    i must not have stressed this enough, but just wanted to let you guys know MOST people on the DCP work 40-50 hours a week!! 50+ during christmas time or if their job is understaffed :)
    i never worked a full time job before so 0 hours a week to 35, plus my added youtube “job,” feels like a lot at first! but that is not even close to the reality of most other people on the DCP who worked way more, which is where my stress of “working a lot” comes from. 🥰

    This video is SO accurate!! Honestly you completely nailed it. Thank you for creating this! I love making the cute, happy videos but I think it’s equally as important to show the realities of the program. I got really depressed some days because I was homesick and felt bad for not 100% loving the program at all times. I also was bummed I didn’t get close to my roommates - one of them I REALLY didn’t care for. I think this video will help a lot of people who are interested in the DCP!

    My roommate who was ODV at Epcot regularly had more than 60 hours a week, whereas my other roommate in attractions never had over 32/34 hours...I think the most difficult part about explaining the program is how inconsistent it can be at times!

    I did the DCP ten years ago (wow I'm old) and I was a lifeguard at Blizzard Beach so my hours were only ever 9-5ish when the park was open which was nice because all my roommates had crazy hours. You are definitely at the mercy of Disney when you go for sure. I got sent to resorts to work (which I hated). To be honest it got to the point where I would calculate how many days I needed to work to make rent and then would sit on the computers in the morning waiting to request an ER (early release) on as many days as possible lol. That's awful, but it's what I did. The classes were definitely a big part of my experience, I took Creativity & Innovation and Marketing You and they were some of the best classes I've ever taken. I highly recommend taking as many classes as possible.

    Oook just so people know, be prepared to work more than "35 to 59" hours a week. During festivals at epcot like food and wine we (the CPs at my location) we're getting scheduled between 65 to 75 hours a week for pretty much the entire time of food and wine. Not to scare you but it really depends on your location for how many hours you get because some can be...alot to say the least.

  • @ANNABELLEPOP

    I think another expectation to note is that depending on your role and location, the full timers and part timers are going to very much dislike you and really all CP's. For full timers, it's mainly because they see many lazy CP's who expect to do minimal work and instead push on the work to others and then they see us all like that. A lot of part timers hate us because they quite literally get absolutely no houre anymore while we get guaranteed a large number of hours. So just be prepared to be disliked or if you really want to be liked, go through a lot to prove yourself! It'll help you grow thicker skin, trust me :)

    A word of warning to those that do end up self-terming: the chances of being able to be hired by Disney again are slim to none, because you are put on what they call the "No Rehire list". In my case, I appealed twice and was told to "take my passion for Disney elsewhere" because they would absolutely not hire me again. Because I self-termed. So make sure you keep that in mind if you do ultimately decide to self-term.

    Finding new friends in the most unexpected situations and places... That was definately my favourite part of my ICP. And even if it sounds cliché, the most difficult part of the CP is saying goodbye... 1 year and 5 months since I came back to my country, I still think about those magical 6 months every single day. Post Disney depression is so real and I struggled with it for some months. Btw, try the party buses... you might make lifelong friends in that crazyness!

I couldn't have worded it any better myself; thank you for addressing some of the harder parts of the program, because nothing (not even working at the Happiest Place on Earth) is perfect--but that doesn't mean it's not worth it in the end! (I also got excited when you mentioned the Emporium because that's where I worked & you're 100% correct: the job may not have been amazing, but the people made it SO worth it & I miss my coworkers SO much already!!)

This video is so relatable, I think you hit everything and explained each point to a tee 👌 the friends you make on the dcp is definitely the number one reason I feel I had a such a great dcp. I was also super tired during my program, but I think towards the end of it is when i started to think in the way “you can sleep when you get home from the dcp” and when I really started to regret not doing as much as I possibly could in the parks 😞

    WoW!!! My first time here to your channel. I had wanted to work for Disney all of my life. I finally got the chance right after my divorce. At 40, and THAT was 20 years ago!!! so much to say to you. First and foremost, you have NO reason to be afraid (at the beginning of the episode) to post this THIS WAS PERFECT. EVERYthing you said is true. Second:, You have a way of connecting with us. You are so honest, and care so much. You just want to give a dose of reality. Finally (to cut it short)...you should rename this episode: "A Primer to Millenials about the DCP". However, this should be required viewing for EVERY kid that graduates from High School. If you re-wrote your script just a bit, to make it to a broader audience, you'd be hired for Commencement Addresses at High Schools and Colleges across the nation. I'm definitely a subscriber and supporter of yours now. Call me if you need a referral for something! Hugs and love, I'm Ken.

She worked at a resort and got scheduled almost the same schedule every week, about 30 hours. I was in Fantasyland in MK and got scheduled different shifts every week, typically 40 hours (I would then trade shifts around to try to get a few more hours, 45-50 a week). Not sure why I thought 40 hours wasn't enough but I left the program with some extra money in my bank account so that's good 😂

    I was in the military for about five years. I lived overseas in Bahrain for 3 years. It was my first time being halfway around the world. I was definitely very homesick and I missed my family and friends. I worked a lot of long hours during 24/7 watches. I HATED MY JOB TOO. I lived with roommates and didn't get close to them because we had different work hours. One would leave and another would move in at anytime. I had to get up before the crack of dawn going to work. The military life was not easy and I had to be very adaptable. I feel if I could handle that much, surely I can handle the DCP for about seven months. I know it won't be perfect, but I'm still excited nonetheless. It took me more than 3 tries to finally get accepted for spring 2020 and I'm looking forward to moving into the Disneyland Resort next January.

    I would say that a lot of these things also apply to being a regular cast member at WDW or DLR. Some of my best friends are my coworkers. It is easy to have a second family at work. At the very least, even if you don't hang out with coworkers outside of work, you still get to know them well, know about their lives and have them to turn to when you have a funny or frustrating story to share. Nobody will understand guest interactions as well as other CMs. Spending time in the parks is difficult to do all the time, but when you do, it can be really special. Since CMs get into the parks for free, it's easier to just come and ride one ride or have a snack or even just walk around without the pressure of getting the best "bang for your buck" or getting money's worth for a full day ticket. It's true that shifts can be hard or frustrating, but remembering that it's easier to just smile and forget difficult interactions is the best way to not let a bad day get you down. And remember that tomorrow is a new day! ~ from a West Coast Parks Food & Beverage CM!

      Sorry I know this is really late but I figured I’d try to help since no one ever answered you. I haven’t done the program yet but I’ve been applying. It’s probably different at other schools or depending on your major but at my school the program fulfills two classes. This means you get 6 credits for doing the program. For business majors a lot of times you need to do an internship and most of the time this program fulfills that requirement. You can take online classes or classes at Disney university if you want to still be a full time student since full time is 12 credits (at least for financial aid). I do think if you choose not to do full time your financial aid will pause for the semester your in Disney. Again sorry if this is wrong or only applies to my school. I haven’t gotten in yet but I hope to so I’m just giving the information professors have given to me not from personal experience yet

      Erica Saida how was the process and how does it work with college credits and classes?

    • @ericasaida
      @ericasaida 4 года назад

      @@Jasmine-nr1iq hey ! this is gonna be a little long so bare with me
      ! basically do A LOT of research before applying. it's a competitive program, so most people won't get accepted on their first try ( i did but that's because i did everything in my power to make sure i was prepared for this process of application.). I submitted my application after i did the research on this program for about literally 2 weeks. when you apply, there is a section where you need to include your work experience. if you haven't worked before, you can put your volunteer experience or like a internship experience if you have that ! when you describe your past experiences, you want to make sure that you enter a lot of disney key words. some are customer service, guest satisfaction, cleanliness, magic, ensure guest safety, etc. ( if you wanna watch my youtube video, i go over briefly on how i applied and how i got accepted, progress, etc) once you submit your application, people usually wait a few days to hear back if they have made it through or not. if you make it thru, you get the WBI ( web based interview) which is like a personality test. once you finish, you will know if you get a phone interview or not ! if you do, you can schedule your PI then ! for me, i applied and got my WBI on the same day. I planned my phone interview on that following week and got accepted ! it was all within 10 days from the day i applied to the day i got accepted ! now i'm literally leaving in like 6 weeks:') all the details are in my video on my channel if you want more info!
      regarding credits, you will have to work with your school. i worked with mine and they are able to let me just do an internship class thru my college to maintain my full student satisfaction ( i have a scholarship that REQUIRES me to be full student during my undergrad)
      there are some classes you can take at disney, but those will be opened at a certain time before your arrival at the program ONCE YOU ARE ACCEPTED.
      over all, the process was VERY stressful because it's basically a waiting game! you can get accepted within a week, 10 days ( like me ) or literally not know until the last day of the acceptance period. let me know if you have more questions! hope this helped !

    I’m a freshman in college and I really wanna do the DCP, however, I’m worried that my medical problems would make it hard for me. I have flat feet and my bone structure in my feet is messed up so standing for a long time and waking a lot causes a significant amount of pain. I would love to do the DCP but I’m scared that my feet would be in unbearable pain when trying to work. What do you think? Could physical requirements of the job be too much to handle sometimes?

    • @toribyron
      @toribyron 5 лет назад +2

      Juliana Guzzello you would be given a role that fits your medical restrictions as long as you make it known to the interviewers. If it’s what you have always wanted to do, go for it! You can always self-term if you physically (or mentally) can’t handle the pressures of the job. Best of luck!

    My DCP was the best experience I've ever had and I miss it so much, but it also sucked in a lot of ways. My roommates would get so angry at me because I spent so much of my time with my coworkers. It was ridiculous. So coming home was honestly the worst and I just ended up breaking the rules and staying over at my bf's apartment (he was also a CP) lol. During training, my group of CPs just all became really close and a few of us would have the same off days so we would go to the parks and stuff together. My best best friend was one of them that I met my first day of training. It ended up sucking though because I started dating a CP at our location from the previous CP group who had extended and she got jealous and ended our friendship. She started spreading rumors about me at work and got the majority of the CPs there to turn against me and exclude me from group chats and activities and such. Even the PTers that were friends with the CPs ended up hating me because I was dating this guy. So honestly, anything can happen on your program. I still had a lot of fun and got close with a bunch of the FTers at my location.

    The hating your job thing is applicable to all jobs in general tho haha 😂 I had to work 50 hrs a week when I used to work at a warehouse job and there was ALOT of days when I didn’t wanna work at all but I wouldn’t necessarily say that I hated the actual job itself. It just got tiring sometimes :)
