The crowd noise on the chorus is sensational, sends shivers down the spine. No wonder this is used as the Iron Maiden track on so many compilation albums.

I thought this was the album version, and that the crowd sound was added in the studio and part of the actual compostion for like 10 years after discovering the song.
Needless to stay, I was extremely disappointed when I finally heard the actual album version. Almost sounds like some teen amateur cover band. This will always be the "real" version to me :D

This was recorded at Thursday 27. August 1992 in Helsinki Ice Hall, Finland while Iron Maiden was in Fear Of The Dark Tour. This record "A Real Live One" where this version is, was released at 1993 and Fear Of The Dark is the last track of this album. You can hear clearly at 5:14 that Mr. Dickinson mention "Helsinki".

I knew a co-worker that was there, 18 years after the fact he was still getting misty eyed about it. This guy was a real hard-ass metal fabricator that routinely handled scolding hot parts with no gloves on etc. manly shit.

My uncle, a lifelong metalhead offered me tickets to the concert when I was 14. I had seen many more recent bands. To me, Maiden was just an old band I liked, but after the concert, it had become one of my favorite bands. I was front row and it was an epiphany. I've seen them 6 or 7 times now.
