    Great info! I am in the process of following a pattern to make my leather sandal. I test used cork as a lining for my leather slides. Seems like I messed up somewhere with using my barge glue and adding my cork sole in between. Not sure I will use the cork sole again though.

    what about the piece that goes between the toes in the front? it looks like if you put the two edges stitched facing away from the foot it would be more comfy. great looking flops tho

    Ha; I’m a commercial diver and welder too.. I’ve done a little real smithing but generally I’m dong structural welding UW or dry.
    I’m looking at as many RUclips videos on the subject and I like how you sew everything down instead of simply glueing it.. even the store bought shoes are only glued. I’ll be sewing mine too.
    You sound like you don’t mind experimenting.. what do you think of adding a slight rise to the back end; kinda to build up an arch like a dress shoe would have?
    Then I’m thinking about increasing the width of the outer strap with some kind of art relating to the sea. Maybe with colors.

    • @wornwizard
      @wornwizard  7 лет назад

      DALE thebelldiver I say try it out. This was just a design I did a few times and I like the aesthetic. There is room for improvement. I'm no cobbler or shoe maker, just a guy who likes to make stuff.

    What about using a thicker and treaded sole? I’m assembling the materials now to make a pair of something like these.
    I’m thinking of adding a slight heel, an arch cushion and one wide strap.
    So; the construction will be a heel, sole, core stock, a wedge,mid sole, leather top sole then cover the top sole with a durable hide with a stitch look I can change out without a whole lot of disassembly. I want these to last a long long time.
    This will be my first pair. My so called teacher/ mentor never made nothing from scratch and he’s been repairing shoes for 40+ years.
    Well; I’m wearing what ever turns out and I expect top quality. Time is on my side to do it right. I just need the right and correct advice.

      DALE thebelldiver Go for it. I just ordered some Vibram Cherry soling material to try out. I learn from doing, reviewing, and improving my methods.

    Appreciate you taking the time to answer these questions. I like the idea of heel cushions, hope you post about it after trying. I asked about arch support on the flip flop video, maybe you could experiment with that too. Keep up the good work :)

    This is a older video, but can you tell me what type of belt sander that is your using?

    • @wornwizard

      It's a grizzly 1015

      MakerDad thanks, I have been looking for a sander to eliminate the chances of unintentional placed flat spots in my sandals and flip flops, looks like it would be nice on belts and holsters too,

    • @wornwizard
      @wornwizard  5 лет назад

      @@dusty265 It should work. I would consider a kmg style grinder if I could donit again. Much more versatile. You can get a 10" wheel, variable speed, and various other wheel sizes and attachments.

    I just finished my first pair of leather slides. They look pretty good, but aren’t very comfy :(( i’m having a really hard time finding some kind of a firm but foamy material to use for soling. So much stuff sellers will only sell to shoemakers with a tax ID number and that really sucks. Or the really cool comfy inserts supplies only come from China or India which makes it impossible to order.

    Hello sir how you doing. Man I want to say you did an excellent job of making those leather flip-flops. They look so nice and comfortable. Flip flops is the only thing that I can wear because I have very very extremely wide feet with fat wide toes. I have to wear flip-flops 365 days out of the year even in rain , sleet , or snow and in 20 / 30 degree temperature. Question? Do you sell the flip flops that you make and do you do custom flip flops. The Flip flops I had I love them they are very very comfortable it's just my foot is wider then the flip flop straps and both of my lil toes hang off the footbed of the flip flop. I have big very very wide feet sz15 6 EEEEEE with very fat wide toe. My foot is 6 1/2 inches wide with all of fat wide toes equally straight across making it for a very wide foot to fit through the flip flop straps. If my toes was at a 45 degree angle I think my foot will fit through the flip flop straps a lot easier and both of my little toes would stay the footbed. I am looking for a wide flip flop for my foot but it's very very hard to find. This was a very good video thank you so much for sharing.
