@16:00 as a 40yr old oilfield worker in ND, US I must thank you for (very) recently introducing me to Mark's ideas. And even more gratitude should be expressed for continuing the trajectory of hashing this shit out. Thank you
I think like many musicians Fisher has changed the focus of my creative output. He opened a door for me onto a landscape haunted by the spectre of any possible future beyond the current hegemony being cancelled. I wish Fisher was still alive and grappling with the next steps: how can we live with the overwhelming knowledge?
@@lastmatch1111 - interesting. When you say ‘stand outside society and culture,’ I wonder what, in addition to society and culture you believe yourself to be composed of? Genuinely interested. Your soul? Something eternal about your individuality? I’m getting a slight whiff of libertarianism here. Despite my own spiritual preference being communism I am interested in your contention. Tell me, are you an American?
What's a mentally ill negative soul who could accept reality. He long for the old days until he was bitterly angry and depressed. He died of nostalgia.
God I love what you guys do so much. I’m an undergrad philosophy student and some of your stuff has been a great help! Will donate on Patreon soon. Please keep up the amazing work!
first comment! also jesus christ, i've rly delved down the mark fisher rabbit-hole in the last few months, and i've rly come to relate to the guy. judging how things turned, prolly not a good thing. and yet i dont seem to be changing anytime soon. i can't help but hate the capitalist dystopia of "work"-- I'm ALWAYS looking at david graeber stuff, and fisher... well, he soothes me in that direction, too. yee, sorry, im rambling, but i'm glad to be able to check out the final lectures from fisher.
I understand it’s hard to be both intellectual and emotionally sensitive- because you can’t dissociate into ignorant bliss. I deal with it by channeling what Chris Hedges say... that there is No hope in disassociation and denial... hope can only exist when people are willing to acknowledge where we are. I think of it as a duty to hold the knowledge and carry on the best I can to be a positive force within my relationships. I try to challenge myself to have ideas outside the dead paradigm and am studying deleuze to help open my mind to thinking in my field outside of individualism. I also let myself feel anger and maintain confidence in resisting consumerism and pressure to participate in dominant culture. I find listening to nirvana gives me that feeling and motivation to remain strong in my convictions. But if you struggle with depression or find it taking you to a dark place - make sure you take advantage of whatever inadequate tools available to keep yourself alive and functioning enough to take care of yourself and/or those who depend on you. After deep diving into reading DAvud foster wallace and baudrillard - I had to break down and take the pills to pull myself out of bed. Also dig as deep as you can into your relationships - create interdependence - ultimately we are evolved to live with and for eachother. Ofcourse capitalism has messed with our bonding instincts and ability to cooperate etc... but you can resist this force by working to try and build non- transactional, interdependent and non-transactional relationships in your own life (yes it’s really hard). Anyways wishing you the best.

I never understand all the fuss with Fisher. Obviously he doesn't stand on the same level as D&G. His pals like Land or Negarestani offer far more interesting concepts or madness. The only thing Fisher did good was resonating with the left in his culture criticism. He became popular in art and music scene. But it is like virtue signaling. His ideas on capitalism and its critique do not offer any meaningful strategy nor tactics. Its sad to say but his suicide is quite logical. Nevertheless after this podcast I understand that he was a great guy and teacher and so on.

Stay alive out of spite and a desire to mete out justice.
@@scientifico I kinda like the the idea of staying alive out of spite.
Make your own future. Don't rely on society and culture. They are hegemonic by nature

Thank you 🙏🏽
Whats good with the intense amount of intrusive ads?
I just made sure an ad would never interrupt a video again. If you see one in the future, feel free to let me know!
@@AcidHorizon great. I understand monetization but where it was at felt a little ironic with the content of the channel
It’s capitalism 🥳
Oh dear, I have to check myself as I often hear Mark's as Marx.
That's Derrida's hauntology.
Thank you should try and flesh out Mark’s Wikipedia page - it’s too lite
23:00
Minute 23 and so far not a single concept is being discussed. All biographic, hagiographic, anecdotal comments. Zero concepts.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaay too many ads
Well, pay for the service , it’s capitalism after all 🤷♂️
