    Another promotional film was recorded for the song, this time filmed on 29 April near St Michael's Church in Highgate. It is the only known footage of Barrett lip-synching to the song. It was shot in the spring of 1967, around the time that his mental deterioration began.

      I think it's great to listen to his plane, to hear how Nick Mason went from his style of play into the more action-packed, cymbal crashing style, while still playing his style. Impossible to miss. His style was unique, non-jazz, self taught if i had to guess.

    When Syd died, he left a bank account of nearly two million English pounds, mostly from royalties over the years from record releases by Pink Floyd. Ones where he had a part in certain recordings. He didn't spend much, and lived modestly. Gilmour always made sure Syd got his royalties.

    I bought my first Pink Floyd album in 68 "Relics" just out of curiosity. I was 16. The album cover and song titles told me to risk 5 bucks, and man was I blown away. This was before anything like this even closely existed. The next album I bought was Meddle, and that was it. I was hooked. I had a pretty kick ass stereo back then, and my friends would come over, we would turn off the lights, and get stoned, and trip out all night listening to Floyd. Man, I miss those days, we had so much fun.

    I find it hilarious watching Syd Barrett and Roger Waters messing around in s mock wrestling match while Rick Wright's wanders around! I love Syd's Lead Vocal in that he sounds very British and not trying to sound like an American! That was very innovative! I also love Rick Wright's Farfisa Organ solo. It's so Psychedelic and futuristic sounding. This track sounds like it was released yesterday. It sounds so contemporary! The Pink Floyd was way ahead of its time. This song was banned by the BBC due to its lyrical content. I empathize with Syd Barrett in that music journalists criticized Barrett, at the time, for writing in their opinion, such a "smutty" song. I think it's a fine lyric and great song!!!

    Having played seventeen gigs that month, they filmed a second promo for ‘Arnold Layne’ around St Michael’s Parish Church in Highgate on 29 April. Inspired, Syd belted out his words, glowering with theatrical intensity as he points an accusing finger at the camera. With remarkable passion, Syd points not at Arnold Layne, but at us. The footage captures Syd and Roger wrestling in woods, well matched, though Roger gets the advantage at one point, only to be surprised by Barrett, echoing the musical duel of Pan and Apollo.

      @@ralex3697there are rock stars still living from this period who were human Guinea Pigs from the age of 15. The issue is that Syd was not someone who should have been using these drugs with these people. The original problem is that when Dr. Hoffman synthesized lysergic acid for the first time it was so unique in science that it was misunderstood. Nobody knew what to do with this stuff. At some point in the 20 years between the famous bicycle ride and Syd Barrett taking his first trips the genie was let out of the bottle. Something that should have been kept in a psychiatrist lab to help people free themselves from their hangups was getting into the brains of main stream and underground people all over Europe and the world. I love the pink floyd of syd barrett!! An unrepeatable experience in history!! Few bands like this have been... I recently found a band that you should know: "La rueda o el barco" It's like a pink floyd but of now. Opinion!!

      I totally agree with you, Inventor. There are very few songs that resonant with or move me after Syd left -- or, really, quite anything a few years later (after '73 or so). Will check out your band recommendation.

      Great tip, Inventor! Totally cool band and does sound at first like a tribute to the Barrett Pink Floyd. Amazing. They have their own interesting psychedelic sound. Love it. Can you tell us more about La rueda o el barco? Argentine? Their soulfulness reminds me a bit of Aterciopelados.....

    I dig all of Floyd upto and including The Wall, but I have a particular soft spot for the Syd era. He has such a sure sense of songcraft. Amazing riffs and effects. A wonderful, unique voice. Insanely good looks. I also love how well he harmonized with Wright; I thought their early work had the best vocal harmonies.

      Oh, yes! Every one of them! I'm into Syd and Rog, myself. The pretty little foofy-haired faun and his big grumpy centaur friend.
      I think of Syd as alive and well and restored to his cute, bouncy, pre-breakdown self in the hereafter.
      If they were critters....
      * Syd the bunny.
      * Roger the horsey.
      * Rick the kitty.
      * Nick the beaver.
      Then the bunny became a march hare and was replaced by the lion, David.
      I like to imagine an alternate universe where Syd never had a mental breakdown, was able to cope with rock stardom yet Floyd was all five guys. Imagine that scenario.

    I love the way they were so ahead of their time and together they made it happen and believed in this. I wish things were different and Syd never diminished. But then on the flip side, Gilmour wouldn't have happened. So not sure how to look at this. Maybe they all came together and are still playing in some other universe.
