yusong: "idk man i've been feeling a little burned out i might take a break. also everything is on fire" also yusong: "ok anyway i took a couple of day long breaks due to fire, here's two videos in one day" jokes aside i know you've been working on this one for a while! thanks for putting this out there for us!
The NY Mahjong club is held in such a nice area haha. If anyone is watching, It’s not just NY! I hope everyone takes the time to know about ones near them. I recently tried playing irl mahjong in my city and it was super fun and beginner friendly
Club member right here. Riichi Nomi is pretty great! Lots of new faces every week just happy to play some jong, often for the very first time! Highly recommended if you’re in the area. Great video!
This is awesome! Showing the walk from the station exit to the venue is goat behavior. Would love to see something like this, wish I lived closer to New York, but I'll try to remember this in case I ever visit. I live near a *technically* big city, but it's not super nice, and doesn't have much good to do in it. I tried going to a MTG weekly downtown with a friend, and they said they're mostly a smokeshop now, but we could play magic on the table in the basement if we wanted. I was like, "WHY DO YOU STILL HAVE THE TOURNEY LISTED ON YOUR FB!? DX"....anyways, point is, I doubt there's a good riichi venue I could hit up in my city. :(
ive been meaning to visit riichi nomi for a while, but my anxiety always stops me ;-; thank you for the video yusong, i feel better abt giving it a try :)
Also, just realized I'm gonna need yu song to win this new york tourney league and make an incredible Wolfe Glick style, "How I won the NYC Riichi Championships" documentary.
Me watching this in Brazil: ''Hmm...maybe I should go to NY'' Jokes aside, the community does look very lovely...even playing mahjong casually sounds great, specially without the looming threat of losing 220 points on your rank meter after getting 4th place
LAPOM is in the greater Los Angeles area, and they also do meetups! I went to one a while back and the venue is great. The only thing is that I think english speaking players are definitely in the minority there, but this could've definitely changed in recent times! I would definitely check/ask in their discord if you're interested ^^
I'm part of a local SoCal Mahjong Club called Midori Mahjong that does weekly meetups in LA County and Orange County that's completely free and welcoming to players of all levels.
Wish there was a similar club in my area! How do players actually keep track of score in IRL mahjong? Scoring in mahjong seems insanely complex, I can't imagine playing it without an app and just grinding the game to a stop after every hand to calculate how many fu you have =P.
When I went, it seemed like the vast majority of the players knew how to score! Overall I'm not great with smaller hands, but everyone was totally willing to help! ^^
@@Outshinedsg Most hands are either 30 or 40 fu, and you can often tell at a glance without explicitly counting. Learn the table for 30 and 40, and you're mostly there. Open hands are usually 30, but double check if it looks like your triplets might be big enough. Pinfu tsumo is the only way to get 20 fu, shortcut is that this is the same as 40 fu after subtracting 1 han. Pinfu ron is always 30 fu. Any other closed hand, tsumo is usually 30 fu, ron is usually 40 fu. And then anything else, just call out "2 han 50 tsumo?" and someone in the room will know. There's always some nerd the rest of us are relying on.
"That's right- I touched grass!!" LOL
Thank you & Bethany for joining & playing with us! Hope to do so again soon!^^

51st Street on the 6 is connected to Lex/53 E/M so that's my best suggestion for reaching via the 6. Thanks for featuring our club on your channel

If you ever come down to Atlanta, feel free to reach out to the Atlanta Riichi Club :)
If you are in the Vancouver area, stop by the UBC Mahjong Club, good community of Riichi and HK and some Chinese variant players.
Also, just realized I'm gonna need yu song to win this new york tourney league and make an incredible Wolfe Glick style, "How I won the NYC Riichi Championships" documentary.
That's so cool, I am from France and I know if there is a riichi mahjong club nearby but Im gonna look for it now !
