Dave -although this might not totally enjoyable for you moving, you have made it enjoyable to watch! We have all been there one way or another!
My one piece of advice: Don’t get bogged down trying to figure out what throw away as you are moving. It just slows the process. Do that when everything is moved and as you unpack decide what to toss out then, or give away or you may be happy you kept it. As the old saying goes…..Haste makes waste!
Hey, Dave! I'm excited about the move. GREAT job! Looking forward to the next installment.
The only constant in this old world is Change and we must change with it or forever be left behind! Laissez les bon temps rouler!!! I love seeing what you build and how you build it!
Its your Railroad. New Start, new looks. What can I help you with. I say that home is what you make it.
Kudos to you both for a job well done and tell Nina we appreciate the help!
You should take that AC unit out of the wall and have a little scene that comes off of the main layout and into the front room on a shelf. Could even be an automated back and fourth trolly. Would just be cool since you can not fit the Bandit Canyon RR in the front room, guests would still be welcomed by something before they enter the main train room. Looking great so far Dave. I am intrigued to see how the new space gets filled!!
Was just about to make a similar comment, remove the a/c unit if you aren't using it.
Hi Dave. It looks like you are doing fine seeing what goes where. You design/building area looks nice and cozy with most everything you need close to you. I am looking forward to watching your progress. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us.
Would also make for a good staging yard off the layout
If you're happy that's what counts, enjoy what you have .
I've considered that!
our layout is being built in our garage! we love it getting drywall up now.
These videos aren't boring. There inspiring!! I am going to go out and clean out my garage. 😂. As always.. Thank you
Thank you!
I agree not boring. Will be interesting to watch the cleanup of the train room. This is much more realistic and shows what it's like to transform a space.
The workspace is looking great Dave. Looks a better set up that the other one. Shame you can't fit a small layout in there.
While I'm looking forward to seeing you back to modelling, I also enjoy seeing how folks plan out their layout areas from the start. And of course for you, this is a "clean" slate.
An early drawing, even if only a rough copy will help folks understand more what you have in mind. Even though no doubt it will change as you move forward.
Keep up the good work, and take care. Regards Rob.
Seriously? A Train nut with a Phaser!!! LOL Love It... Live long and prosper!
Whether you are building a model or moving you are a great storyteller. I enjoy your videos whatever they are about!
Thank you
New model making shop looks great Dave! Excited to see the rest of the new space take shape
Dave,
No need to reply but thank you SO much for this video.
Frankly, after the first video showing the new space I was disappointed FOR you :(
I was hoping you would have a pristine, wonderful space with central heat and air and an easy move in.
I didn’t know from that video that you at least had a swamp cooler (yes, I lived in the South for decades before I escaped).
Like others, I was concerned about your comfort. You are a treasure and we want you well cared for:)
And, when I saw all the shelving that had to come down and the walls that needed to be repaired I was bummed out for you.
In my book, you deserved WAY better.
But, as you do so well, in this video you answered all of my concerns and I feel WAY better for you.
Now, I can be happy for you!!!
And, having the front room set up helps a lot in making it seem like your space.
I’m excited!!!
The moving videos are fun. Easy for me to say since you are doing the work :)
I’ll be curious to see what the last thing will be that get’s moved out of the old space???
You should hold a contest to raise money.
Thank you, and all of the protection and blessings in the world to you.

Your wonderful personality is a big draw for this channel, it’s a joy to spend/interact with your videos no matter the topic. Never apologize for the source of your content, I’m sure just like me many of us enjoy keeping in touch with what’s going on in your life. You always bring a bit of light and joy, thank you for including us!
I’m currently in a bit of a shop remodel and it’s work but it’s fun and it gives you a chance to learn from the past and adapt.
I'm impressed. You accomplished that part of the move in 3 days! Love your modeling skills.
I really like your new space, Dave. I think it will be a great time.
Hopefully it's not too expensive. I'm looking forward to seeing how you fit everything in the space.
Keep on moving forward my friend.😊
The rent is lower than the old space
Geez....you make me feel like a lazy slug....I can't seem to even find the energy to rearrange my junk drawer. Can't wait for the painting of the backdrop scenery. 😉
Hi Dave. I grew up in the Phoenix Valley but now live in NJ. I wish I was still out there so I could have come to visit Thunder Mesa Studio, both in Jerome and in the new place. Jerome does have a certain mystique to it but I am confident the new place is going to be even better for you - for all the reasons you mentioned. Anyway, long time watcher of your channel, and your videos are always top of my list to watch. I truly enjoy your content, and the way you present the material. My channel has no hint of the production quality of Thunder Mesa Studios, and I chalk that up to you being a true artist, and me not having an artistic fiber (let alone bone) in my body. I am an engineer by training and by traits, and the magic that you, and many other artists on RUclips, bring to the hobby is truly awe inspiring for me. Thanks so much for all the great content and I hope it will continue to be rewarding for you so that we can all continue to benefit from your expertise. Take care, Rick
Dave, love the new place. Your workdesk looks awesome with the orientation towards the window with a view of the street. I also like that it is divided to define the space a bit more. Happy modeling in your new home.
Yeah, I think it will be a good place to work.
Not that you need any tips or asked but when using expanding foam (great stuff), if your having to fill a large gap with a lot of foam spray a little water into the opening. The expanding foam tends not to cure if it doesn't get any air. I use that foam a lot for prop making and had to learn that trick as well. Excited to see how it comes together and great to see your not doing it all yourself!
You definitely portrayed the Jerome studio well. We can't wait to visit your new digs.
YES! Backdrop painting. I definitely want to see all of that. Looking forward to, well, everything. 😁
Coming up!
Looks great Dave! You're doing it! I'm sure the back will work well. You have a positive can do attitude. Thanks for sharing!
That looks like a lot nicer set up! (and I gotta get my '67 Disneyland map mounted)
It's nice to watch somebody else go through this. We all go through it one time or another. ( The dreaded move. ) 🙀
Moving sucks but especially when you're doing it alone! I do hope you're getting plenty of help moving! Enjoy watching your videos! 👍
I do have help for the big heavy stuff. Thank you!
I absolutely love the Star Trek TOS phaser on your wall. Never noticed it before. 🖖
Your framed art and memorabilia was hung very straight. Oh, and nice new space.,
I used to own a gallery. Crooked pictures drive me nuts!
Dave, I think we are all excited about your vision for the new space! I check for new videos from you every week hoping for more content, yes the moving videos are not as fun as the build ones but please keep any and all the content coming!
I already ordered the nail polish rack for my paint bottles. What a great idea 💡. I do have to wait two days for delivery. WOW! Am I spoiled by Amazon! Love it.
Thank you for the gracious manner in which you explained some followers’ worries about the use of your new space. Even though I don’t feel that you need to explain such issues, it’s only people who feel personally invested in your endeavor who bring up such concerns. They worry about you because they care. You let all of us in on the journey of moving your studio. I appreciate your explanations!
Congratulations on the bonus plywood, that's worth the move right there. I saw the roll up, my first thought how nice that'll be with fresh air and light. Can't wait to visit the new digs.
THANK YOU for letting me know where you go the acrylic paint rack! It's for nail polish! Woo hoo! I'll be able to get my paints out of that inconvenient shipping box and to organize them!
I really like the new workshop set up. great start to this new adventure.
Thanks for the update. I had some of the concerns you addressed and it all makes sense now.
I look forward to your next report.
By the way we had a big thunder storm this afternoon that delayed the returning trains by about an hour and a half. We have a lot of cleanup after the hail cleaned the leafs from the trees and made Swiss cheese out of the green house.
We will keep moving forward. Thanks for all you do.
Looking awsome. Your doing well, but you really need to NOT stress out. I hope you will find a more calm place in your mind now when you set up your workspace. Looked and sounded as you did there in the end of the video.
Just love follow this move to new location. No matter what it´s one bolt at the time until it´s done and you do great work at it.
Regards from Sweden.
You keep doing you. I gain so much inspiration from seeing how well thought out your model railway journey is. As you explain in your video you did a lot of thinking and homework before you picked this new space. As much as I enjoy and marvel at your wonderful models, what I truly value is how you explain the thinking, planning and theory that goes on before the magic starts. Often the why of something model related isn't shown and talked about as is the how. Remember, lift carefully, you only have one back.
Thank you
Dave, your model making area is very nice. Looking forward to your progress on “the back room”
Dear Dave, must say I love the moving stuff! Cool to hear how you addressed the different comments you received. Especially the one on the Jerome studio’s upkeep. Do remember you once or twice showed those moving curtains! Anyhow, just as with your builds it’s obvious you have a plan, and when a man has a plan, it simply is going to work! Looking forward to seeing the train room move. Cheerio
The Opening Intro scene is a nice "fix" for missing Thunder Mesa trains during the Move to your New Model Shop and Layout Room. Love the photo on your computer's desktop. Experience has taught that "Poverty" does not own a One Hundred year old building. Poverty of Greed, however, does, and Poverty of Foresight can and often will refuse to invest in Maintenance and Tenant satisfaction, to the detriment of all concerned. Ownership is often wasted on those possessing this Mindset Poverty, which often results in the deterioration of Historical Buildings due to deliberate Owner Neglect.
Sad but true.
Looks like you got a good start where's the studio and good luck with the reconstruction of your railroad 👍👍
Looks like you're settling in well. Lol the ac issue, I'm glad I'm not the only one pointing that out. Now learning of the conditions of the old studio, I'm really happy for you now to have a better place to do your craft. Thank you for sharing. And yes you did a great job hiding the unpleasantness of the old studio.
Looks like your getting the new place to look like home. I’m anxious to see the layouts go in. You’re an inspiration to my work here.
I think you making video of moving is really beneficial for a lot of people having to move their layouts.
You went at with both feet the work area looks good
I did like the blue/grey paint behind your Jorome desk. But the new place will be cool. Im willing to bet not many will notice after a while.
Even your moving videos are entertaining.
I'm excited to see the new space take form! Will I miss the view of the old studio? Sure! The new site has so much potential though without bad structure arrangement of doors and windows.
Dave all your videos are great! I miss hanging out in the Verde Valley.
I'm totally with you Dave, you have made wise and practical choices. Looking forward to future videos when you can 🙂
I attended 1-3rd grades in a school building in Miami, AZ that was similar to the old high school in Jerome. The climate control was non-existent. I’m with you, Dave. The new studio will be a much better for you. Even had flashbacks to that time when I walked into the building. lol!
That new work space looks great. Can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve for the next part of the move. Looking forward to the next video.
GOD BLESS 🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕
Great update and perspective on your move! If the tool box is the only thing you couldn't fit (at least presently), that's not bad at all. Looking forward to future videos!
Good video and looking forward to watching your new adventures to come! 😊
That AC unit is known as the "Boss AC". When the boss feels things are going too slow, he says "Boys, your molasses tempo is making me a might hot under the collar, I'm going to retire to my office and turn on the AC until you get caught up."
It doesn't work very well for a sole proprietor though.
Good luck with the move Dave . Better you than me. Everything looks fine to me other than that small aircon unit. Nothing preventing you from moving it so it vents to the outside as it should, i.e. in a window or above the entry door, or just put it into deep storage. It would also make a reasonable anchor if you have a small boat.
That's a lot of work for one guy but the new location is going to be great. Good luck getting the train room the way you want it.
I get by with a little help from my friends
Salut de Belgique Dave, Beaucoup de courage pour cette nouvelle installation, j'attends les prochaines vidéos avec impatience.
Hello from Belgium Dave, Lots of courage for this new installation, I'm looking forward to the next videos.
Well …all it needs now is for your old landlord to have their next tenant seriously default on their rent to make them wish they had kept hold of you; and (I assume) agreed a more favourable rent review, lease terms with you; and kept that facility better maintained. BUT well done for making such good progress with the move - never much fun and a LOT of work. Onwards and Upwards. Sounds like it’s a WIN WIN for you. 🚂🧨⛏🧨⛏🇬🇧🚂
Looking good 👍
My only disappointment was looking forward to seeing how you were going to make Joshua Trees, maybe Next Year.
Soon!
Usually about the 5th day of a 3 day move, I take a pause and think "where did I get all of this...stuff?"
I'm there
I think its good to see all the background infrastructure that makes model railways possible. These things don't happen by magic 😂
The first 6 minutes wore me out just watching and the remainder showed how much the "upgrade" means to you. Congratulations!
Lol😂
"We like the dark," said all the dwarves. "Dark for dark business!"
Good job!
What? No delusions of John Allan Dave? LOL. Keep up the great work, love your concepts.
I always look at the G&D and thought, "Wow, that's amazing. And what a lot of track to clean!"
@@ThunderMesaStudio Indeed. There is that one nasty fact. LOL
Already looking great.👍
new workshop looks great good job
I'm fortunate. I have a spare room. Not huge, but serviceable.
Thanks!
Thank you!
I always thought an old schoolroom would make a great train room but it would definitely be drafty and the windows would have to be blacked out. I’m in Ohio where we have to always worry about moisture. I wouldn’t put a layout in the garage due to humidity and as waterproof as my basement is there’s always the worry of a monsoon swamping the layout anyway.
I woulkdn't want you to build a BIGGER layout, but a LARGER one...not so much more extensive trackwork, but if you had a bigger space the place more SCENERY between stations and focus points to expand your vision...with possibly some Gorre & Daphedid style to-the-floor rockwork. Also...as you build the revised Thunbder Mesa...have you consider making the WHOLE THING portible, so occasionally you could take it to a MAJOR train show like Amherst...I know it would take a LOT of logistics to do, but it WOULD be the ultimate way to show off your artistrty. I honestly see you as the (worthy) sucessor to Malcom Furlow.
So cool. 🚂
What part of AZ. are you in😊 my hubby worked for SF/BNSF for 39 years. I do diorama’s for model horses. I love watching you when it comes to rocks, Wild West builds.
To bad the Bandit Canyon won't fit in the front office space, it would have been a great introduction to what's coming in the next room
It will still have a special place
It always amazes me non creative people dont like change. Creative people enjoy the challenge and the happy accidents that come with. Good Luck on the move and your happy accidents along the way. Has well as your new neighbors neighbors. The older I get i realize its the journey not the destination.
The journey for sure. That's why we keep moving forward
Don't forget the fundamental rule of RUclips; Everything you do is wrong, and if it's not wrong it's because you've overlooked something.
Why not do a mini split unit here in texas we use them and they work well in 100 plus degree weather fairly cheap also
It's scary doing something new. Doors close and new ones open. The Jerome location was so comfortable. I think this location is better though. I think you are more accessible to the public now.. maybe you don't want that, but I'm greedy and want to see you wave at people walking by. 😊
Nice workshop Dave... Appreciate you acknowledging the heat concerns that I and others have made. From your explanation, all should be well for you in the new space. It's sounds like you'll be more than happy in the new location, best wishes to you in the new space!
That "Jeep" crate is pretty darn slick!! Is that something you can buy on its own, or do you have to purchase "Jeep" accessories to get them?
I have a couple of machine tools that would fit great in a few of those... Looking at a major house move in a few years, and a few of those crates would be great.
Those are the crates that MOPAR Jeep lift kits come in. My wife and I have lifted a few (Jeeps are her job and her hobby).
@@ThunderMesaStudio Bummer... Thanks for the info though!
Yup agreed... there was a time when I wanted to build a huge layout. Not anymore, I have 10x15 feet and its plenty. It will take many many years to build my vision. If I used my entire basement I'd be in the ground before it was done.
Amen
My only concern is that I haven't had the opportunity to visit!
Do you have the Haboob, like Phoenix? In northeastern AZ, where I used to live, there could be 70 to 90 mph winds in the Spring. Those kinds of winds would be the only thing, I think, that might rattle the rollup door in your new location, even though it may be insulated. The winds in NE AZ were hellish, and ripped off roofing. I don't think they ever flipped over any trailers, but nevertheless, were definitely something to deal with.
Just do you. The only person you have to please is you.
Gee, it sure looks like fun to be moving in 100deg heat. NOT!
The new work space already looks like "home". It does appear that you are "eating an elephant one stop at a time".
This is better.
Maybe only looks this way in the video similar to making your old space look better than it is, but you made short work of that move.
A comment and a question. I like the way you build smaller layouts for display or operation by one person. I’ve seen huge layouts and you need several people to operate and even maintain them. And do you attend any of the Narrow Gauge Conventions?
I'll get to a convention if it isn't too far away
Surprised you don’t have an army of volunteers to help you. I’d definitely help but I’m about 800 miles away.
Dave,
Where did you get your large Cutting matts?
They're made by Fiskers and I get them on Amazon
Personal question that I have no business asking, do you make a living off of model railroading? I’ve always assumed you paid the bills by selling your artwork, but I don’t see a space for that endeavor in the new shop. Also, will you eventually have “open studio” nights like you did in the previous place? Best wishes going forward!
I'm semi-retired from graphic design and Illustration, most of which is done on the computer. Model making and these videos now make up a substantial part of my income.
@@ThunderMesaStudio SWEET! I love it when a plan comes together!
I would love to have had the opportunity to help u but if u r like me I don't want people touching my stuff and this kind of move is one I need to do myself with no help. I sure hope your new studio is a secure place. I would hate to see anything happen to it like that model r.r. exhibition back east (?) Where a couple of vandals got in and destroyed the whole exhibition, destroyed everything. Good luck.
Why anyone thinks him moving is their business is beyond me. 🤔
Danger!
Blasting Area Ahead.
Shouldn’t that sign read:
Road Closed
m.ruclips.net/video/gGDHoqZcVMU/видео.html&pp=ygUZQnJpYW4gcmVnYW4gYmxhc3RpbmcgYXJlYQ%3D%3D
Will you let passersby watch you work? I think that would be kinda cool.
Not too many passersby here.
@@ThunderMesaStudio lol
You need a pedometer to track your mileage...
