1 and overall just much better, even when Defiance is only active while monsters are enraged.
Since people are asking, Apex Monsters have Strong Roars (except for Apex Zinogre) and Powerful Roars when enraging Insect Glaive also gives immunity to all roars tiers with White and Orange extracts active
Golden rathian legs plus two lvl 1 gold rathian stones can basically make you shock/wind and scream proof onve the monster is enraged. For me thats was the best addition
The sound design isn't bad, but I feel like these might suffer from not having more sound range so to speak, like, these don't really sound that much louder than a barrel bomb exploding, or timing certain counters correctly, and as the game afaik doesn't have a similar audio range feature like in World where many ambient sounds pale in comparison to monsters thrashing or roaring, some of these feel very odd. Like, Malzeno has a pretty loud screech which based on the sound I would expect to be powerful, especially considering Teostra or Kushala being on the same strong tier, and some of the 'weak' roars like Aknosom or Raths come off as being very loud to me Nargacuga's roar also strikes off as being strong to me, while Almudron, Gore Magala or even Rajang roars don'r really feel that 'loud'
What about Rajang's roar when his arms start glowing red? You get knocked back when standing too close, but you don't take damage, so what type of roar is that? Strong one with added knockback?
Whenever Rajang gets pissed, his roars won't freeze you, & I'm pretty sure same goes for when his arms go red. Unlike Tigrex, who has a strong damaging roar that does freeze you. Been like that since Iceborne far as I know but I could be wrong.

btw you forgot rathlos and apex. when rathlos is not in rage hes roar is weak. when he enters rage mode hes roar is strong. and apex when not in rage when they spot you there roar is strong. and when in rage mode there roar is powerful
Tbh I find it normal that her pitch is louder, as she is the representation of a siren, of course her voice would be more powerful that just a growl from both of them.

I've always assumed powerful roars were the ones that could harm you, no idea that tigrex's was just an attack rather than a powerful roar.
It’s classified as an attack since your hunter will go “watch out/incoming!” whenever a monster initiates a strong attack

Also Defiance lv.5 can negated Apexes’ Roar. My HH set got max lv and I was like walk in the park.

earplugs is a lvl 4 deco which is way more efficient than the lvl 3. But yeah defiance is op

Embolden is a crazy skill that helps maximize defiance and agitator uptime, even at level 1.
