When you're an offensive tackle, kneeling at the line of scrimmage, staring the defense in the eyes, you have one thing on your mind: Protect the quarterback. For nine seasons in the NFL, that is exactly what Mitchell Schwartz did; first with the Cleveland Browns and then with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he received All-Pro honors and - no big deal - won a Super Bowl.
During his journey through the NFL, he picked up a few things along the way. He published a book, became something of a celebrity amateur chef, and built an impressive collection of watches. His watch story goes all the way back to his childhood in Los Angeles, where he remembers wearing the classic Mickey Mouse watch.
His current collection is vast - running the gamut from digital G-Shock to the holy trinity in Vacheron Constantin, with a variety of amazing pieces in between. Each watch has a story behind it, including an extra special watch given to him by a certain well-known teammate.
It's been a while since our last edition of this series, and we couldn't be more excited to have it back. This is your Talking Watches with Mitchell Schwartz. - Развлечения
"I have an Omega, you're not gonna believe this but it's a limited edition"
Definitely the best line of the video
@Drake Dariel oh wow thanks definitely-not-fake-friend Drake Daniel. Hey everyone, search for the thing! Give your dollars! Go!
DIG
that broiler and pizza stone method is big secret technique
he's so humble
Now this guy is a real watch enthusiast! Humble and authentic. Great mix of pieces.
Thank you! Happy with my collection these days, that's for sure
sooo true! LOVED this!
just the most boring interview, bring back Ben to try to fuel some enthusiasm.
a zoom call does not do it justice, it just sucks.
please go back to the 'cafe' days and lay out 8 pieces and talk for 25 min.
Appears to be a real likeable person. But I would not call one humble who shows off his seven-figure value watch collection.
@@tomaszhoekstra7357 hey if you want high energy go watch Nico Vanderhorst! This seemed perfect to me, a casual interview and conversation about watches! nothing wrong with it. And commenting the same thing over and over doesnt help anything haha
Was not expecting such a collection. This guy really, really knows what he’s doing.
Appreciate it!
@@mitchschwartz71 Mitch, who is the most skilled DL you’ve ever faced?
I seen him with teddy that’s I
Never did a Rolex look so underwhelming in a collection. Love it 👍🏻
Thank you
The only thing impressive about R. is their marketing, because they immediately pop up in everybody's mind when discussing expensive time pieces. Other than that, they're probably the most underwhelming expensive-watch brand there is.
Mitchell seemed like a cool guy...pretty laid back and not snobby about his success...good for him and best of luck to him
Thank you Mark
And that's the kind of athlete you need to see more of. I enjoyed his video with Teddy, he bought practical watches nothing bling out or showy and he knows what he's doing with the watches and how they work which is even better because he can tell he appreciates their history and mechanics. He wasn't buying to show he has money, he bought watches that he's going to USE
He's an O-Lineman those guys are pretty humble/down to earth. But yes great collection and seems like a cool af dude.
Finally Talking Watches is back! 🍻🍻
And a really cool one on top of that, I missed the good old Hodinkee!
@@marvinberwart Yea, 100% agree!
Now we are waiting a video from you my friend! With another epic watch collection
@@inghernangarces7117 coming in April 🚀😊
The editing in this is really good. It doesn't go unnoticed 👍🏾
Yes indeed. Very well pieced together.
Didn’t notice 🤷♂️
For sure, they did a great job!
@@mitchschwartz71 OMG It's you! Great video, super jealous of your collection :)
@@Maazin5 Thanks!
You know you’re in deep when you’re buying zeitwerk striking times...
Tell me about it. It's an insane watch though, that one hurt and I haven't regretting it for one second since.
@@mitchschwartz71 one day I’ll join you! One day
@@mitchschwartz71 Did you consider the Zeitwerk Date or were you always set on the striking time? I am so torn.
@@srp006 I considered the date. At the end of the day the Striking is much cooler and more fun. A bunch of other watches have a date on it, and while I obviously love having it, sound > date, especially when we've all got a smart phone handy. I also liked the contrasting colors of black dial and white metal more than the monochrome aesthetic of the Date. And lastly, the Date had just come out and was expensive AF and I got this one at a killer price. For even money I'd still take the Striking though for all those reasons.
biggest downer is the lack of enthusiasm in the format, good watches, but we need passion. it is just a boring interview. bring back Ben with passion please
I love how eclectic Mitch's tastes are. Buying it because he likes the look of it and not bc it conforms to some idea of wealth or success. I enjoyed this snapshot into his collection very much.
Thanks so much Chauncey!
Great to see a Hodinkee video not self publicising someone's promotion "I bought this Rolex when I got my promotion, you people work hard and you can have one too". This guy clearly has no need to flex, he's just a boss
Thanks David!
@@mitchschwartz71 - and he takes his time to reply, total class!!!
So cool to see a big man interested in watches, it often feels like the watch world forgets about big wrists
Thanks Doug, had to hold it down for the big wristed folk!
Lol I would disagree with that, most new releases are 39mm and up. Dress watches are now the size of the SeaDweller of a few years ago.
Need a Talking Watches with the Grand Tour
Unbelievable collection! This guy seems like a thoughtful and purposeful collector with great taste.
Thanks Martin, I try and think my way around every purchase. Not many impulse grabs for me, I like to do research and be good and sure before acquiring.
Honestly I was not expecting to see JLC and the F.P Journe truely caught me off guard. Glad to see such a great collection from a world class athlete that isn't just RMs or Rolexes
Glad he talked about his wrist size. Many in the watch game give the old, "47mm is too big for anyone. It's a disgrace to make a watch that large." Ok, you with your 6 inch wrist can fit any watch comfortably. Some of us have bigger wrists and wish we could do that. For us thick-wristed fellas, the struggle is real...
Mehh, struggle is real with 6 inch wrist my dude... especially if you’re into Panerai and offshores...
Tbf there are more big watches than there are small
Yea, once had someone try to tell me 44mm Panerai was the biggest anyone should wear and definitely not more than that. Just had to laugh.
You can wear a small watch on a big wrist lol. It doesn't affect the function at all.
However, if your watch is too large, it does not work on a small wrist. It literally falls off the side.
I’d rather have big wrist. I have narrow 6 inch wrist and it’s HARD to find a watch that fits perfectly. I can’t do wrist shots because it just doesn’t look as good I’m aiming for a 34mm Rolex OP or airking. My 36mm seamaster is already sitting at the edges of my wrist. If the top side of my wrist was as flat as the underside, I could get away with more watches.
Good to have talking watches back. Great episode and really cool collection. Cool to see how humble and down to earth he was too.
Thanks!
Hodinkee is back in form with this one. A true watch lover and very well edited. Great work!
Thanks Peter!
His little chuckle talking about the Lange movement.. that’s how it makes you feel, it’s just so insane you can’t help but laugh
Pretty much. With everything dial side you still get to flip it over and have THAT Lange movement. It's almost unfair
All smiles here. Great video. Great watch collection. Great guy. Thanks Mitch and Hodinkee.
Thanks Scott!
Very nice that they were able to do a Talking Watches episode during the COVID era.
like that he's not just a rolex, ap, patek fanboy JLC JLC
Thanks!
@@mitchschwartz71 wow that’s really you!
Yep, so refreshing to not see an RM either.
@@mitchschwartz71 The Vikings need OL help DESPERATELY. You would look GREAT in Purple 😁👍
You KNOW you'd rather protect Kirk Cousins than Mahomes... I mean Cmon bro 🤦♂️ (😂) For the record, Cousins actually IS a damn good QB when he has more than a split second in a clean pocket... He's definitely no Mahomes when it comes to pocket presence/ability to scramble/run etc... But red isn't your color brotha. Purple though... Just think of the beautiful matte purple helmets!
Signed,

@@mitchschwartz71 Amazing episode, by the way... Best I've seen in a while!
As much as I do love many models from Rolex/AP/Patek, it definitely IS refreshing to see some actual diversity outside of that trio... So props to you sir 👌
Hey Mitch, thanks for the genuine interview and your amazing collection. It’s cool to get to know you a little more from this. I pray that you get back into playing health soon.
Thanks so much Tod!
He's calling the Explorer 2 "light and thin"
Last time I wore that watch... It felt like a serious chonker 😂
Nice edit, felt like they were in the same room together despite being a plane ride apart. HODINKEE inspiring as always.
This was an awesome episode! Seems like a super down to earth guy and that collection was bananas. Super well rounded and perfectly fits his personality and lifestyle with giant 9 inch wrists.
Appreciate that, thanks!
Few will comprehend just how eloquently well-rounded his collection really is. Such a fantastic episode. So gratifying in videography as well. Sports fan or not, that ring is just plain decadent.
Thank you!
Mitch, and his collection, will be missed here in KC. Great clip.
Thanks Kevin!
Wicked video guys, really great that this series is back and the set up really works. Super nice watch collection, that Vacheron is something special.
It sure is, thanks Tom!
Awesome video...great collection and Mitch knocked it out of the park!
wasn’t what I expected a cook and a football player who doesn’t typically like dive watches. but he’s got some nice time pieces. Really enjoyed seeing an episode of talking watches. thanks guys keep up the good work.
Thank you for bringing back the talking watches
Thank goodness this series is back. Please cut the other stuff and get back to this. Great work.
What an awesome collection. Nice to see a variety in his collection and not just all subs
Welcome back Talking Watches, and this was a really great one!!!
Thanks Rob!
Great Episode! Enjoyed every Minute. Awesome Collection !
Appreciate it!
so glad to have this back in my life. THANK YOU AND GREAT INTERVIEW!
Thanks Kenny, had fun sharing!
I’ve missed this! Brilliant. More please...
Awesome collection. What a cool guy too. Such a humble collector and subtle guy.
I really enjoyed this talking watches. Great guest and an amazing collection.
Thanks! I quite enjoy eating you too.
I’m so impressed with the level of pieces in his collection! My first mechanical watch was a Hamilton that I got for college graduation from my parents too :)
Such a great episode. Mitchell your collection is amazing, you have excellent taste in watches!
you know we missed these! Wow new meaning to heavy hitters!
Love to see you guys still doing talking watches. Nice collection, giant wrist!
Thanks Taylor! Had fun chatting with Danny
One of the best celebrity watch collections I've ever seen! Especially the Extreme Lab and Zeitwerk.
HODINKEE made us wait and I’m glad. Y’all crushed the quality of this video. High Quality over quantity: Hodinkee 2021.
Very enjoyable video, thanks, shattered my preconceptions about watching this gentleman (being European, I've never heard of Mitch), but respect his attitude, his watches, and decent looking pizzas. Talk about humble, Jazzmaster is his most dressy watch - Jazzmaster Day/Date is my dream watch
A gentle, thoughtful man with discerning taste in watches. He also underscores that larger watches are not just a style choice, but a necessary physical choice for the body habitus of some. I love the Lange and the VC in rose gold. And, he is a heckuava lineman
Thank you so much!
Finally another ep..thank you H. Gr8 TW with a diverse collection...absolutely love the VC...oh to be in that club. Thx again H. club
Thank you! The VC is a stunner
@@mitchschwartz71 time to check out yr cooking channel now LOL!
Such a wonderfully diverse collection. really enjoyed this one.
Appreciate it Joe!
Considering the circumstances, the quality of this video is amazing!
Great Episode, thank you for the content!
I would LOVE to see Aurel Bacs on your show!!
That Lange & Sohne is amazing!! My favorite in your collection for sure.
Same here, thanks Steven!
Wow. Impressive spread. Guys knowledgeable and has quite the diverse collection. 👍
Thanks Ryan!
Such a multi talented yet humble guy. Love the JLC
So many great choices ! What a great collection and guy.
Wow, what a great collection. This guy knows his stuff and has good taste. Love that Vacheron.
It's a great one, thanks!
Great varied collection! Really great way to spend lunchtime. Really enjoyed this one! 🙏
Thanks!
@@mitchschwartz71 absolutely man!
One of my favorite collections. Definitely one to be proud of! Thank you for sharing! 🙏
I'm not into football, but a NFL player with a Zeitwerk, which is my holy grail... I'm deeply impressed!
Thanks Marc!
Love the wide assortment of his collection. Nicely done!
Thank you John!
Really impressive watch collection, but maybe an even more impressive personality. I have no clue about football with the egg ball and never heard of him before. He seems really down to earth and especially, really enjoying watches in a way that is really nice to see. He buys watches that please him and shows a really good taste in the watches he owns.
Haha the "egg ball" I've never heard that. Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed the vid and my collection!
Love the close up of the watches
Wow wow WOW! What a collection. Lots of thought and originality.
Thank you James, loving my collection right now!
Great Talking Watches episode.
Great video! He seems like a really nice guy - and cool collection! Thanks Hodinkee !
Thanks!
I've missed these. MOREEE!
I love the new format of talking watching.
Loved in KC and will be missed. Mitch is simply the man.
Thank you!
Amazing athelete - this young man is just a complete masterclass on the football field - its just unreal to see, and obviously also in watch collecting as well - just such a well thought out collection. Great program.
Thanks so much!
Very cool guest and an impressive (and diverse) collection!
Appreciate that!
Very nice watch Collection, i Long time Not See 😃👍
This guy is awesome! Great collection that is diverse with a story! Everything purpose driven and what he likes not what is so called popular. Especially a big fan of the openworked JLC.
Thanks so much Nikhil!
Stellar watch collection, really enjoyed it….but that pizza looked phenomenal
Great vid and what a nice guy, love his collection variety👌
Thanks James
Very well rounded collection. He seems to be into the hobby for what he really enjoys and not just chasing which ever Rolex came out last year
Love this collection. Wear in good health!
Thanks!
Finally another Talking watches!!
Honestly, considering everything thats out there above 47mm, this man has IMPECCABLE taste. He makes a Submariner look like a 36mm Explorer, yet he still manages to find elegant and understated timepieces.
I also love how functional his collection gets when it comes to timing anything from the inside kitchen to sprinters at the combine!
You don’t have an idea of how much I was missing than kid d of videos, please! Do more often 🙏🏻
What a good spread of watches! Fantastic!
Thanks!
Nice collection! Love the Striking time! Well done mate!
Thank you!
Loved Mitchell when he was with the Browns.
He will be back
Got that same Jazzmaster as my first higher watch too last year, love it to bits
It's such a good one
All watches look 33mm on him :P Great video!
That’s what’s happens when you have a 9in wrist
Cool collection and seems like a nice guy with interesting hobbies such as cooks. Watches are something that no matter your taste you can find something you like and share your passion with others
Agreed Chuck, thanks!
Nice, love that TW is back! Great interview
Thanks!
BRING BACK TALKING WATCHES
This collection is Great in all means...
Finally talking watches! And a very good one as well! Nice guy and well thought collection. You should invite Charles Barkley as he claimed to be a watch collector multiple times in Inside the NBA
Now, that's a real collector. Not just checking off watches on a list but actually buying the ones he likes and will wear instead. Love the VC and Zeitwerk. I don't care what anyone says, I'll take a Lange over a Patek any day and especially the one he's got. Definitely one of my grail watches. Thanks for showing us your collection and good luck in all your endeavors, from a fellow So Cal boy.
Thanks so much TJ! Too many good watches out there to get what others enjoy, find what you love and go from there!
Great episode, he has a nice mix of watches and lots of knowledge
Thank you Preeyen
Man alive that is some collection, hats off so nice to some variety outside of Rolex and Patek,. Love the JLC extreme lab, And striking time Lange, cracking episode.
Thank you!
Great diversity and great taste!
The Zeitwerk is my grail watch! 🙌🏻
Thanks Karson! It's wonderful
This! is my favorite watch collection!
Nice of you to say Vic, thanks!
Like the FP Journe, and the A Lange & Sohne; but what really got my mouth watering was that Pizza, dang man!
Same haha, thanks!
Never liked that ALS until I saw it on an 8.5 inch wrist. Time to start taking HGH (and time to start planning a bank heist).
Both feasible for sure. It's an amazing watch, in either metal. I actually never saw the Striking in wg before buying. I saw the regular in wg, and the Striking in the colored gold. That is a top 3 most beautiful watch I've ever seen alongside my VC but I knew I wouldn't wear it as much as white metal and black dial.
@@mitchschwartz71 thanks for the reply. I gotta check out your cooking videos. I used to write/produce for the Food Network.
Great and varied collection!
Come on, John Mayer 3!!!!
Shows huge complications, jlcs, vintage speedmaster etc

Show me your explorer 2
stupid comment by the interviewer but ill admit the explorer 2 with a white dial is my grail. guilty as charged 😩
A great collection. Nice to know a guy with a collection that swims against the current.
Thank you! Love me some donuts but not so sure when they're angry...
@@mitchschwartz71 Man you got so much time replying to all the comments. Congratulations on the feature. Stay in good health. Love from the Philippines.BTW will try your recipes on your channel.
I’m very impressed with his collection.
