What ever the error just go to the installed updates there.. U can see the failed update just click it goes to the microsoft page ..follow the instructions there or install it manually.
i did everything step by step ,..... and i still have Error 0x80070643 edit: found the problem ,.... my updates were set to delay for 365 days set both back to 0 and bam there we went ,.... so your fix was working !!!!!! many thanks
at the last few steps whereby , I tried to delete the files in the folder catroot2 (I did stop the cryptsvc service), the files could not be deleted, because, they are still being used by windows, what could be the problem? if they are not deleted, could it be a major problem whereby the error update would still persist?

I followed your instructions but nothing worked, only mistake i think i made was i renamed software distribution to software distribution.bakk with extra k. After that i couldnt delete the contents of the folders as you said. I still followed all the other steps till the end and my pc is still having same update issues. I REALLY FEEL BAD ABOUT THIS.

I have dug around a bit into probable causes and solutions but no joy yet so have handed it over to Brian as he knows way more than me and hopefully he can find out what the problem is.
@@Britec09 Hi Brian, just to let you know that I have fixed the problem with me sharing between computers on my network at home after my 1809 update. After watching your video on Windows defender I thought I would give it a try as it seemed to work wonderfully when you tested it so I uninstalled Avast then low and behold my sharing was back in action. One thing with defender that I did find out is unless you are super paranoid, do not enable Controlled Folder Access as it will not allow you to save anything unless you have given that folder or whatever program you are using, permission to write to your disc which had me scratching my head for a little while. Hopefully this helps some people and saves you the trouble of fixing that. Now all I have to do is save all my pennies (about all I have lol) and get an SSD but that's gonna take some time :-) Love ya work and keep it up.
This happened to me today. Good, thorough video. After watching it, and taking notes, before attempting your fixes, I decided to try Windows Update one more time first, and lo and behold, luckily, it was suddenly working again, with no errors! I had read that sometimes this problem "will fix itself eventually", but was skeptical until this happened. Even so, thank you for making helpful videos like this. i know this video is old but when i do the "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Defender\MPCMDRUN.exe" -SignatureUpdate -MMPC its comes back after 42% saying windows resource protectiopn could not perform the requested operation

Hi, i've tried all of this for the "update for windows version 20h2 for x86 - based systems (kb5001716)" and nothing works. It still comes back with this error code. I can't manualy download the update from microsoft either! I've even tried reinstalling windows 10 and it's still the same outcome. i found a solution you need to install windows update assistant and this way you install the updates manually it takes a long time to load but so i updated to 22h2 and windows update is working now
another solution install updates manually with windows update assistant In this way, you will have installed the latest update 22h2. and windows update works again(note:updates takes too long, you have to wait patiently)

Hi Britec Ive some how managed to hold 1809 by setting on metered connection but 1809 is on my downloading list and it says that u can download it whenever u get out of metered connection. I just want to remove 1809 from download list and receive other updates. Do you have any suggestions?
hey brian,i find the windows troubleshooter crap,it never fixed or even gave clues about my sounblaster soundcard that did'nt work so i had to find it myself,after a lot of things,my soundcard is now working as should be pfff,happy hollidays brian
People if these methods don't help you just download Tweaking- Windows Repair go to repairs and check only repair windows update, wait a few minutes and it will fix the error

OK! I am still on win 10 1803 at my PC and prevent it from installing any more updates as when fix the 1809 and other updates. I will make the updates work again that is for me. As for the new update fix. Thanks for sharing the info with all of us. I am looking forward to change my HDD to SDD soon as my HDD physical issues and bad sectors started to show up for using win 10 on it. So will do the whole new windows on new SSD disk soon.

How safe is it to fully update windows 10 now? with all the recent problems I have not updated for months

For me updating Windows Defender Signatures fix a problem.
I get No engine/signature is currently loaded.
When I try to do the remove definitions step I get error '0x80070005' and I am using administrator command prompt.
