The Plaintiffs' lawyer in that case (as well as in a case against Elon Musk) is literally my favorite lawyer for this. Legal Eagle's high on the list though
In fairness his lawyers needed a better client, Jones undermining his legal team isn't new. Not to dismiss their own lack of competence demonstrated in this case, just noting they were starting from a bad position regardless.

@@Vynoslivost Someone getting drunk 24/7 for 10 years being appointed as editor-in-chief of InfoWars would make it a more credible news source than what it was under Jones.

@Vynoslivost if you want to understand the levels of madness surrounding InfoWars; the podcast Knowledge Fight has 1000+ episodes on Jones and related topics (including some coverage of depositions; interviews with the legal teams and with some of the plaintiffs). If you are primarily interested in legal aspects, search within their feed for episodes with "Formulaic Objections" in the title. Episode numbers 712 and 736 are two post trial episodes. Most of the 1000 episodes are about InfoWars episodes- unpicking Jones' on air claims. The main host (Dan) is such an expert on Jones and InfoWars that he was an expert consultant for the families in the Texas case.
Thing is the onion doesn't have a lot of people who actually take them seriously and they don't encourage their subscribers to harass other people. @@Heathcoatman

The best power move in modern journalism was the Liberal Media (And Legal Eagle) pretending there was actual evidence for Russian Collusion. Womp womp. It may have been a failure in the end but they did good using power to keep the truth under wraps while using the lies to smear Trump. This onion thing is a joke. It's being challenged in court, a lawyer telling people "It was bought" while that purchase is being disputed in court is pretty outrageous.
So basically: The onion stopped Jones’s allies from getting it all back, helped solve the issue of payouts between the two groups of parents, and pulled one of the greatest karmic justice acquisition in history. With one move. What legends
@@Spiney09 but what problem? In both scenarios "2% family" got same amount of money because other family choosed dignity over money. There was no dispute to settle between families.
@@Spiney09 why are you changing topics? You said that the onion settled dispute between parents and I asked what dispute there was because I don't know about any. The dispute was between families AND alex jones.
Just to be clear, there IS no dispute between the two parents. I think you must've misunderstood what was being said. The Texas lawsuit parents weren't in some sort of disagreement with the Connecticut lawsuit parents. The Connecticut lawsuit parents just went out of their way to increase the share the Texas parents would get out of their own volition, not out of some sort of dispute between them.
@@drayke8886 It was to do with what they were going to do with Infowars as a whole. The Texas plaintiffs wanted to let Infowars truck on, if under the control of the victims, while vacuuming up pretty much every profit made as that was the only way the Texas plaintiffs were ever going to see enough money to pay their legal fees, much less enough money to make things right. Thus they initially opposed there being an auction at this stage. The Connecticut plaintiffs, on the other hand, wanted to sell things off so that they could get money now while also making sure that Jones could no longer continue using Infowars to spread hate and harm. They were the ones pushing to sell things off, and because of this there was conflict between the Texas and Connecticut plaintiffs. EDIT: The Judge ruled in favour of the Connecticut plaintiffs on this matter, hence the auction. The Onion stepping in like they did allows for both groups of plaintiffs to be happy.

Still funny that The Onion did this, but it hasn't been the first time someone has been dared to do the funniest thing possible and actually follow through with it.
I love how the Chaos Lawyer always describes people in the most concise and accurate ways. "Conspiracy Shitposter" Alex Jones. "Goblin Troll" Roger Stone. Amazing.
She could even be more concise by not naming them. I think by now we know who conspiracy shitposter and goblin troll are, and those are the names they've earned and deserve.
Makes sense, the Connecticut families are far more concerned with ensuring that Jones pays the price than that they're the ones that receive it all. The high verdict was never about the families needing billions of dollars, it was about punishing Jones and discouraging him from subjecting future families to what they experienced.
Absolutely. Those families suffered so much. They not only suffered a parent's worst nightmare, they were put through another nightmare by Alex Jones. I'm sure those families could definitely use the money to get their lives back to a semblance of normal, but they would rather see that hell spawn of a man go broke and lose all of his power.
They want him to actually feel consequences for what he put them through, and for him not to be able to do the same thing to anyone else. The Onion buying his business would be *both*, and that makes it perfect poetic justice.
@@DavidHRyall So let me get this straight, you're wishing ill on someone for commenting about a person being punished for a pattern of knowingly antisocial behavior? Is it normal in your world view to advocate that people who engage in malicious behavior be punished, too, or only the otherwise innocent people who draw attention to it?
"The Onion and Sandy Hook parents are conspiring to hurt me!" Alex Jones describing how businesspeople meet and negotiate a perfectly normal aspect of a bankruptcy proceeding
That's what they do. They take normal mundane stuff and create controversy. This exhausts people so they disengage or go to the "easy" news sources(tik tok, fox, etc) The popular content creator Hank Green recently took a tweet by a conservative that said something like "US government spent $5 million testing coyote pee on drunk rats." Yeah that sounds bad, until you look into it and discover its research at the VA to help understand trauma responses in PTSD veterans. Then it doesn't sound so bad, but conservatives never go into detail and purposefully misrepresent things.
Conspiring to hurt people is the only form of business that he knows. Same way Trump only knows lies, fraud and deception, and therefore accuses everybody else of being the same way.
Yeah, but as Jones is a professional conspiracy nut, he'll see conspiracies everywhere because he WANTS to see conspiracies everywhere. You're talking about a guy who can and often would go off on a rant about "how THEY are controlling the weather" on something as simple as him stepping out on a rainy day. Note that just like many other conspiracy nuts, he'll almost always be very vague about who THEY are: it's all about the conspiracy, not about the who, what or why.
I think the most interesting thing about this auction to me is how it really portrays the humanity in the sandy hook plaintiffs, and how sometimes, money isnt what really matters in a case. Mad respect for going out of their way to get everyone involved a slice, and the comfort of impeding the person who hurt them.
Don't leave out The Onion. They are giving up a cut of the ad revenues to the families that had the larger claim to eventually make them whole. You just don't see that kind of class from a corporation anymore.

@@johndoe6032 I mean, I wouldn't be terribly surprised if The Onion didn't have the capital to outbid FUAC up-front, and giving up a cut of the ad revenue was the only way to make their offer better for everyone. But of course, being a business literally built around satire, making some less than ideal business decisions for the sake of ultimate lols is also very much on the table.
I find it so admirable that the CT parents were so generous to the texas plaintiffs. They all suffered from the strategy, and its so admirable that they stuck together.
That's because the goal of the CT parents wasn't to make bank off of the liquidation of Jones' assets; the goal was to prevent Jones from causing harm again. This was one of the few ways to make sure that wouldn't happen, or at least would throw roadblocks in his way.
Also they will share in Onion profits from the sale & use of the IP up to an agreed amount. Which is definitely going to be more than the FUAC settlement would give them.
In addition to the fact that the 15 CT plaintiffs still get residuals, keep in mind that they're also getting 96.7% of the money recovered from the sale of Jones's other assets (6.45% each), with the two TX plaintiffs taking 3.3% (1.65% each). This should help equalize things.

It’s worth reminding Jones defenders that he knowingly and without resistance sold his customers data to deal with his bankruptcy. The Onions bid stipulated that the Texas creditors would get a larger share of the money than the Connecticut creditors, which the Connecticut creditors agreed to. The value of the sale would not dent the Connecticut creditors owed 1.4 billion dollars, but would for the Texas creditors 50 million. Even though the onions bid is smaller than the other bid, it still gives more money to the Texas creditors than the other bid, which the trustee see's as a better deal.
@@FujinBlaze Exactly. Good video and I would also like to commend you on not "cleaning up" Jones' rhetoric like a lot of media outlets are starting to do for these wackos. People need to hear the insane things these people say verbatim to fully understand how ugly it is.
REAL Jones didn't just make "controversial statements about firearms and gun violence" as some news stations said. He said genuinely harmful, awful, and disgusting things. He directly harassed and bullied the survivors of gun violence for a decade, to the point of suicide.
Which is why podcasts like Knowledge Fight are so important. They've been documenting his nonsense since 2017 and one of the hosts was even brought in as an expert by the Texas plaintiffs.

The reminder that elon musk could easily reverse this purchase with some pocket change really shows how scary and dangerous it is to have billionaires in power
Thats because nothing Alex Jones ever says is real or true. This was above board and the only reason its being dragged put is because Alex Jones is doing what he does best.

I know the Onion likely cut the deal with the CT families because it was a smart business decision, but I also appreciate that it provides the best monetary compensation for BOTH sets of plaintiffs. It's an outcome that strips Alex Jones of his platform AND ensures both sets of plaintiffs get their compensation, so hats off to The Onion for a game well-played!
I can't wait until the bankruptcy proceedings reaches AJs personal belongings. Just the inventory list itself is going to be amusing to peruse through.

Trump is nothing more than a useful idiot with delusions of grandeur and fame. The only reason he got as far as he did is because of all the people using him to make even more money. @Vynoslivost if you want to understand the levels of madness surrounding InfoWars; the podcast Knowledge Fight has 1000+ episodes on Jones and related topics (including some coverage of depositions; interviews with the legal teams and with some of the plaintiffs).

As quoted. It is "beautiful".
And this was after the Texas Plaintiffs tried to screw them over. I'm sure everyone involved just wants this over already
I believe they all thought that making a certain someone very angry was worth way more than any money they could get
I'm shocked, FoxNews released only edited parts of a story in order to put the spin on it they wanted! Like other everyday
“No one should feel comfortable with the results of this auction,” Judge Christopher Lopez of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas said at an emergency status conference, according to an audio recording of the hearing shared by the court in the docket Friday. I'm stealing this. Thanks!
It's not much but god, I will take ANY wins for justice right now
The fact that people like Jones can prosper in our society is so disturbing. Where the hell are we even going?
Normally, revenge is a dish best served cold, however this is clearly an example that it's best served with fresh onion as well
Onions can be chilled.
The best will be when The Onion takes over the InfoWars site and changes literally nothing.
I know right, it basically is already satirical
Fake news buys fake news.
When I found out this happened I couldn’t help but laugh.
REAL Fake News purchases Pretending Fake Fake (real, not) News
One we trust, one we do not.
The real fake news buys the fake real news
Lets be real here the only fake news is Infowars in this case, The Onion admits to being parody.
The Onions are prophets what do you mean
OG fake news shows Alex Jones how it's done.
incredible that the Connecticut families were so committed to solidarity with the Texas families.
All this has been about justice, and they only got this far as families by sticking together. It is wonderful to see it come to head like this.
It sucks but trauma tends to bring out the best parts of humanity. Many of the nicest people I know have had the worst effing lives but you'd never guess based on how kind and caring they are.
Amost like they work for the same people. Almost
It’s good to hear directly from someone with great inside knowledge
I think where jones went wrong in his legal battle was that he didn’t run for president and then shout “election interference” every time he went to court.
I’ve lost a lot of faith in our legal system watching how they dealt with Trump. But this is a huge win.
Trump is nothing more than a useful idiot with delusions of grandeur and fame. The only reason he got as far as he did is because of all the people using him to make even more money. AJ had no such friends, since he's only a little useful to the ones pulling the strings. Podcasters like AJ are a dime a dozen and it'd be cheaper to embolden others than back a sinking ship.
The Onion is 2 for 2. Greatest brief ever filed, and funniest acquisition ever.
This auction is a masterclass in creative negotiation tactics to build a bigger pie beyond the bounds of the auction itself - incredible!
Yep. The obligation of the Trustee is to secure the greatest revenue for all creditors. The Onion had better lawyers and their structuring the bid and creditor settlement in the manner they use pretty much insured that the Trustee would find Onion's bid superior for creditors.
Excellent episode, as always! One small annotation, though: "Tetraeder" isn't pronounced "tee trader", but rather "tetra aider" 😉
Oh, that makes that whole paragraph of the script make sense now
the funniest part, is Jones trying to steal it back is it's likely actually helping The Onion, as this was likely a Business decision to get into the news (among other reasons) so jones dragging his feet about it, and throwing a fit, putting in the news longer, he is playing into the Onions hands!
I like to think that there's enough humanity at the head of The Onion for it to also be motivated by wanting to do something hilarious, but yeah, the publicity certainly doesn't hurt.
@@reaganharder1480 The Onion saw an opening and took it. It's a bonus that they are working so hard to help all the families. Really goes to show what the mainstream media could do if it weren't owned by Billionaires only caring about their bank accounts.
IIRC, "Onion" staffers got the suggestion to buy Infowars from folks on BlueSky. The rationale being that the entire idea was hilarious!!
Infowars would be turned into a site that parodies Hucksters and conspiracies.
We are on a dark timeline, but at least it will be funny.
Apparently what the Onion said about this was.
"Also soms people on Blue-sky said that we have the opportunity to do something very funny. They were right. This is the funniest thing that has ever happened."
So a hyper biased incestuous democratic digital pipeline system. Not sure thats a brag
I don’t think you can parody them.
Absolutely any shit can be posted and people will run with it.
@@TesterAnimal1The Onion: Challenge accepted.
@@TesterAnimal1 I am curious how they'll go about subverting conspiracy theories, when those are already basically jokes.
But then again, they worked out a way to make fun of Trump without it becoming unreadable comedy poison, so maybe their writers are clever enough to pull it off.
Well Infowars has finally ended up where it belongs, where everyone knows what’s on it is false.
The words exist, surely?
well...how many times did people get "duped" by believing, or even re posting their news.
Yeah, but their lies had more truth to them than a lot of "legitimate" sources so-called "Truths."
And everyone who believes what it says will be malding to hell and back

I love Liz's videos. Her willingness to just call a turd a turd (like Alex Jones) is a refreshing clearing of otherwise staid commentary from most larger media sources.
It’s very entertaining in a lawyer, too. You usually don’t see normal lawyers being so blunt about obviously true things. They like to hedge. You have to respect someone who is willing to speak plainly about one of the most despicable people in the US, especially in these trying times.
I was going to say the same thing; "platform for monetising hate speech"--calling a spade a spade. FOR ONCE. No more pussyfooting around!
RUclips's responsible for a lot of garbage things but "lawyer speaks hilarious truth" does earn them some positive karma points
The only uncertainty I have is how The Onion can possibly make Infowars stupider than it already was…
Yeah. The CEO of The Onion vowed that with this purchase they would turn Infowars in the stupidest website on the internet. Not sure it was possible to make it any more stupid.
Photoshop a clown wig onto all the Alex Jones footage? That's about the only way I can think of to make Jones a bigger laughing stock.
I want the Onion and Comedy Central to do a faux InfoWars sitcom one night a week. Imagine showing how the sausage is made. You could have the "Wheel of Fear" which they spin and ocme up with a premise for that episode. Say "trans in bathrooms". he writing team goes off and workshops invectives and talking points. A faux Alex Jones type goes on "live" and reads the teleprompter breaking occasionally to sell supplements with insane claims. A rotating cast of "Subject Matter Experts" is coached to appear to be so just before the broadcast. It writes itself really. Pattern it after the British show "Hot Metal" which lampooned Murdoch.
Ah, Hot Metal. Catchy theme song. Some great jokes.
Still haven't had a chance to watch "Whoops, Apocalypse."
So like The Office but a look behind the scenes of infowars?
Solid show premise. Kind of like a more deranged, humorous version of Sports Night.
I like the idea, but it wouldn't work. Reason being that the clips would be taken out of context and used by the same people they are parodying. Happens time and time again.
@@beetlemilkpublishing2665If we lived in a world where fear of Poe’s Law kept us from doing satire, we wouldn’t have any satire at all, such as the Colbert Report, or even the Onion itself. I love this so much. The plaintiffs worked together, and took a paycut to mess-over AJ so good. Not only did he lose his business, he lost it for LESS than what his friends would bail him out for, and he STILL needs to pay them 1.3825 billion. Fortnite-dance on that guy.

1 of 2 things are happening. 1 Alex jones lawyers cant read, 2 they can read and are milking jones for everything he has left.

Look at tRump or Sarah Boone. Some lawyers will just file whatever their clients want, no matter if it helps their case or not, because they are being paid. Alex has nothing left. He owed over a billion dollars.
