What are those drinks that are on the table? They look like pastis which is a clear liquor but when mixed with water it turns into the milky-muddy-like colour like the drinks in your video.
It’s great how Jewish people value family and especially the elderly. You are very lucky to still have your grandpa. Cherish him and cherish every time you are with him. I wish I could still sit, eat and talk with my grandpa. The older generations have great stories and lessons of life to give you. Am Yisrael Chai!!

my grandfather was a holocaust survivor from poland too, i think that generation the generation of your grandfather and mine was the greatest generation EVER< i think they should be honored even MORE than the ancient patriachs i think, as many are still alive they should be given the BEST of everything as they dont have many more years of life left.

another world.
Can't comment about your haircut, but loved the fact that you care so much for your grandfather and for the heavy toll on small businesses in Israel. It's such a shame that they pay the heaviest price for the more rapacious elements of our capitalist system, when they are the true capitalists: they take the risk, they invest their own money, they may not make a profit, but if they do it's now peanuts because the profit margins are so small. I don't know what the answer is - it surely isn't marxism, where they would fare even worse.
The extremes will join at a certain moment. A very few people will possess everything (we are quite on the way already) The rest will get what one will decide to share. Anyway i know who wins at the end (source the bible).
The solution is to crack down hard on large retailers and e-commerce, charging massive taxes from the owners- and massive sales taxes from the shoppers.
While at the same time subsidizing small retailers- and providing free transportation to the main streets.
Please protect your wonderful grandfather when walking. Not to fast, and watch over his balance. Have one hand free to catch him if necessary. I enjoy your , your great videos, and haircut…

I lived in beersheva for 6 years! And everytime i miss israel, i watch your videos. Your USP is your israeli "accent", body language, etc. Basically it makes me miss israel a little less. The Herzl st shows the true essence of a "normal"/regular israeli street which is exactly what i miss so much. You could have made a longer video. At least a part 2 would be welcome. Your haicut looks pretty good btw.

I lived in Beer Sheba for 6 years too, as a child in the 70’s. So this Herzel Street is the way I remember shopping. Is this Herzel Street in Beer Sheva (I know it’s supposed to be like Anytown USA) maybe you said and I missed that part of the video. Thanks for the video!

What a precious tradition to grab a haircut with your grandfather! Really loved the video. I live in a town where our Main Street is thriving, because it’s the home of Andy Griffith, and we capitalize on that, but I would say most Main Streets in America are dead.

So, Herzl Streets are similar to “Main Street” in the US. I think in England it’s “High Street.” Anyway, for countless American Main Streets the arrival of a Walmart spelled doom for many “Mom and Pop” Stores. Unable to compete for convenience and discounted pricing, these absolute icons of an America long-lost went out of business. Around Thanksgiving there is an organized (and I hope very successful) campaign to get consumers to purchase from small businesses. Ideally Americans should be doing this all throughout the year. Both my grandfathers died before I was born but to spend a day getting a haircut, having lunch and a convivial conversation with my grandfather(s) sounds awesome! Thanks for posting!
It's the same in the UK: small businesses have been struggling and going bankrupt for years due to the huge chain stores and supermarkets. It's such a shame to see generic high streets in every town and city: Starbucks, Costa, Subway, MacDonalds, Wallmart... it's like a little duplicate of the US nowadays, with out of town shopping "villages" built where there were once green fields. I was in the US before Subway came to the UK and I didn't realize at the time it was a huge chain...I thought it was a small independent sandwich shop until it opened across the UK a few years later! I miss the days when there were small, affordable cafes, butchers, bakers, greengrocers, hardware shops and rolling green countryside on the outskirts of every town instead of multinational corporations, motorways, dual carrigeways and sprawling housing developments everywhere...
It's the same in Israel. My friend was so sad about the orange groves in Jaffa being razed to build new housing. So sad.
I wouldn't say that Herzl streets are equivalent to main streets. This one does. All cities have main streets and they are named differently.
The thing is, there are common street names you would find in almost every city and the majors roads are usually named: Herzl, Weizmann, Jaboutinsky, Biyalik, Begin, Ben Gurion, etc.

I first visited Israel in 1978. There were many beautiful things back then that don't exist anymore in Israel and I miss them.

PS. It would be even nicer to interview ordinary people in the street and ask them what they do at the weekend, what foods they like etc. Something like the "Easy German" series on RUclips. Israel isn't just about visiting religious sites or beautiful scenery. It also has fascinating people from all walks of life and backgrounds.

Beautiful! Guides usually show tourists special places, landmarks. Walking casual street, checking out the market, going to the local barber - this gives me the taste of everyday Israel, the way Israelis see it. And I love it! Can't wait till I be able to come for a visit again!

I was surprised to see there were so few people on the street but I was impressed with the modern highway that you drove on from your kibbutz.
When I lived on kibbutz Ayelet HaSchahar in the mid-70s, when I taught ESL at Hula Valley Regional HS, the highway hadn't yet been built.

I love this video. You are right, streets like Herzl St is familiar; it looks like streets in neighborhood business districts where I live, which are also dying for the same reasons. But I love these areas. Maybe these streets will be revived, as at least here, malls are also dying. Love to your grandpa! Your haircut looks amazing. Love your videos. Wow that is so cool, my grandmother was born in 1926 and is still with us. Her mother was kept in a concentration camp (but in South Africa though).

I've often wondered, while watching the vids, where do the people live? We don't see any houses but we do see lots of stone walls. Also some apartment buildings. Do folks live above or in the back of their shops? Those thoughts run in the background of my brain, lol. So, it was good to learn about Grandpa, and the fact that Israel wouldn't exist without him is beautiful. Thanx for getting your hair cut.
