I thought that Amy from Little Women was immature, shallow, and selfish but Greta Gerwig's adaptation made me see her in a new light. Amy's speech on marriage and money as a woman is my favorite part of the movie.
Please do a overprotective dad trope Edit: and i mean dad and daughter relationship, how he wants his female kid/kids to stay pure and untouched by other men, but is cool with his male kids being literal predators to other females Edit 2: overprotective mom would be cool too, she worships her son and bullies his girlfriend or wife (there is no woman good enough for her perfect son)
@@dsmyify Wealth isn't usually earned by that person, either. The system is built to keep the wealthy people wealthy, through enheritances, for generations. And keep the poor people poor.
This reminds me of how many Americans viewed bank robbers as something like heroes during the Great Depression. They were striking against the guys who crashed the economy.
I used to really dislike this trope. I despised the stereotype that always assumed women were extremely shameless and manipulative monsters who intend to exploit other people’s money, more often in regard to men. However, in retrospect, knowing how for a long time women couldn’t get a job or even open a bank account in their own name without the written permission of their husband, I feel more sympathetic and sometimes even proud when I see women earn their coin. It’s interesting to see how we’re more understanding and supportive of this trope currently compared to previous generations before.
There's no excuse now. Hasn't been for decades. In Hustlers they're literally just in league with Cardi B and Bill Cosby. This channel is pretty gross for that heroic line.
She was and still is so sadly misunderstood. The persona we judge her for was for the movies only; IRL she was quiet and contemplative with simple tastes, and even her former husband Arthur Miller said she read as many books as he did, that she was anything but vapid. I found a book called "Fragments" years ago that had some of her poetry and scribbled thoughts and she had a whole other talent that could have blossomed with the right help and support.
Her marilyn monroe persona was so much different than her real personality. She was shy, smart, and she even had a stutter. She cared about fame, but she didn't care about money
We live in a society that doesn't really rewards poor people for working hard, while rich people exploit them, so, yeah, f*cking get that bag, specially using all of those stereotypes that have been used to ridicule women

It's just misogyny, it's fine for men like Leo and Hugh Hefner to date young and beautiful women only for their looks but the moment a woman dates a man for his assets she's a gold digger. People act like those relationships aren't mutually beneficial or that the woman is conning the man, he 100% knows you think Hefner thought he was a catch at his age?
He knew exactly what he was. But a relationship based on "This is a temporary, mutual gross deal" is very different from one based on "I hope he/she dies while we're together, the sooner the better".
@@davestevens6283 Gold diggers don't "hope" someone dies at all that has nothing to do with gold digging. That tends to happen if a gold digger is with a significantly older man like a 65+ year old however the man in that case isn't delusional and many of them purposely seek a relationship because they want to find someone to give their inheritance too, they know they're old and that they'll die soon.
@@abilea4081 You brought up Hefner as an example - so I followed. But in general - a gold digger is pretty much defined as someone for whom their partners' almost sole value is in the monetary advantages they bring Meaning if the partner is worth the same or even more dead - it's better, since they also regain their freedom.
Yeah it’s always “why are these hot young women dating old men” and never “why are these old men dating these hot young women.” I would argue the relationship of gold digging-sugar daddying doesn’t just go both ways, I would argue the men benefit more and ultimately hold more power still. Bc for the men it’s always a choice, and the Wall Street type of money to spare anyways, but for the women, if you have little economic opportunity and you’re constantly disadvantaged in the workplace, are you really “choosing” to enter into these relationships?
It's less of a choice for the men. Most men only get a choice later in life when they get richer. That's the key difference. It's like a man dying in a desert coming across some dirty water. Why do you think they call it being "thirsty"?
@@TributesAndUnique well that type of inequality still exist, I know a few cases of middle age to old men that purposely search very young, beautiful and almost always very poor, whit little or no opportunity for education or anything else, or in a desperate situation. For those girls marring an old man is pure survival, and the thing is as time past, this has I see it evolve normally ends in an abusive relationship, where the men know he has all the power and is not afraid to use it or abuse it. This is not always the case obviously, sometimes both parties understand the situation and is more of a pracmatic situation, but still is not always a stupid girl that wants easy money and doesn't care about anything else.
Also, reputationally, it's always the women that are affected far more significantly than the men. For men, it's just the norm; of course,he's going to date someone younger and hotter but for women, it's considered "immoral" when they also benefit from the arrangement.
Ex👏🏻act👏🏻tly. Besides a woman’s youth is seeing as a commodity. Once is gone is gone. But a guy can be 90 and still be an eligible bachelor. So he always buys young women. So why do people feel sorry for this nasty men???
Debbie from "Addams Family Values" is the definitive, most entertaining example. She's unapologetic about what she does, and Joan Cusack plays her so hammily, that's it's easy to feel bad for her. She also fits in well with the kooky clan, so much so that they simply don't care that she's a serial killer! 😂🖤
Why are gold diggers seen as worse than the people they exploit. The people who get to such a position (a majority of the time) exploit thousands if not millions to get to where they are now so its simply somebody mooching off of the exploiters of exploiters.
@Clever name If "Honestly" means you exploited workers for the sole purpose of making yourself more money, then, yeah they did earn their money honestly. But how do you think you get to the "1%" where do you get the money to invest if you can barely even afford your rent. How do you afford to become a lawyer if you can't afford law school and the monthly loans you are going to accrue, or a doctor with daily tests averaging $100-$300 each, certifications or finding the time to work to attend lectures, do homework , have clinic hours etc. I feel like you don't understand that a majority of people who are going to become lawyers or doctors usually have extremely close relations with their parents allowing them to have access to more living and monetary resources. I myself wanted to become a doctor but I realized I wouldn't be able to financially support myself throughout that time and my mom wouldn't either. It's not that black and white and if you make "your" money from the exploitation of overseas workers and underpay your workers for the value THEY make you then you didn't "honestly" make your money in my opinion and I don't really see the difference between them and a gold digger ethically
@@bannedmann4469 I didn't say they were all cons I said they exploit people (not paying them for their value) and accrue the amount of money THEY make and instead of investing that into their workers (raising wages, adding benefits) a majority of the time, to make more money, they lay people off who are experienced because they cost more and leave just enough of them to train those who are new who they get to pay less and overwork. It's not communist propaganda it's the reality of capitalism, it just sounds unappealing when it's not coming from a right-wing zealot.

First! Do you all think you can do a video on the homemaker and how she's depicted as either very chipper or stressed out or very discontented with the limitations placed on her or reduced to her looks?
Congratulations on being first! 🎊👏🏾 I agree, the housewife is usually depicted as being bored, and wanting a life beyond tending to her husband and children's needs, which tends to lead to an affair with a dashing stranger.
@@trinaq And some period pieces show whether you are married to Ward Cleaver or Don Draper or worse Kevin Whalen from Mrs America factors into your feelings about being a Housewife and your cheeriness too.
I thought the Umbrella Academy plays on this trope very well where the mother, Grace, is actually a robot designed to be the perfect house wife and mother.
I think it’s because the homemaker sort of does depend on a good husband to mother. The husband has to have the same goal of parenting and being a good husband and father, which society no longer champions in men. It’s not exactly a balanced approach since society really doesn’t get that keeping a home, being a wife and managing a child is a lot of work. Especially since the women that do this seldom have less than two kids, they usually have more. It also makes it really difficult depending on the industry for a man to take time off to recover and rest or most men seldom do more than just work. Trust me I grew up in this system. Most housewives end up extremely unhappy as more often than not, the husband eventually gets bored and wants a different vibe. The housewives end up in trouble since they don’t have career experience or connections since they put all their eggs in one basket.
The men who often really hate gold diggers are the ones who don't have enough money to exploit them. Men love gold diggers when they are well off enough to exploit women. I have never seen most "gold digging" women in the real world as villainous. Me. I prefer just to get my own instead of have to fake interest in someone I can't stand. I am way to honest and assertive to pull it off.
@@Acidfunkish Femcles exist. Their subreddit constantly whined about how easy life is for attractive women. They hated men for being seduced by Stacies.
I still think a modern interpretation of a gold digger isn't necessarily heroic; not as villainous as her husband, but ultimately her way of life depends on maintaining her husband's status. unless the gold-digger gives back to the affected community, or works to take away her husband's power, she is just another grifter who benefits from the subjugation of the masses. Note, that I am not saying she is automatically a villain; just that she shouldn't be praised for being self-interested.
You should have also used Reese Witherspoon's character in Vanity Fair, & how she was judged for marrying into a wealthy family instead of staying within her class.

Two things I've seen an awful lot of IRL: Men who flaunt their money to attract women, then are insecure that the women they attracted are only after their money. Women who flaunt their sexuality, then are hurt or angry the men they attracted are just after the sex. What they have in common is a willful obliviousness to the connection between HOW they attract and WHAT they attract.
I liked your comment and agree that this happens. But I must cite Marilyn's monologue at the end of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes here for a second. It's just as easy to fall in love with a pooran as a rich man. And just like a man wouldn't marry a girl just because she's pretty, gee, it sure does help. But riddle me this: why aren't gorgeous hit ripped hung pretty boys on your comparison? Hmmmmm? How come men that attract using their sexuality aren't in your example of in real life exploitation anxiety? Probably because when a gorgeous man is wanted by a woman, she wants to LOVE him and marry him and make him happy and satisfy him sexually and emotionally. So a want attracting with her beauty and sexuality and then being seen as only that has every right to feel dehumanized. Why do women adore what they are attracted to while men loathe and exploit and despise women the more attracted they are to them? It would be cool if one could wear a sandwich board over a burqa with our IQ scores and how many languages we speak and how many instruments we play and are EQ level and Big 5 personality traits and psychological assssments to attract a mate. But it doesn't work like that, for one thing. For another even if this hypothetical setting would take place, men would absolutely choose the objectify less intelligent women to lie readily control and to feel superior. But also? Both financial security and sexual attraction are incredibly important facets of romantic partnerships! Just like I love cooking and wining and dining a new partner, I would be legitimately hurt if I found out they ONLY got with me for my meals. So a person has every right to be upset for being so dehumanized as to be appreciated ONLY for one attractive trait instead of as a human that contains multitudes. But even when a woman wants a man JUST FOR MONEY... She wants to give him marriage. Sex. Companionship. Arm candy. A wife. Children. Housework. Emotional labor, etc for that money. That's more than anyone gets from anyone ever. When men use women for sex, they literally just use them as an object and don't even give the woman any sexual pleasure. So it's a false equivalency to suggest both types of exploitations are the same. But I agree with you that the willful ignorance exists. But if a man attracts a woman with money, he gets to control exactly what they do. He has plenty of time to show his personality. Or even his sexual prowess! It SHOULD be the same when a woman attracts with her looks or sexuality.... But somehow we are trained to despise what arouses us.

Gold diggers are always the only ones portrayed as these evil people as if men didn't exploit them in a way too.
This is what I have been saying. These men know! They know! Even with wealthy older men who were previously married, the new woman they are with are much younger and beautiful. They themselves go seek these women.
Why should an old rich man be with an average instead of an young beautiful lively funny woman ? If you could attract Brad Pitt, Leonardo Di Caprio, Dwayne The Rock Johnson, Jason Momoa, Elon Musk, etc you would. No puns intended. This video total comment section is literally women being upset that the most desirable men do not pick them. I have seen so many black cop/father characters in popular culture. Like from B99, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs or Spiderman Spiderverse. Maybe you guys can make a trope video about it? It would be really great to watch
Nah. The girls in Hustlers were absolutely criminals. 😂 But I get the gist of what y’all are saying. However, this trope is definitely not “liberating”. The so-called gold-digger is no more free than she was before because she’s still dependent on that uneven dynamic. She is just being compensated for it, so she’s a lot more stable (even if she’s no less disposable). That system has brought women stability and survival since forever. We only engaged in it because of our limited options. It’s an old way, but it’s not ideal. The fact that it still persists in modern times only speaks to an ugly reality. It’s nothing to feel positively about. Nobody should *have* to use sexual politics to climb the socioeconomic ladder in 2021. At the end of the day, I think women- and men- should get it how they live it as long as both sides know what’s up. 🤷🏽♀️ But let’s not glamorize these choices. We can empathize with this lifestyle and put into historical context without spinning it.
What men and women look for in the opposite sex is, as the Take pointed out, is instinctual and biological and such shouldn’t be turned into politics anymore than your mouth watering when you smell food should.
@@Vickiluv Yet isn't the ability to move beyond ones primal instincts and urges what makes humans so special? Shouldn't people strife to use their mind, instead of just their instincts?

HERE IS AN IDEA FOR A VIDEO: The Plastic Trope or any other name that refers to women in movies who are obsessed with staying young and beautiful. We see them in movies all the time. A movie that stands out to me the most is Death Becomes Her (Merly Steep and Goldie Hawn). Both women take a mysterious tonic that makes them look young and gorgeous but they pay a hefty price!

@Madama Belladonna true! Just because we have basic standards which these men can’t meet! If they don’t meet then... we don’t need to keep them lol.. pathetic fragile male egos
If both, woman and man agree on this exchange (money/status x tender/sex/attention) then it's OK, It's as clear as traditional marriage. The problem starts when one of them is looking for something else or fooling the other...
There's an excellent Brazilian movie called "The Man Who Copied", which a character says "having a poor father is destiny, having a poor husband is stupidity"
This reminds me of that Whitney Cummings joke that men were the original gold diggers, as in they dug up all the gold and left none for the women so of course we had to use our feminine wiles XD
All I just have to say is that we need to let woman choose what they want we shouldn't shame them for choosing a path we already have a society that shames women horribly
@Me We how does a gold digger harm because last time I checked men can go around looking for a beautiful women they can usually go hit it and quit it which and they can go around with their promiscuous behavior and they are patted on the back but when a women does something that requires her natural needs that benifit her and most likely her children she's now getting shamed
@Me We well all I'm just saying is girls need to invest immediately because us as females kind of have limited time. Because when we leave our prime years things go downhill so if you learn now and play the game we will most likely succeed because evan female animals know to pick the best mate with the best resources birds will mate with a female birds will be big nested bird who can protect. Also look at most female species most resources mean most protect as woman we hold the children and we just we need to keep them in a stable environment sure love is love but love doesn't pay the bills
@Me We lol don't be silly most young girls that runaway from home are not as sheltered and naive they usually had bad childhood or some kind of trauma and matured much faster than their average teenage counterparts and for your information it way better for her to engage in a mutually beneficial relationship based on her own terms than to be taken by some pimp on the streets who will stuff drugs in her to sleep with multiple men and take all the money for himself
@@Acidfunkish yeah that's what I'm saying invest now so later doesn't lead to regret which is why if kids excercise now and keep invested than as adults we are less likely to have joint pains and other bad stuff because we need to take advantage of our youth because sooner or later it will disappear it's the harsh bitter truth
See and i respect that you are calling both bad if thats your opinion. Its just weird to me when people want to pretend that like a golddigger is worse than a beauty/youthdigger.
I think the part of the video taking about sugarbabies and sugardaddies addressed that. Both people are consensually using each other. The old rich men want young beautiful women, and the women want money. I personally think these arrangements are bad because it requires the woman to exploit herself and her body, and the man holds power over her because he knows she is young, dependent, and probably not that financially stable. It's all a mess. I don't think there's anything wrong with guys wanting a beautiful girlfriend or women wanting a boyfriend/husband with lots of money. The problem comes when that's the ONLY reason for the relationship. If he doesn't like anything about the girl except the fact that she's "hot" and eye candy to parade around, he's shallow. And if she can't stand the guy, but is hanging around to get his money and material possessions, she's equally shallow. Yet there are people who are perfectly happy in these kinds of relationships, so what do I know 🤷♀️
I would not characterize Ginger from the movie "Casino" as a gold digger. She was supremely greedy and materialistic (just like the male characters), but she was also entirely up front about who she was in her relationship with Ace Rothstein. HE had to convince HER to get married...! Unlike the typical character type, she wasn't trying to trick anybody into getting what she wanted.
Still, the lie remains: gold diggers and sugar daddies do not really love the person they claim they do. No matter how inspirational or refreshing we may see it.
Can you make a video on any of the following tropes: 1) the wallflower 2) the Eastern European 'villain'? I'd love to see your take on either one of them :)
I'm surprised Daisy from The Great Gatsby wasn't brought up as an example of a gold digger, in high school everyone hated her character for seeming selfish and exploitative
Was she a gold digger, though? In the book she certainly didn't come from a poor family, and she and Gatsby couldn't marry because he had no prospects at the time. Also, she and Tom had known each other since their teens and there was admittedly a toxic love between the two that made her stick with him. Daisy always struck me as just being a lazy, shallow woman who bent to the will of the strongest man, with no real inner compass of her own.
People dare to look down on golddiggers, like looking for rich men to fall in love with is a LESS dignified life than doing menial labor for trust fund rich boy CEOs. Hahahaha
@Christopher Reynolds my comment was about the fake pretend dignity people give to drudgery and the pretend disdain they claim to feel towards golddiggers, when it is obviously much more dignified to find someone to love you and take care of you than it is to be exploited for labor to make billions of dollars for the boss. People call gold diggers whores, meanwhile are performing back breaking labor to line the pockets of the boss who is paying for the gold diggers wonderful lifestyle. So dumb.
Also the ‘Fairy tale princess” who marries a rich prince because she doesn’t seem to want his money...men are happy to bring women up as long as he doesn’t see her as exploitative.
Our narratives are always misogynistic at heart. A woman who goes after a younger guy is called cougar - clearly an insult but a man is called "sugar daddy" and even in this case the woman is the "gold digger " and a negative predatory word.
You forgot the best gold-digger of them all: Daphne from 1959's "Some Like It Hot". She is relentlessly pursued by the millionaire Osgood Fielding III. At first she tries to escape him, but when he proposes, she decides to marry him and then divorce him and take half of his money. She says she will cite the fact that she is actually a man masquerading as a woman in order to hide from the mob as the grounds for the divorce. Shenanigans ensue (if you haven't seen it, watch it, it's a great movie, Marilyn Monroe's in it, but SPOILERS!) and finally, as Daphne and her friends are sailing off in Osgood's boat, she starts to lists reason why he can't marry her. He replies calmly to all her responses. When she finally reveals that she's a man, Osgood simply says, "Well, nobody's perfect." And you're left with the feeling the marriage may go ahead. How's that for subverting the gold digger trope?!
gold diggers and femme fatales are really close, they may be considered evil but they are just smart enough to play the game and get some benefit from it. You know, man want beauty, youth, service, submission but if a woman asks for financial secutiry OMG, how she dare to be so shallow!!! no hate but some man love having double standards
Strange if you claim people to be smart when they go into relationships because of money instead of love. Those women will never be happy for long. A sad life.
You know what I have learned the most from The Take? That the &%*$&! Hayes Code shaped and destroyed so much for women in the US over the 20th century.
More power to the woman who hustles to get her coins. However I smh at the woman who chooses to be the "gold digging" mistress to a married men. The wife & kids didn't agree to have their pockets emptied, the husband did. It's unfair that they should get screwed over because the husband wants his ego stroked
I don't know how to tell you, but pursuing an unhealthy relationship purely for material gain without any love and possibly forcing your children to grow up in a loveless marriage is... bad.

Is there a trope about the status obsessed upper class person who only wants to be with someone who makes them look better, like Warner in Legally Blonde wanting a Jackie instead of Marilyn so he looks more presentable for a political career?? I feel like I've seen that kind of character in different pieces of media.
That would be interesting, if somewhat similar to the gold digger trope. I always see the relationships you described as definitely being more political, like those "power couples" you see in Washington who probably hate each other but know how influential they are as a unit.
@@studiostyx7075 That is exactly what I was thinking. Though the trope also appears with the mean popular (typically) girl wanting to date the popular guy because they look good together, even if they have nothing in common. I think there is also aspect of people being like "thats not romantic" or "that isn't true love! Marriage and relationships should be about love!". Though honestly, people can be very hypocritical regarding what they believe to be love or romantic :p Plus people have different ideas about love or romance anyway. For some reason most people don't seem to consider having conversation about your mutual future goals, plans and expectations for relationship before you start dating so you can avoid misunderstandings and disagreements down the line that could have been avoided in first place with good communication to be "romantic". Why does all romance media have to be about drama and communication issues?)

Who wants to see the Take do a video focusing on the Hayes Code? It’s shown up in multiple trope videos and I think merits a closer look in terms of how it broadly shaped how people were portrayed in cinema, as a compliment to the various specific impacts on individual tropes.
Ah, yes, tips. The extra money only pretty women get if they work in the service industry and not any other. There’s still going to be a pay gap, since being a woman affects the trajectory of your career, not just the day to day.
@@lindenshepherd6085 I've seen receptionists take tips too. It's women wherever they are, and it's people like you that ignore all of that illegally unclaimed income that are part of the problem, and also your chauvinistic assumption that only pretty women make tips. At the end of the day, we just don't know how much of the gap will close when tips are claimed, but my money is that it will be quite substantial.
@@lindenshepherd6085 also, you do realize how vastly huge the service industry IS, right? There are more Macdonald's, Jimmy Johns, and Arby's, than warehouses and hair salons. When a woman becomes a waitress, she automatically makes half the wage, as a requirement for tip-taking jobs. That affects the pay gap. Even jobs that don't allow tips, the qomen still take them. Every service job I worked when I was young, Dunkin' Donuts, Jimmy Johns, etc., women werr constantly reprimanded for getting caught using tip cups, but it was never a write-up, just a light scolding. Guys would try, but guys don't make tips, just a general fact. If you're too blind to see that tips are likely the balancing factor in the wage gap, then you really need to step outside of your shelter more often.
Oh, yea, my step uncle and his wife are both plumbers, his wife makes ranfom tips too, and without being mean, she looks like she's a plumber, so your whole "only pretty girls make tips, and only in the service industry," assumption just betrays your ignorance. Unless, you count trades as part of the service industry, which you should stop doing.

It's weird how it's okay for a rich and powerful man to choose a wife based only on youth, attractiveness and sexuality, like it's the only valuable traits a woman can have. I guess it's good to have stories where women take advantage of men undermining them. Still, the fact that it works this way says something about society.
The old man trope. your typical man's man that knows practically everything there is to know about life. usually does activities like golfing, drinking, smoking, gambling, fishing and hunting once in a while, and sometimes knows how to fix problems.
The Parent Trap was pretty good imho, because I felt like Meredith was so... human! Because she was a fleshed out character with a motive, a story, showed her emotion, what she thought and felt, and had an actual personality. You learned what she likes and hates yadda yadda. And she dared to be vulnerable at times around the kids. And even though she had some shitty motives (selfish), she wasn't inherently evil, she didn't hurt anyone and wasn't abuse as far as I could remember. I wouldn't like her as a person myself, but I do see her as a person. It was pretty good!! Really well acted and well written.
Maybe it's because I was already an adult when I watched Parent Trap for the first time, but I've always struggled with the narrative of Meridith being this villainous gold digger. Like Elaine Hendrix said, she already had her own money and career, and when we meet her for the first time she is actually nice to the child. It's the twins that decide she's got to go - and even then Meridith only really snaps after the kids put a lizard in her hair and pushed her onto a lake while she was asleep lmao. She obviously wasn't a kids person but I do think that they could've made it work if it wasn't for the twin's shenanigans.
Please do the Psycho crush/lover please. Like the characters that either have a crush on one of the main or secondary characters and they’re like obsessed over them. Like they go to their parents house or plan their wedding early. And the secondary or main character is totally creeped out by this and tries to avoid them. Or how they take a good character of a series and they turn her into a psycho lover to the main character (For example: Tonya from One-on-One during the last few episodes of season 1) And how it’s different for a girl’s crush than a boy’s who have a crush on the main or secondary character. (Like if the girl has a crush on the secondary or main character, she’s obsessed over him. But when it’s a boy, he just repeatedly flirts with the girl even though she rejected him. She show this by rolling her eye, ignores him or just let it happens and not care. And when the boy flirt with the girl while everyone ignores it.) (Example is Brady with Michaela during season 1 and 2 of pair of kings)
I thought that Amy from Little Women was immature, shallow, and selfish but Greta Gerwig's adaptation made me see her in a new light. Amy's speech on marriage and money as a woman is my favorite part of the movie.

I used to really dislike this trope.
@@abilea4081 You brought up Hefner as an example - so I followed.

Two things I've seen an awful lot of IRL:
Men who flaunt their money to attract women, then are insecure that the women they attracted are only after their money.
Women who flaunt their sexuality, then are hurt or angry the men they attracted are just after the sex.
What they have in common is a willful obliviousness to the connection between HOW they attract and WHAT they attract.
🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🥰🙌🙌
Pretty much.
Well... this is actually the best comment on the whole video.
This is IT!

Now a days woman are expected to pay half the bills... and most end up doing the majority of the household tasks and childbearing, period tax, and lower wages... so my advice is get a rich man or stay single
@@Chris-rg6nm ?
A lot of assumptions here, how about find a man that you love *and* someone who is financially stable huh?
Side note: Is it wrong to expect a woman to pay half the bills in a relationship? Not trying to sound rude or mean!
@@GameChanger-xi4iy what 2 men?! One you love and one who is successful?!
LMAO, "by shamelessly pretending to be attracted to older men" 🤣😂
I am glad that Meredith Blake got the attention she deserves in this video. That character was iconic, perfectly portrayed, and unforgettable.
She was the best part of that movie
There's an excellent Brazilian movie called "The Man Who Copied", which a character says "having a poor father is destiny, having a poor husband is stupidity"
And hypergamy is nature
If you are not a gold digger you're living your life backwards Ladies . men are not seeking average women so why should you seek average men
R.I.P common logic 😂😂😂.
No, don‘t ever make yourself financially dependent on a man. That doesn‘t work and please don’t glamorize it.
@@wutanglza1235 it's dumb to spend it on expensive bags and shoes . stack it. Invest it
I LOVE THIS ENERGY HAHAHA 💀💀💀
@Personal Jesus You know you can do both right?
@az_koala 30+ women aren't what wealthy trophy-wife seekers are looking for.
Wanting men only for their money is just as bad as wanting women only for their body. Call it what you want, but that's true.
Could you do the "fiery redhead girl with freckles" trope? Examples: Anne Shirley, Annie, Pippi Longstocking.
Also: Ygritte, Mystique, Sansa Stark (Kind of) Black Widow, Merida, Jessie from Toy Story, Donna Pinciotti, Jean Grey

Can you make a video on any of the following tropes:
1) the wallflower
2) the Eastern European 'villain'?
Melania, we see you!
Amber Heard, we see you :-)
It's a transaction her youth and beauty for his money.
Our narratives are always misogynistic at heart. A woman who goes after a younger guy is called cougar - clearly an insult but a man is called "sugar daddy" and even in this case the woman is the "gold digger " and a negative predatory word.
The word cougar is an insult?
Hey now, I like cougars 😀
Where I am from an older man that dates a much younger women is called a cradle snatcher. So... there's that.
@Ru paul I can give a list boy. Stop the bs.
How is "cougar" an insult?
The Pre Code Hollywood talkies are my favorite era of film. So much was lost that we are only recently getting back.
U know I’d love to see a breakdown of the idea of “wealth” and “freedom” often being equated
Daphne is definitely one of the best gold diggers.
gold diggers and femme fatales are really close, they may be considered evil but they are just smart enough to play the game and get some benefit from it. You know, man want beauty, youth, service, submission but if a woman asks for financial secutiry OMG, how she dare to be so shallow!!! no hate but some man love having double standards
Asking for financial security is something and exploiting their partners is something else
The mistress knows that the husband has a wife and kids.
I don't know how to tell you, but pursuing an unhealthy relationship purely for material gain without any love and possibly forcing your children to grow up in a loveless marriage is... bad.
That is a ho,not a gold digger
It’s called a hussle, sweetheart

I've also seen the reverse - perhaps it's less a character trope and more of a narrative trope instead.

(on sidenote, also getting annoyed of romantic comedies where one in pair is suddenly like "we have been dating for years but we never discussed before that one of us is uncomfortable with idea of marriage or having children". Why does all romance media have to be about drama and communication issues?)
I really appreciate when you put what film/series a clip is from.
"Vicki" From the OG parent trap is my fave Gold digger. She was so stinkin gorgeous, I might be a little gay for her.
I love that she plays Meredith's mom in the remake. That's a fun little cameo.
You should do a video on the bad teacher trope (AP Bio, Teachers, Bad Teacher, Community, Bad Education)
Can you do the 'asexual villain' trope? It is a very harmful stereotype that makes it seem like asexuals are evil because of their lack of sexuality.
Edit: spelling
Wait that’s a thing?? Which villains are asexual, I must’ve missed the subtext
Where that trope from? I've never seen a asexual villiain before.
That exists???
You mean like Buffalo Bill from "Silence of the Lambs"?

Since Valentines is coming up can y’all do a video on unconventional romance and couples in media (like Morticia and Gomez Addams for example). Especially the ones that you’d normally think wouldn’t work, but are actually perfect together
The thing is, there are so many guys who complain that they have to pay on dates all the time. But I’ve offered to pay several times and they always decline, I’ve even had guys show off their money to me. I mean I’m not poor, I could pay, I would pay! But if they’re so insistent on showing me that they’re oh so rich, then sure, be my guest. They do be hypocrites though.
Tbh it's kinda easy to avoid gold diggers. The problem is when kids get brought up in this "arrangement".
Can you guys please do some Parks and Recreation videos? Like one on Ben and Leslie's relationship or maybe Ron?
The song literally explains it all
What is the clip around 4:30 "Oh, it's so hard to be good under the capitalist system" from?
I figured it out. It's from golddiggers of 1937, about an hour and ten minutes in.
Who wants to see the Take do a video focusing on the Hayes Code? It’s shown up in multiple trope videos and I think merits a closer look in terms of how it broadly shaped how people were portrayed in cinema, as a compliment to the various specific impacts on individual tropes.
I'd like to see how fast that pay gap closes once women start claiming their tips.
I love this episode- I have always been in awe of gold-diggers
I remember someone (who did not like me at all) said to me : "You're a fucking blonde, you will only be a stupid and vapid gold digger." I swear I was thinking 'damn she loves cliché don't she?"
I always loved gold diggers in old films, I understand better why.
Great video as always. Is there a way you could include a list of the films and series you refer to, please?
It's weird how it's okay for a rich and powerful man to choose a wife based only on youth, attractiveness and sexuality, like it's the only valuable traits a woman can have. I guess it's good to have stories where women take advantage of men undermining them. Still, the fact that it works this way says something about society.
A modern gold digger as the protagonist is Audrey Tautou in Hors de Prix (Priceless). The French have a much more romantic take on gold digging.
Or how they take a good character of a series and they turn her into a psycho lover to the main character
(For example: Tonya from One-on-One during the last few episodes of season 1)
And how it’s different for a girl’s crush than a boy’s who have a crush on the main or secondary character.
(Like if the girl has a crush on the secondary or main character, she’s obsessed over him. But when it’s a boy, he just repeatedly flirts with the girl even though she rejected him. She show this by rolling her eye, ignores him or just let it happens and not care.
And when the boy flirt with the girl while everyone ignores it.)
(Example is Brady with Michaela during season 1 and 2 of pair of kings)
Please do a healthy relationship trope
LOVE this video! I really enjoy the exploration of the trope through time and its relevance to different time periods/eras
The Hayes Code has a fucking lot to answer for
It’s also worth mentioning that in Hustlers they went too far and hurt people who didn’t deserve it
