I was one of the 15 new hires for America West which was due to start service at DCA on 1 July 1989 (to operate the former Eastern Shuttle we had bid on against Trump. The Shuttle sale fell through but because we had been allocated slots we weren’t about to give them up. So July 1 we started service at DCA with flights to Phoenix (stopping in either Kansas City, Omaha, or Wichita along the way).
Excellent video, classic case of somebody not understanding the business they are going into on every level and unfortunately in this case a personality and business style that meant there were no checks and balances to overcome this fundamental lack of understanding. With most examples it is just a Pub or Restaurant (although I know of someone who bought a circus tent) but with Trump everything is on a bigger scale.
@@aoxby8037 Thats what he is. A flimsy dartboard flailing in the wind with splintered darts. The only saving grace he has is his brashness. Thats how he managed to bullshit his way into presidency.
Basically, Trump decided to jump himself into something that he lacked knowledge and experience in. A classic mistake that many celebrities make. Their egos get in their way. I do like some of his ideas for the aircrafts and the spirit of ' providing the best ' but that is not suitable for an air shuttle service. It could have been good as a flagship international carrier.
Trump doesnt even habe any well earned credentials as a celebrity. At least if youre a good musician or ballsport player, youve rightfully earned your credentials as a celebrity. Other than that, youre right. Just be thankful hes not in charge of Boeing.
Not speaking for Darkness of course but I have a strong feeling the only reason why this video was made was because it involved a form of transportation which is Darkness's main forte on this channel. Frankly, I just dont see him doing anymore videos about Trump's numerous failed business ventures as it would deviate from his transportation focus. It would just turn the channel into Trump Fail channel and there way to many of those on YT.
As a past airline employee, I feel you missed a lot of important factors, I actually worked for US Air, then USAirways and eventually AA. So, I think the product wasn’t described accurately, both what Eastern provided and what Trump and eventually US Air provided. The market was centered on business markets BOS , NYC and WAS which competes with rail , not so much then but more so now after Acela. The Shuttle was more like a business class bus , every half hour, more flexible ticket rules, etc.
Also- the route and slots at slot restricted airports LGA and DCA was probably most of the purchase price, the facilities (gates) were very limited. You could not just start a new airline to fly between the business markets of NYC/WAS/BOS. Nowadays you might have an easier time. Frank Lorenzo was also very polarizing in the industry, I know you mentioned him but there is more to the story there I’m sure.
4:516:3813:10 I have a beautiful Daron Skymarks model of an eastern airlines 727-200 *And I highly recommend Daron or Gemini jets if you love planes and jets, their models are amazing*
If Trump had simply bought new airplanes, say MD-80's or Airbus A320's he could have continued on in the luxury airline business. He spent $4million, I think, on 20 year old 727's that were going for about a million a pop on the used market in those days. I had heard that the interiors of his 727's were something else, this video was the first I had seen of the interiors. They were pretty spectacular. I'm not going to throw rocks at Trump for his airline. It was a one of a kind. And is deserving of notice.
Yeah they were nice but it is a stupid idea. I could appreciate some frills on a cross country or trans Atlantic flight not on a 30 min puddle jumper route.
Here's the thing, in life you have to learn to fail in order to succeed. I feel like this is just one of those cases of fools rushing in but having no idea of what it fully entailed. It's just like Jon Taffer or Gordon Ramsey, all 3 have had places fail but they created success out of those failures.
Then claim it all as business expenses and get your money back from the government. He's a fraud and a crook and isn't worth 100 million let alone a BILLION
"My father gave me a small loan of 1 million dollars." Donald John Trump letter to letter, 2015. That "small" loan was actually a tiny little 60.7 million dollars. A loan he never paid back. But hey, what is a few dozen million dollars among friends 😂
And now, six bankruptcies, two bankrupted casinos and a crashed airline later he has managed to turn that tiny little 60.7 million dollar loan into a multi billion dollar debt. Very impressive 😂
@agolftwittler1223 let me humble you a bit here, scooter. Trump has made his fortune making smart business decisions, knowing the right people, and doing the best he can with any money he has, which is more than you will ever make in your lifetime. Yes, he did borrow money to make it happen, but everyone starts somewhere. Steve Harvey for example, came from absolutely nothing. He was loaned $25,000 to start his career and he is now one of the most talented, smart, wise, and generous people in the 1% category. Again, you wanna hate on a single person for doing something that most would never get the opportunity to do. I bet if you had that kind of endorsement money, you'd fumble it and be left with nothing but the clothes on your back and millions more in debt, especially with no business sense and no practical use for it but for your own gain. So good luck in your sad life, it'll get you far with your self-absorbed, hateful, and despicable attitude. ✌️

It's not that Airlines Can't be on time, it's more they don't want to run the airlines to run on time anymore. It's partly why the Airlines system is actually still the system that Trump was using all the way back in 1989. Everyone just has a nerd whose good at making that DOS/terminal interface look like a GUI interface.
Your tone definitely gives away your political views. But your content is interesting and differing political opinions are what make the USA interesting! Although right now I think Trump really is the lesser evil just my two cents!
"His name on the company" there is the only asset he has. Publicity and a cult of personality. No real liquidity or innovative business practices. And hiward hughes was actually a smart man, not a con man.

10:45 The "x" in "faux" is silent. It's pronounced like "foe".
Thanks for pre -facing that with the time.
..... Yes, unless immediately followed by a consonant.
Yeah, but that's in French, all the consonants at the end are silent; that's because a king could not pronounce them.
Just like DesMoines, Detroit.
Actually, American Airlines ceased the shuttle service in 2021 because of the covid-19 pandemic
Fun facts Donald Trump in the 90s wanted to build a NASCAR Race track.
The more I hear about Trump. The more I'm convinced, he just has a dart board with some ideas on it.

Same here.
Honestly the video didn't come close to politics. IMO it was objective and respectful of all parties involved.

Can you do another video on Trump when he tried to sell steaks in sharper image. That would be funny to hear.
